View Full Version : Zone Problem.

Hey guys,

I've a problem, where when I zone, i regularly get kicked to character select. This doesn't happen every time I zone, say 1 in 3. Has no pattern in terms of zone or time etc.

I'm running Vista 64bit. Quad core 2.4, 4Gb RAM, 8800GTX.

No Error comes up, i just get kicked to character select, and have to wait for for character to go in game, before loading back, its very frustrating.

I've tryed running in as admin, UAC is off, running compatible to winxp sp2.

I'm Pinging ok too, no packet loss.

Any ideas guys? Is this a Vista problem or other?

Few more things i thought to mention:

I know when i'm about to get kicked, was when i say click on a zone door, nothing happens, i lose chats etc and a few seconds later i load to character select, no zone loading screen before i get kicked. Which why i'm guessing no connection problem? Though as we speak, i'm setting up router, but my laptop runs fine on same network.

Have you set up your firewall/router?

[EQ2] Firewall and Proxy Information for EverQuest II

Firewall? Sometimes a disbaled one can still try to protect you a bit....

Well i recently reinstalled my pc, not running an anti virus yet, and disabled windows firewall.

I only get the problem zoning, not loading or patching, just zoning.

Not sure, the TSR might be able to help you more... I would definietly set up that firewall to allow the game through though rather then just disabling it. That could cause enough slow down to boot you to character select I would think....

More info that you can post for the TSR's when they get in would be a tracert/pathping....

Updated - [EQ2/TECH] EverQuest II Connectivity Troubleshooting Guide

Thanks for the help,

All my tracert to splitpaw.everquest2.com come back less that 100ms. Seems no porblem with connections. In game ping meter never shows packet loss.

Few more things to add:

I'm using powerline network in my house, but i ping my router at about 5ms, so no delay there and the laptop doesnt get connection problems through it. I find it very hard to think my problem is network related.

Only other thing to note is that my in game ping is around 130ms most of the time, but i ping server at about 40ms in dos prompt, guessing thats down to fps lag etc?

Your basic ping information sounds like it should be ok, but you may want to post your test results in the thread so we can check them over.

I haven't used one of the powerline networks myself, though I'm aware of them. We haven't receive any reports that they have this sort of trouble, but they aren't very common either. If possible, you might want to try bypassing that network to plug your computer directly into the modem. Try that temporarily just to see whether or not the problem persists. We can then eliminate that network as a possible cause.

Well i've bypassed the powerlines with normal long cable through the house! And it has the same problems.

What info do you need to know?

Has anyone got any ideas? I'm on the edge of quitting if i cant get this problem sorted.

If anyone cares.

I've installed windows 7, (did upgrade, not clean install) and it runs great, but i still get my zoning problems. Does anyone know where i stand?

I run EQ2 before, with near the same pc to this, (I upgraded from dual core to quad, new mobo and more ram(4gb)) since i last played. I also run SP1 since then. I had the same router then, with no ports setup (I have recently done that setup). I used wireless bridging instead of powerlines then, but as I ran a cable through, and had same problem, i think i ruled those out.

Any ideas guys? I'm getting desperate.
