View Full Version : LaunchPad Borks my IP stack -- WinXP Sp2

<p>When I run LaunchPad and it begins to download updates, it will run fine for a while then my IP stack will get corrupted and I'll lose all Internet connectivity. </p><p>Symptoms are:</p><p> Downloads get hung for a long time. Eventually, LaunchPad will give up and cancel the downloads. All network applications (browsers, ping, etc.) fail at this point.</p><p>I've never experienced this problem with any other application. Two things come to mind: something really bizarre is going on in LaunchPad, or I've picked up some malicious third party code that periodically scans for the LaunchPad process and borks my IP stack.</p><p>Workaround: </p><p>When symptoms occur, I open up my Network Connections panel and Disable/Re-Enable my network connection. This pushes the problem off for a while (it will re-occur), but at least I can get farther along in the update process with each iteration.</p>

sounds malicious or EXTREME packet loss. is your anti-virus on real-time scanning of incoming downloads/computer files? this could be a major issue i would check into.

The process took hours or babysitting LaunchPad timeouts when it whacked my IP stack. Scans by Norton and Kaspersky find no malware, and this problem has only ever occured running LaunchPad.exe.</p>

The majority of time that I have seen reports of the TCP/IP stack being corrupted was over a wireless connection with a heavy traffic load. There have been a number of threads here speaking of the patcher stalling but very few, if any, reports of the tcp/ip stack being corrupted and failing. It sounds more like your connection is being overloaded and the communications hardware is failing in some form. It would be helpful if you can document your hardware layout for the internet access.</p>
