I know that this isn't something you see a lot of in the forums, but I thought it would be good to share that the SOE San Diego studio is doing quite a bit of hiring as of late.

We are looking for some quality people to work on EQII and more. Considering that the people who play these games have a wide set of skills as well as a passion for our games, why not look directly to the forum community for potential people who have not just the skills, but also the understanding of our games?

You can view all job openings at SOE by visiting the SOE Careers Page, and can narrow the options down to see the San Diego openings with ease. There are a number of positions open on the site right now, including that of Game Designer for EverQuest II.

These positions are full-time positions, here in the San Diego studio. Not all of them are for EQII, and while they do require professional experience, do not let that limit you in submitting your resume. Professional skills and personality are equally important, and we are always interested in talking with people who love MMO's and want to be on a solid team. The end goal of everyone here at SOE is to deliver the best MMO's possible.
<span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: "Times New Roman"">If you are one of these people, be sure to visit the SOE Careers Page and send in a resume!

When it does we will declare ourselves a soverign nation! To be honest, I had similar concerns about San Diego after living in LA metro for a while.... come to discover that San Diego is amazing.

Hi Grimwell, Could you shed some light on the chance of being hired if you're coming over from Europe? I heard the rules are pretty strict nowadays in the US when it comes to acquiring foreign employees. Greetings

I do know that the rules have changed in light of current politics, but what I 'know' is all hearsay and not very set in the lands of facts. That said, we do have HR people here at SOE who are paid to sort such things out. Send in a resume if you are interested!

I heard the rules are pretty strict nowadays in the US when it comes to acquiring foreign employees. Greetings
Regardless of what foreign country you wish to work in, the experience of applying for a work visa is stressful and expensive at the very least. I'm going on 3 months of red tape and paperwork here in Canada after accepting a job offer (I'm a US citizen). Whether or not your visa is approved, the processing/application fees are non-refundable and range from $2500-$8000 US Dollars depending on various factors such as length of contract, family that will be relocating with you, etc. Don't mean to toss a rain cloud on positive thinking.. just sharing my experiences with other potential immigrants. Edit: Oh.. and don't attempt the process your self! Get an immigration attorney to handle the paperwork. I can't emphasize how important that is. So, tack legal fees on to the tab for working in a foreign country.

That would be so cool working for soe I think. Just being able to work with something you have a passion for "such as mmo's" would be a dream. Too bad im not to savey with making games...just playing them =/

Maybe I'll send it in again ... the resume. But when they see the foot long beard I've grown after years of playing MMOs, the HR types seem to look somewhere else. And, I'm not cutting the beard just to deal with California weather.

Hopefully they hire a marketing department. You can't find this game or any mention of it in any stores in Michigan. Everything is WoW. At least throw up an ad on Myspace or something so people know this game exists..lol.

I've had some serious thoughts this past year about wanting to work in the game industry, specifically SOE. But I have a question. How does one GET the professional experience needed for practically every job on the gaming industry market? I live outside of Chicago, and there's very little game development around these parts. So it's not something that I can ask local and get an answer too.

At least not at a high level. That's why people specialize into game design, character design, environmental design, coding and sound. And for those there are plenty of educational institutions.

I think you guys need a recruitment office and/or a studio in Sweden.. That being said I would love to apply in 5 weeks when I graduate, only problem is I can't even afford to eat at the moment, let alone fly over to the US for an interview.
