I know that this isn't something you see a lot of in the forums, but I thought it would be good to share that the SOE San Diego studio is doing quite a bit of hiring as of late.

We are looking for some quality people to work on EQII and more. Considering that the people who play these games have a wide set of skills as well as a passion for our games, why not look directly to the forum community for potential people who have not just the skills, but also the understanding of our games?

You can view all job openings at SOE by visiting the SOE Careers Page, and can narrow the options down to see the San Diego openings with ease. There are a number of positions open on the site right now, including that of Game Designer for EverQuest II.

These positions are full-time positions, here in the San Diego studio. Not all of them are for EQII, and while they do require professional experience, do not let that limit you in submitting your resume. Professional skills and personality are equally important, and we are always interested in talking with people who love MMO's and want to be on a solid team. The end goal of everyone here at SOE is to deliver the best MMO's possible.

If you are one of these people, be sure to visit the SOE Careers Page and send in a resume!

Can we work from home?

I'm going to be at loose ends here soon, as I am closing down my current business, and Y'all use enough of my /feedbacks that I should be getting paid for them.

No way in "lavastorm" would I ever move to California.   bleh.

Smog, Fire, Floods, Famine, Earthquakes, squirrels nibbling on power lines, the cost of a 2 bedroom could feed a family of 30 in any other state  ..

When it does we will declare ourselves a soverign nation! To be honest, I had similar concerns about San Diego after living in LA metro for a while.... come to discover  that San Diego is amazing.

What's the policy on owning your own M82A1 .50 rifle and flame thrower? SMILEY

My only problem is if I ever go anywhere it will be tricky relocating and finding myself an apartment at a descent rate.  I could see myself as an Entry Level Game Developer doing part time CSR/GM work, but it wouldn't be easy.

As for being an EQ2 Developer I would say the raiders should fear for their souls.  I would reap every one of their contested mobs. SMILEYSMILEY *j/k*

Hey Grimwell what's up with the GDC Jobs and DC Universe Jobs thing? Don't see any requirements on them nor what I would do.

Except for New York City.  A studio apartment here costs more than a luxury 2-bed in San Diego. Sign me up for California, baby. SMILEY

Hi Grimwell, Could you shed some light on the chance of being hired if you're coming over from Europe? I heard the rules are pretty strict nowadays in the US when it comes to acquiring foreign employees. Greetings

I'm not involved in the HR/Hiring process so I'm not exactly sure what hoops get jumped through for our friends in Europe (or any other country). I do know that the rules have changed in light of current politics, but what I 'know' is all hearsay and not  very set in the lands of facts. That said, we do have HR people here at SOE who are paid to sort such things out. Send in a resume if you are interested!

Regardless of what foreign country you wish to work in, the experience of applying for a work visa is stressful and expensive at the very least. I'm going on 3 months of red tape and paperwork here in Canada after accepting a job offer (I'm a US citizen). Whether or not your visa is approved, the processing/application fees are non-refundable and range from $2500-$8000 US Dollars depending on various factors such as length of contract, family that will be relocating with you, etc. Don't mean to toss a rain cloud on positive thinking.. just sharing my experiences with other potential immigrants.SMILEY Edit: Oh.. and don't attempt the process your self! Get an immigration attorney to handle the paperwork. I can't emphasize how important that is. So, tack legal fees on to the tab for working in a foreign country.

Ah yes, I applied to that position just a couple days after it was posted, I just got my diploma in game design and have been updating my resume periodically, but I guess it's not enough! *weep*

Well maybe you guys will get desperate enough to take another look at it! SMILEY

Maybe I'll send it in again ... the resume. But when they see the foot long beard I've grown after years of playing MMOs, the HR types seem to look somewhere else. And, I'm not cutting the beard just to deal with California weather.

Hopefully they hire a marketing department. You can't find this game or any mention of it in any stores in Michigan. Everything is WoW. At least throw up an ad on Myspace or something so people know this game exists..lol.

I've had some serious thoughts this past year about wanting to work in the game industry, specifically SOE. But I have a question. How does one GET the professional experience needed for practically every job on the gaming industry market? I live outside of Chicago, and there's very little game development around these parts. So it's not something that I can ask local and get an answer too. SMILEY

There are more companies in the Chicago area than you think. Back in my days as a computer rental technician (in Chicagoland, the NW suburbs specifically), one of our clients was the company that made the "You don't know Jack!" games. Down in the loop.

You can't get professional experience in every field. At least not at a high level. That's why people specialize into game design, character design, environmental design, coding and sound. And for those there are plenty of educational institutions.

I think you guys need a recruitment office and/or a studio in Sweden.. That being said I would love to apply in 5 weeks when I graduate, only problem is I can't even afford to eat at the moment, let alone fly over to the US for an interview. SMILEY

We have two of the most widely known game developers in Chicago as well. Midway and EA both have offices in the city. EA always seems to be hiring and last I heard, Midway was looking for people as well. Visit their corporate sites and look for job postings as they may not utilize Gamasutra. I've been in Chicago for almost 27 years... my body can't handle these 30 degree temperature swings in the late winter months anymore SMILEY *dreams of San Diego and hopes his application/resume impresses someone over there*

Curious though Grimwell I saw the EQII position got taken down did you guys find someone?

Hah!  You Don't Know Jack! was the very first external beta program I was ever a part of.  I've been hooked ever since.

With all those ideas running around heheh =).  Also being a huge fan of the game ,  I would have to say sign me up too =).
