<div></div>SWG (Star Wars Galaxies) had it going on with the social scene. Sony knows that when people make friends online, they are far more likely to continue their subscription. I think EQ2 could not only keep many more players, but also attract many new players by upgrading the social interaction end of EQ2. We need those guild houses and hopefully, personal housing that we can place and decorate ourselves. We need more dancing styles. We need the ability to "party" with our friends. Apartments are 'ok'. But it doesn't quite scratch the itch. Enhanced fishing would be a plus for fishing trips. We need more decorative clothing that can be made cheaply and abundantly. No stats necessary. Girls especially take great pride in their appearance and leather and chains just doesn't get it for everyone. If we could create dinner table items...food that you can see...that would be cool. How about a music player incorporated into the game. We can find an online music station and have it playing in our homes. When people walk in (and the option is on) they will hear what music we have chosen for our house. In other words, there are a million different cell phone covers out there for individuality so why not make EQ more customizable to the individual.  Self expression sells. Myspace gains subscribers daily from that alone. People want to be able to express their individuality. <div></div>

Let me give a quick summary for anyone who doesn't wanna read that post above: "I, Groovyjive, feel that EQ2 could use a bit more flash."Just about anything COULD be a bit more flashy, but the problem is balancing what's just flashy and "nice" to have versus what's needed. There's a certain point where you're not actually really playing the game anymore and should probably just move on (like when you just stand there idling all day chatting). <span>:smileyhappy:</span>P.S. This isn't really feedback on stuff on test.<div></div>

For some players, that stuff is exactly what's needed. Not everyone needs more raid content, or more spell tweaks, or more super items every update. This is, after all, a role-playing game, but there's lots of little things missing, like, perhaps CHAIRS WE CAN SIT IN. I'd love to see one LU devoted to nothing but fluff, or at least spread out over two or three to keep the people with "toons" happy. On my list of things needed, sittable chairs are near the top, as is more clothing options, and many of the people on my server (Antonia Bayle) would agree about that. We already lost almost all the newbie quests, silencing much of the cities, so let's get something to make this feel like an actual world again, and not just a grind.<div></div>

Oh, I forgot to mention, the title is a bit assuming that other people want what you're posting <span>:smileytongue:</span> I don't doubt it, but it's probably not the best way to go about it.<blockquote><hr>Lera wrote:*snip*We already lost almost all the newbie quests, silencing much of the cities, so let's get something to make this feel like an actual world again, <font color="#ff9900">and not just a grind</font>.<div></div><hr></blockquote>Well, ya know, most of those newbie quests <i>were</i> just mindless grinds; run to NPC1, come back. Go click a bookshelf halfway across town, come back. Go kill x of y. They didn't really add anything <span>:smileyindifferent:</span><div></div>

They didn't really add anything <span>:smileyindifferent:</span><div></div><hr></blockquote>That's not grinding - grinding is doing the same exact thing over and over for the purpose of gaining levels quickly. Newly-arrived adventurers aren't going to be asked to go save the world right away. Instead, they're going to be running errands for whoever needs help, especially if they're good-aligned, or working for fairly easy tasks for the city militia. And they added plenty - the alchemist who wanted his batwing crunchies, the vain guy in Nettleville who needed toxic bog slugs, the merchant who trusted you enough to let you take the day's receipts to the bank - that's all part of a lively, busy city. I also loved the quest in Beggar's Court where they asked you to steal and kill in order to get into their gang - and then when you did it, they're surprised and now scared of you. Those quests are also a good way for newbies to learn their way around the cities, and to gain some items and armour without having to rely solely on fighting. If you find such tasks boring, then skip them, but I thought they added a lot of flavour to the game.</div>

Grinding doesn't always mean the sole purpose is levelling... it can really apply to doing the same thing over and over to get to some goal... and considering the money SUCKS for the quests anyway, the whole point really <i>was</i> the xp. However, seeing as the term doesn't technically have a definition, to each his own <span>:smileyhappy:</span><div></div>

Gnolls can be tough at that level, but they're not a Varsoon or an Everling or Lucan, and with the endless supply of gnolls out in Antonica, killing a few in that quest won't make a huge dent in the gnoll population, although you did stop one scheme. Quests like this are great, but it's still only one quest line. The cities are pretty empty now, and that's a huge loss to the living feeling of Qeynos and Freeport. Sure, batwing crunchies aren't the most exciting quest, but if I still remember it and think it's funny after first doing it over a year ago, it must have added something to the game.</div>

I think that Anarchy Online did a nice job with clothing and with emote interactions.  They actually have dances that don't look like you are having a seizure or being electrocuted.  And an very nice selection of clothing options.  My favorite is this GM who wears a clown suit and walks around with a meat cleaver - really creepy looking.

I like the idea of having a bunch of different dance moves for downtimes during raids.  In that guild wars game they have some hilarious dance moves.<div></div>

<DIV>as for the music suggestion, maybe allowing us to use the music boxes we got during winter events or something instead of the same music in every house. I know I snagged a music box for freeport and qeynos and had wished I logged in every day and got all the other lil things they handed out during that time frame.</DIV>

What I stilll want, after all these years since the demise of X-Files, is Gillian Anderson to be my personal sex slave after she's been completely celebate for at least a year. Hey! Maybe she's already started waiting for me? Sorry, couldn't help the sarcasm because the thread started with making this game more like another game. So devil's advocate it is. I too would like to see nice guild houses and choices of music. The ideas sound simple on paper. The problem is that these ideas assume that people are going to behave. What about things like guild thieves? What about guild built around real life friendships/relationships/families/marriages. Real people have real problems that are none of SOEs business. What happens when those problems carry over into the game, and they do. (it's not that they will, they do and they have) With the demise of all those city quests we learned that the EQ2 dev team is subject to the whims of the<strike> wanna-be</strike> .... err streamlining/code mininmizing department at SoE. Adding these nice to have things would definitely increase the client size which means we'd have to give something up. I say lose the bards in favor of guild housing and decent music. <div></div>

I never found SWG to be much fun for more than a couple weeks, but the range of furniture and emotes is wonderful. They can add those without the two games being clones.<div><blockquote><hr>Ebjelen wrote:The ideas sound simple on paper. The problem is that these ideas assume that people are going to behave. <div></div>Calm down. I said I would like to see those changes. The problem with guild ownership is who gets to move/take what.  Not everyone agrees on what should go where. These arguments typicly put SoE in the middle. Look at the problems we have with guild-banks now. What happens when someone takes hundreds of plat worth of furniture because of an argument with his brother? In other words, there are security issues. If you read my other posts you'll find that I often clamor for depth of content. The problem is that variety of content increases the size of the db and client both. There are people at SoE to make sure that very thing does not happen. Their job is to make sure db and client do not grow in size. My whole post was a flame at them, not at the OP. <div></div><p>Message Edited by Ebjelen on <span class=date_text>08-21-2006</span> <span class=time_text>08:27 PM</span>

Of course things vary from person to person, but in general, women are more likely to be the ones spending hours on their appearance than men. There's a reason why makeup and hair care products and such are marketed to females - and why games like "The Sims" appeal to many female gamers in a way "Doom 3" doesn't. People love to remind others that this is an MMO (see the thread on solo XP), but always seem to forget about the rest of it, the RPG part. This isn't "The Sims Online", where it's all about the social aspect, but there's lots of people, at least on my server (AB) who would love more options. They've created homes which are libraries, taverns, restaurants, and a chapel or two, and while armour's fine for adventuring, regular clothing is more suitable for certain RP events. The various robes give some variety, even though it's still a pain to find a decent wedding dress, especially at low level, and not all of us want formal wear where half of it's missing. When I'm out adventuring, I pick what to wear based on the stats - back in town, it's all about the look. The game should include both - understandably, focusing more on the adventuring, since more people are interested in mindless grinding than in roleplaying, but giving us something, too. And they need an RP-enforced server, but that's another thread and not going to happen.</div>

I really hate spending months avoiding looking at my character at all until I get something approaching a full set of armor. It's downright depressing. So failing an improvement to actual armor, which looks to be far, far away......the answer to the model revamp question in the House of Commons dev chat being essentially "Our guess is as good as yours, but a LONG TIME FROM NOW"......they could at least give me some more meaningless, statless clothes to placate me.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>There's quite a few designs on npc's around the world that are a little different from what we've been given so far. There's nothing wrong with fuzzy bunny slippers either, or a combination of the two. It sounds to me like you want executive outfits, or froofroo dresses, that's just the way the sentance reads to me. Maybe not, but... this is an adventuring game. Leather, chains, platemail, and robes are the norm. While I would love to see more clothing thrown in in the style of L2 (the only good thing about that game was the slutty outfits) I think that blanket statements like the above are foolish. </P> <P>--and yes, I am female. </P><BR> <HR> </BLOCKQUOTE> <P><BR>/agree</P> <P>While I agree that there are people out there who care more about how they look than how good the armor/clothes are (fashion over function), there is never a reason to claim its "girls especially." People love to remind others that this is an MMO (see the thread on solo XP), but always seem to forget about the rest of it, the RPG part. And they need an RP-enforced server, but that's another thread and not going to happen.<BR></DIV><BR> <HR> </BLOCKQUOTE> <P><BR>I do rp, and I never group. <P>Relax BlindPariah, noone is attacking your gender or stereotyping you. The statement is not intended to cover all females. It simply implies that more females than males would enjoy these changes. Males (IN GENERAL) would just like to look cool in the leet high end armor. If it offends you move on to the next topic please.</P> <P>The original post was intended to hopefully draw responses from the players that would encourage the dev team to consider adding content related to social interaction instead of just experience and lewt. I was hoping that players would throw their two cents in about what they want added to the game, not how I worded my sentences and how they COULD be interpreted. Muss stay focus Daniel-son.</P>

<P>I think one of the big draws for EQ2 has been the lack of such clothing that protects the genitals while baring the heart, like the leather and chainmail bikinis that the wood elf and half elf females wore in early EQ1. From an immersion sense, skimpy armor does not instill confidence in one's allies on the battlefields of Norath. Likewise, even the Overlord requires a certain level of civility within the walls of his city. The chaos of Maj'Dul combined with the heat of the desert sun might seem to call for skimpy attire. Common sense on the other hand dictates that people protect their skin from the sun. I mean think about the reverse tan lines from wearing a platemail thong in desert heat. Or, imagine trying to remove that plate thong after being out on the frozen tundra.</P> <P>A variety of clothing sure, but I don't think we need to see the transvestite wear ala AO.</P> <P> </P>

I also know both male and females that couldn't care one iota what their gear looks like, as long as it performs. And I know even more that are somewhere in the middle of that. When you say "Hey ladies, looky, we have pretty dresses" you are dumbing down the female population of MMO's. I know a wide variety of women, from ones that only log in to roleplay (I actually went to her wedding today!) to ones that are officers in raiding guilds. I don't believe a single one of those women would like to be classified as wanna-be Barbies. So ... try to be a little more... well... PC in what you say. Again I repeat "Many people would enjoy these changes" > "Women especially would enjoy these changes." </font></font><div></div>

I also don't think its your place to make fun of someone because they do that. Its just as easy to say that anyone that plays EQ2 to raid must be a 13 year old kid in his mom's basement who hasn't showered in 3 weeks... but just as your stereotype of a roleplayer is completely off base, so is that stereotype of an EQ2 raider. So do us all a favor, and learn a little acceptance.<div></div>

Allow for customization of armor, and address the overall look of combinations of raiding gear. I mean, come on. Stereotyping would be "you're female, and therefore the only reason you play EQ2 is because you want to play dress-up with your character". I don't think anyone would agree with that, since female gamers play for all sorts of reasons - some like to roleplay, others don't; some prefer adventuring, others crafting, and others just socialising; and there's also male gamers who would like more fluff in the game.Every company generalises when it does marketing. Since most gamers are male (although that's changing, and might not be as true with MMOs), that's half the population who isn't paying them money. If they decide they want to attract more female gamers and their $15 a month to EQ2, then they're going to look at features which, in general, appeal to women, and which won't drive away men. As un-PC as it is, men and women aren't all interested in the same things, they're not identical, and there's nothing wrong with adding features which might appeal to one sex or the other. The original statement was not "girls are only interested in dress-up", but "girls (in general) would like these changes more than boys (in general)". There's a difference between generalisation, which are true overall but of course don't apply to every single person in the group, and stereotypes, which assume that a particular person must fit the generalisation.</div>

<P>Thankyou Lera, you do understand what I was saying. Maybe you were the only one. But if Sony could incorporate these ideas, don't you know they could make a killing with the influx of new game subscribers!  And it would add more to the quality of gameplay for existing gamers.  </P> <P>However, this thread has been taken over by witchhunters and I wish I had never brought it up. Was just hoping to improve content for existing players by giving them a voice under the dev team's noses.  </P> <P>And BTW, I would like a pirate shirt, tight leather pants and a bandana in game! I am male. </P>
