An idea to make Assassins "Assassins".

First of all my opinion of an Assassin is someone who is skilled in the art of subterfuge and the killing of "marks" quickly and efficiently without being caught, for money.

So, how does the current EQ2 Assassin live up to this? Well he/she doesnt at all. Assassin in this game is nothing but a tag and different skills to other scout classes. Boring.

Why do we not have class specific quests? I think as an Assassin we should have a main "guild" where we can buy all the tools we need to do our jobs properly (even if its just a fence to buy player made stuff with a few npcs selling the store bought items). Within this guild we should be able to pick up quests to hunt down and kill random "marks" for cash and xp. If anyone had played a Bounty Hunter on SWG's they will know that they had this kind of system incorporated into that game which worked quite well (but was buggy). Obviously the guild would have to be Assassin only to stop others getting in and doing Assassinations.

Something similar to this would really wake up the whole Assassin community and give them something to be proud for being an Assassin for. Scores could even be kept as to how many marks each assassin has performed etc.. (just for kicks and bragging rights).

It could also be taken one step forward with the introduction of the PvP element. In this way players could place "marks" on other players (who are PvP or in a PvP zone). Assassins can then check the guild every now and then and see if any players have "marks" put on them. If they have then the assassins can hunt down that player using their subterfuge and tracking skills (possibly making the mark unavailable when doing a /who to make it more interesting and harder to find) and attempt to perform the "assassination" of the mark. If they succeed then they gain a small amount of xp and some of the money paid to take out this particular target (the rest goes to maintaining the guild).

I used to play a MUD where this was in effect and it was the biggest rush ever and everyone enjoyed it, even the marks as they learnt they had a contract on them and done everything possible to escape and kill off as many assassins as they could before eventually falling. It was all good natured and a total blast.

The problems would be:-

- Not everyone would probably want to participate, so how can u regulate this? (unless its a full pvp server).

- Would take some work from the devs, and I doubt they would even consider the work involved to satisfy one class.

- Players need to have some incentive to place "marks" on people, or it becomes a waste of money. The fun in placing one on a friend works for a while but would soon run out.

- Other classes would get peed off that we had something "special" and they didnt.

How do the rest of you stand on this type of thing? Any other ideas? Any other problems? Or is it all really a waste of time and not needed? Any dev's think this could be something for the future?

Message Edited by Laggerr on 10-21-2005 04:13 AM
