Afternoon All,

First I'd like to say thanks to this community for putting together a wonderful collection of sticky posts that contain a wealth of information about the class and the game in general. Secondly and more importantly to me :smileyvery-happy: I was curious if there was any opinion on the best race for this particular class?

I know that as a Coercer I'm limited to Neutral/Evil races and more so from the various posts that in the end game race means very little but before I truly start heavy grinding and my min/maxer mentality kicks in I would like to see the opinions of some veteran Coercers.

Also if there are any general tips or tricks you feel like tossing out there feel free. I liked the one about Mez -> Befriend and also keeping linked targets rooted down. At any rate thanks for the help.

Even though Gnomes are clearly a superior race, some people will say Erudites are best for coercers. They have a racial vision spell, Auravision, that allows you to determine (by the mobs glow, alone) if they are a mage, priest, fighter, scout. This helps in knowing which mobs to charm, etc. But knowing what mobs to charm comes with the territory, you don't necessarily need Auravision.

Just pick one you like. :smileyhappy:

Iksar. Every other race pales into insignificance.

If you play coercer because you like charming, then an Erudite's Auravision is definitely an advantage, even in the end-game. It makes it much easier to find priests and mages to charm. Priests are highlighted in green and mages in blue when you get close to them. I also suggest turning on Erudite alternate SOGA models. They look much better IMHO than the default ones.

Thanks for all the responses I really appriciate it.

In the end I went with....A Dark Elf. Well actualyl I started as a giant lizard but as I was one in SWG I felt like I needed a bit of a change.

On the point of the Erudite'sAuravision yes I knew about it at the time but to be honest it seems that it would make the class less involving then the other race choices would. I can fully understand how important it could be later on but I figure with some practice and foreknowledge I'll be able to pinpoint my targets just fine.

After all I wouldn't want an excuse to not read up on something.

being also dark elve coercer I wish I would have known this auravision before. Erudites have also the highest int. At least the look of the dark elves is much better imho

Just as an aside you can do as I did and make an erudite for vision and then use the ratogna buff to play as a rat. You also have the option to be a Troll through the illusions. Granted you already made your choice but maybe others wondered.

Go with an Ogre. Everything else is just lower on the food chain.

If it hasn't become apparent already....race really doens't matter that much in EQ2. Starting stats don't really matter by the time you get to the end game. Every stat is useful in some way to coercer (you definately don't want to focus on str, but starting out with enough str to carry 6 bags and not get encumbered is nice).

There are a few racial traits that can give advantages.....I use this site http://home.comcast.net/~eq2gamedata/main.html to compare those.

The auravision is probably the biggest advantage given by your racial selection for a coercer. It really only matters to a coercer though.

As has been said a few times in this thread, the only race that has any advantage over any other race for the coercer class is Erudite. Auravision is a big advantage when you are charming, particularly if you are unfamiliar with the area. I don't know how many classes/races can say they have their racial ability on their hotbar and use it often, but I do: right next to charm.

I'm rather fond of my high elf. But then, she just looks so sweet that no one actually imagines the depths of her eeeeeeeevil. . . . . . .

Dark elves get a 250 point rune/ward and a reactive damage proc (short duration all- under 3 mins).

Fae gets an extra "blink" type spell ... it's reverse blink actually it blinks the mobs but same agro redux AoE effect, also fae speed for pulling...

both have high int (dark elf is 20/25 think to start | fae 25/30 forget exactly) Believe Erudites and Gnomes have highest starter int off top of my head.

Those are the only racial traits I have on hotbars that actually get dusted off occationally for my 2 main races.

Personally i picked dark elf because they look hot, and they are very evil =) (EQ1-EQ2) and fae will eventually be able to betray but if you were like me made your fae expecting to betray when it went live got t7 and masters now don't want to loose them hehe might want to hold off on that =p, unless you level slower.

as for passive dark elves get a power pool % one but think couple races get that, and extra passive int and agi. I used to have agi as my secondary trait since i like to play tank so much (in defense mode / MT mode- my coercers avoidance and defense was matched with the monk by the AGI line AA' abilities) and fae and DEF both good agi... it's not a big thing just a note.

But for the int "cap" or diminishing returns... I have 920-1161ish int on raids(depending if Deathmarch and godking proc) when not in fury group its as low as 760 or so during comabt... with and without that fury int (Vim and group buff) my dps changes up to 300 points.

with drink and int potion (12 int and 51 int ... i think) it goes up 100ish dps.

I don't think the 5 point difference between say a fae and erudite would make or break but I wouldn't train anything n besides int (as a DPS coercer) when in MT coercer role I had STA for hp, cuz well can't be AS reckless should try and live and all =) (hp to live through nasty ae's ect..) Usually MT coercer drops things tend to go haywire... specially if the raid is pushing hard to match dps to agro...
