EQ2X Platnium Players get the expansion for free???? WHF is this croc *bypassing the language filter is not permitted*. I have been playing the original game since launch, never a break, never a pause, $15 a month every month for 7 years, I have bought every expansion. And this is the thanks I get? that the extended service (the newbies) that have not put in their loyalty are getting this for free??? I DEMAND an explanation! I am FURIOUS! I am half tempted to book a ticket to Cali so that Dave can tell me to my face that my loyalty means squat to him. and that the veteran players of this game such as my self can*bypassing the language filter is not permitted* cause that is what his actions are telling me. So I want it clarified so at least we know.

You realize they paid $200 and do not get ownership of the expansion. They just get use.

If you buy AoD and you decide to play for free you can still do AoD stuff - like play a Beastlord.

If the Platinum person cancels their subscription - they don't get to do AoD stuff. Like they can't play a Beastlord.

They didn't get anything for free. They paid $200 for a year of Extended. If they decide later they don't want to pay for Platinum they don't get anything from AoD. If they have a Beastlord - they can't play it.

Even paying full price each month, you didn't pay as much as Platinum did in one lump sum for a year subscription. $180 is still less than $200.

personally I knew that it would be stupid to buy PLATINUM as I realized that AoD was -NOT- included in the deal, only the last CURRENT Expansion.

Apparently SOE caved in because they feared a massive revold of people who bought Platinum just recently and who would rightfully be upset, despite it being their own fault by not closely reading an agreement.

Anyway, they get something for free now, as the Platinum deal was kinda borderline shady in the first place in my opinion. They only get AoD while they're still platinum (or maybe they keep it if a new expansion comes out before that, but I doubt it)

You don't need to be jealous now, we all love you! And the recent changes to EQ2 makes

basically the Platinum deal was 200 a year, adn they get the expansions that come out for free. that was what it was.

so the 'first' expansion to come out while the Platinum model is in effect is AoD. so yes, they are getting AoD free as per that deal. however, the platinum deal is being gotten rid of as of this year, as per SJs comment. any expansions after this they'll have to pay for.

I hardly ever post here as I play on the EQ2X server, but actually live sub for a yr has it better here.

I've already subbed to live for 1yr just a couple days ago.I got the mount and cloak and whatever else.I also get about 11 more month's when the services combine, plus 500 sc a month all for $120.

If you add AOD at $40 and 3 character slots you're at $190 which is still cheaper than Plat. The kicker is if you took advantage of the double SC promo a couple weeks back, you could have the same as that plat for maybe $160

PS and you have AOD forever!

but you got the mount on a Live server now. If you want to continue playing on Freeport server, you should NOT /claim it anywhere else, or you need to buy a char-transfer to move it over I'm not even sure if it would show up on EQ2x's claim window at all -- probably after the merger it will-

maybe somebody else knows more

Well if it makes any difference, AoD is not really an expansion.  It's just a few features.  I'd still like to know where part two of Velious went. Maybe global warming perhaps?

Our content delivery plans are unchanged. We’re still going to be delivering everything we’ve promised previously, and a lot more.As a reminder, here are a few things we’ve committed to you previously (and maybe a bit of detail you haven’t heard before):

  • We’re going to create more content for “Destiny of Velious” through 2013. Skyshrine, the Withered Lands, Siren’s Grotto, Cobalt Scar, the Western Wastes and more are all being worked on currently and will be released periodically during that time. Velious is a huge continent and we’re giving it the justice it deserves. Please note that there is no additional price tag for this content if you own the “Destiny of Velious” expansion; all this content will be open to you when it is released.

I like how every consideration is being given to eq2x players and zero are given to vets, I guess SoE did some math and figured out vets are less likely to leave by being treated badly.

Since the inception of the Freeport EQ2x server the gold access has been $15 a month with no option for a multi month discount, the Plat option is actually cheaper here as you can buy yr+ 3 char slots + AOD for less.

So how exactly is live suffering?Live gets 500 sc a month now for recurring subs no matter how many month's they sub for.I've played both live and X server and I can't see your logic.

Actually, Platinum has gotten 2 other xpacs free.  When EQ2X launched, bronze through gold accts got up to TSO free, Platinum got SF as part of their year subscription.  When DoV launched, bronze-gold were upgraded to SF, and Platinum got DoV.

As there was discussion and hints that Platinum might get AoD at launch as well, SOE decided to go ahead and honor that even though no confirmation had been given.  SJ did explicitly state that this will be the *last* xpac Platinum will get as part of their sub.

But given the other xpacs Platinum got free, it seems a bit odd to protest over AoD, which has no content and mechanics changes that very few people will use in total.

Pardon me if I'm taking an, "I'll belive it when I see it" philosophy here.  That second half of Velious was annouced on the same night as DoV at Fan Faire.  I was in the room.  That seems to be quite a bit ago now.

This.  This is the reason I cancelled.  This is the reason I won't return to the game.   But no one on the F2P side of things gets it.  Live players paid $180 + the price of the expansion (DoV).  What was that, 40 bucks? Yep...that's right, Live players paid $220 while Platinum paid $200.  Don't go  off half-cocked, as you spout facts that are incorrect.   And then Plat F2P'ers whined and cried that the "we can change it anytime, and by the way AoD wasn't actually included when you signed up, you just thought it was" thing happened (meanwhile saying "shame on you" to the Live vets, then saying "you should read the EULA, they can change it at will, so you get nothing") concerning AoD...now they get it for free.   If you, or anyone else, can't see the problem with this, or still wants to argue that LIVE players aren't getting screwed over, then you are either blind or insane.

Avianna, all the live players, and I have actually paid more per year than ANYONE on EQ2X (not counting someone that has a sub on both services....you can only count Live against extended, not combine them).  Oh, and those of us that purchased the CE paid even more, by the way.

And before someone comes along to throw garbage and insults asking "if you left, why you still here?" ... because my time isn't over on the subs for a week or so.  In that time I will continue to come here and defend the way things should be against those that want to silence ANY opposing opinion.   Also, because it is my right to do so.

Not going to get into a flame fest here,I can see where you're coming from but.

Xtended paid a $200 up front so the $180 isn't a fair comparison as live had a 12 month for I believe $144 until this yr,now it's $120.Only difference would be the 3 char slots and since it went to $120 it's cheaper on live including $40 for AOD.

If I'm not mistaken plat loses access to AOD and maybe even DOV when Plat runs out,so in other words they have to keep paying $200 a yr to keep it and I'll own it paying $120 a yr,sounds fair to me.

You showed respect when you quoted me, I will do so for you, as well.  Fair enough?  Although Plat paid upfront and I paid monthly, why is the comparison unfair?   The previous comparisons seemed to be accepted as fair, from what I can tell, but didn't include more ALL the costs.

Now, I guess I should have carried what I said (concerning the costs) through the AoD exansion.  In that case, If a person had paid one year ago for a year (on live), then purchased DoV AND AoD, from your numbers (assuming I am using the right sub price for the year), wouldn't that STILL come to more than the plat sub?  ($144+$40+$40=$220)   As opposed to Plat where it was $200+$0+$0=$200.  (Neither of these figures takes into account that the person could have purchased the CE version of either expansion.  First, I'd have to go ook up what the DoV price was, then we'd have to decide if it were pre-order or not, THEN I'd need to find out if EQ2X even had the option to get the CE.....let's leave that part alone SMILEY )

All I'm asking here is that, though the numbers given COULD have been seen as not appropriate, the numbers in THIS post support the same conclusion.   So, again, I ask where the comparison is unfair?  Better, HOW is it unfair?

(Knowing the nature of forums, this might be better as a side discussion.  If you'd care to, we can take it to PMs.  I am sincere in wondering why my comparison was not fair, or where I may have made a mistake in the calculations.)

Pewtriid

These are the numbers I'm looking at again not to be a flame or such.

Extended buys plat sub on 11/01/10 for $200 and gets access to DOV in Feb/11

Live buys 1 yr sub on 11/01/10 for $144+$30 for 3 slots and +$40 for DOV= $214

A yr later extended buys plat sub for $200 and gets AOD

A yr later live buys 1 yr but already has the 3 slots so it's $120 + $40 for AOD and it's you's forever.THat's -$40 from plat + $14 differance from 1st yr.

You're $26 ahead and you actually own both xpacs and a free mount/cloak and more, and the savings get even greater as you actually own the 3 char slots and don't need a plat sub for them.

Edit to put this in,you're absolutley correct that in the 1st yr Plat is a better deal,I guess i'm looking more long term and as you go live is more and more inexpensive down the road.

Also to compare $180 for live @ month to month you would have to compare to $180 for xtended @ month to month and they got 4 races only, that's a no compare.

First, I'd have to go ook up what the DoV price was, then we'd have to decide if it were pre-order or not, THEN I'd need to find out if EQ2X even had the option to get the CE.....let's leave that part alone )

Actually, really, honestly waiting to read your answer,

Understood about not trying to flame.  I think that we don't really need that disclaimer for THIS portion of the discussion.  Also, it's nice to be able to discuss it and not argue.

For a bit of humor, I was trying to figure out what plat (in game currency, that is) had to do with it   Had to read 3 times to get it to click that it was referencing the plat plan.....At least I didn't post something asking you to clarify that.

The numbers you posted (I'm gonna accept them as factual, as I don't feel like looking it up.  Besides, even if they're wrong, it wouldn't be by enough to matter in this context.  Please don't take this as me saying they are NOT right.  I'm just not going to verify that they are) make sense.  I'm not sure, but I think we have just hit a wall, though.  You are right, year one in your example Live pays more, year two it's Extended.  The problem (as I see it) is that all the arguing on this - and other - threads makes no reference to the TIME FRAME that we have just discussed.  In the posts just above ours, there is no disclaimer of WHEN one was more than the other.  (I include my own in that assessment, by the way.)  I don't think that the majority of the posters will bother with the distinction that you (and I, sorta) have just made.

I *DO* take exception to your last sentence, however.   Oh, nothing really big.  You said that live is more and more inexpensive down the road (compared to platinum).  There are two things that make that statement not quite right to me.  First, it would assume that Live (gold) either gets cheaper as time goes on.  The second, which is more important, is that Platinum will be rolled INTO gold, and will thereafter be identical.  In other words, we can't really say one is more or less than the other in the future, as they won't be seperate products.  Now, were the tow to remain as they are RIGHT NOW, that statement would be more accurate....barring the fact that it would assume Live got cheaper again.  (I sure hope that didn't confuse you, nor sound like I'm picking  a fight.  I worded it the best I can, but fear it wasn't quite right.)

I feel that we have discussed this pretty much as far as we can.  From this point it would probably not really aaccomplish much.  I was right about year one, you are right about year two.  Any argument people may have about the pricing is answered here

I thank you for the polite response, and courteous post, and hope that mine has been the same.  I am still leaving the game, but wish you luck in your future adventures. Have fun, and don't let anyone else make your mind up for you.  Peace!

you wrote:  "Also to compare $180 for live @ month to month you would have to compare to $180 for xtended @ month to month and they got 4 races only, that's a no compare."

My response:   In that instance (if we are still talking about plat level...I'm not sure if you are), didn't they get the same DoV (and now AoD) for free?  If so, then Live would be +$80 over extended on month to month.  Again, since we were talking about plat level, I assume that is what you meant in your edit, and IF they got DoV (and now AoD) free.   Make sense?

good discussion you guys but side railing the bottom line here and that is simply this... I have been playing since eq2 beta. I have not taken a leave from the game in 7 YEARS! that is 7 years of subs at $15 bucks a month for 7 YEARS. Now along comes EQ2X and they decide that THOSE players are more privilaged than I am and should recieve content for free and p**s on me for being loyal since beta of the game. That is my point exactly. Not to be in a debate of which is more expensive cause I guarentee that even if you paid $200yr and bought the char packs your still not even gonna come CLOSE to what I have spent in this game over the last 7 years of subs and buying the collectors edition of every expansion since beta. So my question to the Devs is this: Why should the guys who have only been here for 1 1/2 years be getting stuff for free when I can't get it after 7 years of loyalty? Is that what I am worth to you?

The platinum members were promised access to all future expansions as part of their platinum membership. Since AoD is the only expansion that will be released during the existence of the platinum membership, they get it for free. I don't see what is so difficult to understand about this. SOE is just fulfilling the spirit of the agreement they made with their customers.

I am also a 7-year vet who has been playing since launch. I also happen to be a reasonable human being who understands the nature of business. Why, exactly, do you feel that you deserve to be given a new product for free just because you've been a customer all this time? Has SOE ever given away free expansions just for being a veteran player? Did you ever enter into a contract with SOE that stated that you would have access to future content for free, like the platinum members did?

In other words, why exactly are you suddenly entitled to free stuff? You can buy the new expansion just like all the rest of us--just like we always have for the past 7 years. The platinum members are getting what they are owed by the spirit of the contract they entered into with SOE, and you will be getting exactly what you deserve: the right to play the game you've paid for, and the option to buy more of the game if you feel it is worth your money.

I can't believe that you would twist what is a good-faith decision on the part of SOE toward their platinum members into some sort of affront against yourself. This isn't about you, it isn't about veteran subscribers like me, it isn't about the average cost of a year's subscription; it is about doing the right thing for the platinum members.

You're distorting the truth shamelessly.

First of all, you can't compare a monthly payment with a 1 year prepaid sub anyway.

Monthly payers have more choices , you can go on holiday in July surfing or whatever and choose not to pay in July, etc., Platinum buyers could never do that. Geez

Secondly, you always had the choice on LIVE to get 1 year for $120 prepaid, which beats Platinum by far:

200 - 120 = $80 saved, which means 8000SC or even 16.000SC if you were smart and bought at a double event. So LIVE sub was always the better deal. with that 16.000 SC you could have bought 3 expansions or more, or keep the cash for next years sub which would already make 66.6% of 120$ - more than 6 months playtime.

It's nobodys fault that you did not take a yearly sub on LIVE, so when we compare your monthly $15 to monthly on EQ2x, EQ2x GOLD with having races to unlock was also worse than Live sub. Nobody forced you to buy anything, so stop being jealous, and even falsely so, when other people seem to get something "for free". Throwing a tantrum is what may be expected in Kindergarten, but not from adults.

Somehow you also never mentioned, that your 7 years loyalty already got rewarded with the veteran rewards, super-houses and whatnot, that many players envy for sure, while vet rewards were never even available on EQ2x until the coming merger.

Except the numbers you're looking at are based on a number which is incorrect. When EQ2x went live the year subscription for non-X was $120. It wasn't $144. To my recollection there was never a $144/yr subscription plan or it was long before EQ2X.

$120 + $40 (for an expansion) = $160

For completeness: 3 month, 6 month, and month-to-month for Live. There was no multi-month other than Platinum for X.

$15 x 12 =  $180 + $40 = $220

$39 x 4 = $156 + $40 = $196

$72 x 2 = $144 + $40 = $184

As someone else pointed out, the yearly subscription started and stopped based on calendar days. If you didn't play at any time during that year, that "lost" time didn't get tacked to the end. The full amount had to be paid up front in a lump sum.

Month to month gets no discounts, that is a known thing. In many other places (like nicer apartments) month-to-month payments often even get an additional fee tacked on. If you're paying the minimum amount month to month, then of course it will cost the most in the long term.

Additionally, the multi-month subscriptions on Live got some free items, cloak, appearance armor, and horse (in order: 3 month got the first, 6 got the first and second, and year got all three). To be fair, for your comparison, Platinum on X got 500SC/mo (which is now going to be a perk for any recurring payment on the combined service).

NOTE: I do not play on EQ2X.

Very simply people are missing the point.

Lots of veteran players are simply feeling cheated because of this EQ2X free AoD thing.

It is NOTHING to do with the $200 dollar up front or anything like, it is ALL to do with SOE seeming to value an 18 month old player of a player who has constantly and uncomplaining ( up to this feature pack) paid a monthly sub, paid for all expacs, and probably spent SC as well.

As I wrote in a previous post that mysteriously disapeared -

Why are the (so far) largest cash contributors being wholely overlooked in this, expensive, situation.

AoD is not even an xpac it should have been the real veteran reward 8 years...

If only the game was working as well as marketplace...

I had the exact same thought as the OP when I saw the **great** new anoucment that the eq2x players got the expansion for free.

Part of the reason I am so mad is that I do not want to even buy this expansion in the first place since it is not worth $40 IMO. To hear the people who have not been playing nearly as long will get the over priced expansion for free makes me mad and want to quit the game altogether

Well if it makes any difference, AoD is not really an expansion.  It's just a few features.  I'd still like to know where part two of Velious went. Maybe global warming perhaps?

From the producers Letter -- read it  =-)

What Does this Mean for the Future?

Pardon me if I'm taking an, "I'll belive it when I see it" philosophy here.  That second half of Velious was annouced on the same night as DoV at Fan Faire.  I was in the room.  That seems to be quite a bit ago now.

Aye i think rather a lot of people are taking that view too it seems to me.
