I understand there is "supposed' to be a progression to this game, especially gear related, but one thing I think the devs are really leaving out is a shard/mark/shard trader. I should be able to trade x amount of obsolete shards for a mark, and x amount of obsolete marks, for a primal velium shard. I would say something like this:

5 shards for 1 mark

5-10 marks for 1 primal velium shard

There are a few reasons I really believe a trader for these should be in the game. For one, it gives those of us with all these marks that are useless now a way to get a few shards. Another reasons, there doesn't seem to be a known daily solo primal velium shard mission, and yet another reason. All the gear from past expansions are obsolete and useless now.

I did not play much during the SO expansion, I actually took a year or so off from the game and returned a month or so before SF went live. My character did not have the advantage of having all the shard gear from SO, so I was lacking in the damage and armor department, but, SF did not make the radical changes to mechanics of the game that DOV has. At least SF had a daily mark quest and a few other mark quests that could be solo'd or duo'd  to build up enough marks to be able to get into a group to get gear upgrades. I've done PQ's so much that I'm kind of sick of them, the 5 pieces of gear I've received are next to useless (at least I don't see the benefits of wearing these pieces and losing the benefits of the stats I have) I still have not looted any fabled gear from the PQ's and I'm still building up my faction to buy better than PQ gear from quartermasters. The faction requirements I do not have a problem with, but the fact that some of the new shard armor costs around 300 shards, and the only way I can do them is join a stacked group where I'm just a liability. No group or raid wants a liability, I can do roughly 13k to 25k dps with my current gear ( i know it isn't elite but it was enough to at least make me useful in groups before and some raids.) Now I'm a one hit kill, 2 at the most in anything but PQ's and faction quests. And, like i said, if I don't get in a group where at least half the people are already stacked and don't need to be in the zone, I can't get any further eq wise except for faction bought. Not everyone who plays this game is a hardcore player that raids for 12-20 hours a week. The amount of time it takes to get decent gear is not my complaint, it's the fact that 6 previous expansions have become obsolete almost completely. Players who are veterans can level from 1-90 in a day, max out AA's in a short amount of time. Not everyone plays that way. I'm not asking to be catered to, I'm just asking to be included.

So back to my original question, why is there not a trading system for old shards and marks to new shards? That would at least give people a use for those obsolete items. And please put in a daily solo primal velium shard mission. WIth the amount of shards it takes to buy some of the new gear, it's  a minimal help, but at least will be helpful.

People would go blast through the SF zones get marks easier with the added gear from DoV and people would complain to high heaven.

but i agree it would be nice to trade the marks in for DoV shards.

one thing you can do go to paineel buy yellow adorns and put them on your PQ gear, once you get DoV shards replace them for the Mark Adorns.

Yeah but look at the yellow adornments in paineel, and the yellow adornments in DoV, big difference. I really don't think it would be that big of an issue based on the cost of shard gear in DoV. especially if the transfer rate was 5-10 or maybe even more. It would take awhile to build up decent gear, but would at least give people who are at the top of the list in their raids or don't raid at all a chance. Hell, it would even give them a chance to do some of the regular instances and possibly keep people going back to older zones instead of having X amount of dead and unused zones just wasting space. Besides, I am only speaking of gear that is not top tier raid gear and red adornments. I understand fully why those must be obtained through regular means.

When the mark system came in with SF, TSO shards became useless to most. You could get decent enough gear to get into Mark instances to at least get a foot in some raid groups. People may have had to raid 3 or 4 weeks before they started seeing good results, but it still gave the more casual players a chance, albeit taking more time to obtain, to get the raid gear.

The way it is now, if you're new to a raid group, you're lucky to get a piece of fabled jewelery or such within the first 5 raids with most raid guilds, unless you become a full fledged member of one of those raid guilds and can make it to most of those raids.

With the drop rate of PQ gear that has yellow adornment slots being so rare, I don't see how people would have valid complaints. I've been doing 24 manned pq's since a day or two after launch and I still have not looted one single fabled piece. Yeah I have all crappy legendary ones with high crit mit and stats but lacking in other things my class needs, which with my play style, those items are useless to me. If a player gets in a group and does all the mark quests that day, how many marks can they actually get? 20-25 if they don't do the every 18 hours? And that's not including the mission with 8-12 marks. If 10 marks buys 1 primal velium shard, they're getting roughly 3 primal velium shards a day. A nice bow I'd like to buy from clan ry'gorr is 300 velium shards. Even breezing through 3 or 4 mark zones a day that you can possibly get 3-5 marks from would still take a bit of time to build up enough shards to buy the better gear.

I just personally think it should take time to get much of the better DoV gear, but not be [Removed for Content] near impossible for casual - medium players unless they play the game Hardcore and join the 3-4 times a week 4 hour raids, just to get simliar gear to what they have with the new higher crit mit.

As a couple of other topics have mentioned, this expansion is not solo friendly, and I'll take that statement one step further by saying it's not casual player friendly either. I've finished all the solo quest I can up to this point and am still waiting days to build up faction in DoV just to upgrade to the quartermaster sold stuff.

I am pleased with the content of the expansion and the story lines, etc... but regardless of whether I play an hour a day or 12 hours a day, SOE still gets their money. If I and a multitude of others are feeling left behind because we have gear that is becoming more and more obsolete and mute trash, we will drift away eventually. It really is something to be considered.

Not a fan of the idea in general. In any case, void shards should never be worth anything outside TSO.

This will never happen for fairly obvious reasons.

I would agree with a backwards trading system like wow has, for people that gain an overflow of marks/shards and would perhaps like to easily obtain the woe gear and such for alts or appearance, would also encourage people to lvl alts.

that's part of my point. Just something to make it so the rest of the game isn't so obsolete. Yeah, you can put SF Yellow adornments on your stuff until you get enough shards to upgrade to better ones, but that's mainly for people who can't get into the new instances or have a stock pile of marks.

to Onorem - Whether you care for the idea or not, doesn't matter. If it's something that doesn't affect you, then don't use it. And I totally disagree with you about shards from TSO. This is not 7 seperate games, it's one game with the progression of 7 different games. (that's a slight exaggeration.) But still, the smoothness of something that is supposed to be a progression, is not currently present in the game as a whole. Once you hit a certain level, there are very few items that are useful before DoV. One or two here or there yes, but all those items some people worked so hard to get or all that currency that has been built up over the last few expansions, has almost become useless.

To Crismorn - There is no obvious reason. The only reason is because the EQ II dev simply did not put a system like this in the game. For every "obvious" reason you think you can come up with, there will others who competely disagree with you, therefore making your "Obvious" reasons not so obvious.

I'd rather see a trading down system with no trade-up.

Void shards were gained by exploit for the entire TSO expansion. Nobody that has stock of them in the bank should be able to gain current items from them. I don't care for the idea...and that matters just as much as your wanting it to happen. If you don't want player feedback on your idea, send it as /feedback instead of posting it to the forums.
