After a long break from EQ2, I decided to start on a fresh and create a new character and delete my old one. Many things have changed and I'm still a little confused about some game mechanics.

I've started an ogre bruiser in Hate's Envy. I got to Neriak eventually and was hoping to get a spell like "call of the overlord" to be able to teleport there every 60 minutes. Did I miss a quest for this somewhere? Can I go to Freeport and get the spell there, and then change its binding to Neriak? If yes, how?

I think it should be in your book already, that's where my Arasai found hers at least.  The ability to reset the bind point comes automatically now too.

Deedie doodie! I found mine after reading this thread. Seems that someone forgot to code the notice in but did put in the actual "spell" itself. Only problem I have with it is that Neriak is a LONG way from anywhere. One runs for quite a bit just to get back to, say, Commonlands; not to mention getting back to Nektulos from there. SMILEY

This was indeed posted in the GU35 patch notes, under the "Quests" header:

  • The 'Tie That Binds' quests have been removed from the game. All new players will receive the 'Set Recall Point' ability at the same time that they receive their 'Call of ...' ability. Players currently on these quests will find them auto-completed. Existing characters who have not started these quests will be granted the 'Set Recall Point' ability instantly.

You can buy ports out to the Nektulos and Thundering Steppes within Neriak like the harbormaster in Qeynos and Freeport.  If I'm not mistaken, there is also a port out to the Commonlands.
