Additionally, all winning entries that are published will be put into the Hall of Fame, so make sure to keep them published!
Original Contest:

Fall is here and with it comes the creepy, crawly Nights of the Dead holiday. To celebrate, we're having a spooky Haunted Homes forum challenge!

The Challenge: Create a spooky house! You must use your own home and your own items for this challenge.

The Haunted Homes Forum Decorating Challenge is a free-for-all decoration challenge. The challenge will take place on all servers.

Duration: Submissions for this forum challenge will be open from Friday, October 14, 2011 until Monday, October 24, 2011 at 5:00 PM PDT.

Instructions:

  • Decorate your home!
  • If you choose to take screenshots (and we highly encourage it) of your masterpiece, make sure that they are web-ready (.jpgs, .gifs, or .pngs) and no larger than 800x600 pixels. Please note that if you choose not to, you will need to make sure that your house is set to Public level access so that we can see inside of it.
  • Respond to this thread with the following information:
    • Character Name
    • Character Server
    • Address and City of House
    • Screenshots of your Spooky House (if applicable)
  • We would also really appreciate it if you published your home using the House Rating System!

Rules:

  • Before submitting an entry, please review the Official Forum Challenge Rules and the additional notes below:
    • Participation is limited by person not by character or account. As such, you cannot participate with two different accounts or characters.
    • Screenshots of your homes are not required but you are welcome to post them in this thread.
    • All submissions need to keep with the Nights of the Dead theme in order to qualify.
    • Please note: We are not looking for houses with the most expensive or rare items. We are looking for creativity and ingenuity.

Rewards: After reviewing all the submissions, winners will be selected and will receive the following reward:

  • Winners will receive a unique in-game house item for their character: a gold and black marble bowl filled with coins. The coins sparkle and glow, and there's a never-ending shower of coins into the bowl from above.
  • There will be a total of six (6) winners in three (3) categories: Most Creative, Spookiest, and Most Humorous.

Feedback: Feel free to offer your feedback on the submissions of others. We enjoy reading the comments on entries for these challenges just as much as the entries! Just remember to be constructive.

Update: Thank you so much to everyone who submitted entries! We will be judging over the next couple of days and winners will be announced live on Thursday's Nights of the Dead webcast! The webcast will be on Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 4:00 PM PST. We will also notify players via forum PM. Winners will receive their prize later that day. After the winners have been announced live, we will update the forums with the winning entries. Good luck everyone! http://www.everquest2.com/news/read/current/5002

Can you please clarify for us up front if break-out homes will be included in this challenge? Or will it need to be within the normal capacities of any standard home? Thanks!

Hi Isulith,

Would you be able to please clarify how judging will be done this year?

Last year's judging procedure caused a lot of bad feeling amongst entrants, and myself, and I'm sure many others, would like to know if there will be any changes this year before spending time preparing an entry.

Thank you.

Its published under large homes, Vampire Dinner Party

updating mine with pictures and info

The story starts out with you recieving a mysterious invitation:

You decide to go ahead and take them up on an offer, swanky party, you the guest of honor and hey, free food.

As you enter you see a very nice house the foyer is beautiful, wish I had this kind of money you think.

You enter unto the left as the invitation told you and come upon a ballroom decorated for halloween, yet no one is here

Finding it odd you decide to explore the rest of the house, maybe the guests and hosts are in another room

You first come upon a sitting room, maybe the portraits are paintings of the hosts

Still not finding them you decide to travel upstairs as going downstairs is foggy and looks unused

You come upon a library filled with thousands of volumes, it looks like your hosts love to read

Still not finding them and nowhere left to search you decide to head downstairs

What is this you've come upon, it looks like a crypt, thats a bit odd and creepy

with only one other doorway you hesitantly decide to check and see if they are here

ut-oh your in trouble

Notes about the house: unfortunately there are no vampire plushies i could find in game

I decided to set my house off of a scene in the twilight series (with a little twist) where Bella and Edward had just visited the voltouri and a group of humans were being led through the castle on a "tour", unsuspecting of the fact they were dinner.

I envisioned my vampires as very refined and elegant, on the surface of the house you would just see a very rich couples estate, but if you look deeper you see clues to more sinister dealings.

So welcome to the dinner party, feel free to look around, grab a bite to eat, we prefer you to eat something sweet, it makes the blood sweet and thank you for delivering.

Character Name: Calladria

Server: Butcherblock

Address: Private Opera House

Published: Calladria's Haunted Opera House (Medium Homes)

The spirits of Old Norrath have begun to take up residence in my Opera House that I was decorating for Nights of the Dead! They're mostly harmless, though. Enjoy the candy, drinks and illusion items!

ETA: Pictures & backstory.

I started life as a Teir'dal back long ago. I can remember the world as it used to be. Once I was turned, I felt the need to connect to my past, remembering my old self. Possibly my attachment to relics and my own nostalgia brought this upon the Opera House I recently decided to buy...

Here is the Graveyard, located in the back room. A treant from South Karana watches over some Scarecrows from Rivervale & Unrest. A frozen skeleton from Everfrost frequently rests amongst the headstones. Fippy Darkpaw, no stranger to death, seems to of taken a liking to this part of the Opera House.

Upon putting some Iksar and Di'Zok skulls in this corner of the Opera House, a strong presence from Kunark of Old started to appear. Knowing full well the power of Sathir, I shall leave it alone.

The spirit of an Orc from Old Crushbone has set up a torture chamber/food preparation area in the back room, next to the Graveyard. I decline the food politely while calling out 'Hail, Emperor Crush!'

There are several other strange occurances throughout the theater, not to mention the disappearing patrons who have left various items, and a few that...well, I believe the Orc got to them.

Each window seems to look upon days past. Anything from Spectres from the Oasis to the bats that new Adventurers many hundreds of years ago used to hone their skills freely move about the area.

I like to read the books I've kept and collected from the 'Old Days', and watch as some friends and enemies from long ago meander the halls. It brings a smile to my face that only slightly shows my fangs.

It seems Quo is a popular guest in the torture chambers.  Great minds think alike, Cyliena.

Haha, seems the only appropriate place to torture him, ya know? That's similar to the setup I did for the "Who's killed Qho?!" thread, it just moved houses. Earlier when I was swapping the axe on that Qho my pet Qho was looking on.

Sure, I'd be happy to, Aslita! I wasn't here last year so I'm not sure how it was run.

The judging will be done by a few of our community managers and we will be judging on the following: creativeness, theme, uniqueness, and the overall aesthetics. This will be our opinions on these. As listed in the rules, there will be three different categories: Most Creative, Spookiest, and Most Humorous.

If you have further questions, please ask. SMILEY

    Good luck!
