I know that LON goes live today...but unfortunately I am stuck at work and unable to test out the drop rate of LON boosters.  Dose anyone know yet what mobs will drop the boosters?  Will it be raid mobs?  Named mobs?  Solo con mobs?

To prevent camping, any and every mob will be able to drop boosters.  They exist on a separate loot table that won't affect any other item drops, and will drop as chest loot from green-or-higher mobs.  The only real question is how rare they'll turn out to be.

They should drop from any old mob. What I wonder is, will they drop immediately after launch, or will the servers have to be restarted before they drop - in the form of a hotfix to put them to drop.Anyone happen to know, before I go slaughtering?

I hope this is true...there really isn't any way to know for sure though whether or not these things will drop instead of loot or along side with it.  They tell us one thing and I sure hope it is true and not another reason to dislike LoN.

It may be: Pack, or Loot and Pack, or Loot.

At least, that's the way it's been phrased. I don't know if first one is possible, but next two possiblities should be viable.

This is from the LoN FAQ:

What are the guidelines for trading unneeded loot cards, cards and packs?

  • You can get packs and promo cards from global drops in both EverQuest and EverQuest II
  • You can trade any individual Legend of Norrath card or pack in the LON client.
  • You can trade any UNREDEEMED Loot card in the LON client.
  • You can trade any UNREDEEMED Legends of Norrath item (pack/promo) that you get as a drop on the broker equivalent in EQII/EQ.
  • You CANNOT trade any redeemed or /claimed loot item

Doesn't mention anything about drop rates.  SOE is potentially losing $3 every time a booster drops as loot.  So I imagine they will make it a rare drop.

Well with that said...I guess were just going to have to wait untill people start seeing these drop to see how rare they will be.

The thing that bothers me about this, is that Smed said that players will not have to pay a dime for the game...well thats true, however, if you want to have a half way decent deck, your going to need cards from boosters.  And again, he said they wont cost a dime, they will drop in game.  Well that is fair and sounds good...but if these things are droping how im expecting them too..."one booster per billion mobs killed"...well, you get the idea.

Im just really curious about the drop rate...

I would be curious if the dropped "boosters" are going to be a pack of 15, or actually just a one card "booster".

And the last I heard from the beta, we have to buy something from the card store to unlock the ability to trade (and other features of the card game).People were still speculating if perhaps claiming a looted pack could count as a 'purchase', I guess we will have to see SMILEY

They're only losing $3 when someone who would have bought a pack, chooses not to because that person got one from a mob drop.  I bet the people who are spending money are mainly the hardcore tcg crowd, rather than the casual player who is playing eq2 and for whom lon is just a nice bonus.I would bet money they are looking at the casual players who get mob drops as providing a network effect for the hardercore tcg crowd, making their own purchases more valuable since there will be far more people to play with.EDIT: added a wikipedia link

Yup, that's dead on. I was just on the LoN boards about it because I couldn't start a guild and it said I had to register (but not how I go about doing that). You "register" by buying at least 1 booster from their store. "Registering" allows you to access trading, create guilds, and play in their tourneys and stuff.$3.99 US isn't a whole lot, but man was a sneaky trick! lol

Well, it was emphasized many times at Fan Faire and on forums by many Official-Type-Persons.

You could ask the guy who has 2 boosters on Naggy for 24p each how rare they are, LOL..I mean honestly, I figured they might be a bit of gold but 24p???  How much could I buy farmed plat for to pay for those 2 packs vs just spending the $2.99 in the store for them?  If they rare enough to dictate 24p, over time (i understand this guy is just trying to be advantageous), then SOE did well and will make more in retail pack purchases from their store than plat sellers on the plat it takes to buy them ingame.24p, lol...

just wait a fwe days till when they've dropped to people all around. Prices will fall drastically. the first fwe items are always stupidly overpriced when something new is brought ingame.

I think the broker costs will average out to 5 - 10 plat a booster pack unless they are *extremely* rare drops.  That's just what I figure the average player will be willing to spend.  A big question is how many people will be willing to sell them at all if they are into the card game vs how many people just think of the booster packs as cash drops?  Personally, I would be willing to sell the booster packs initially at an inflated price and then go into buyer/claim mode when they get cheaper.  If I can sell one booster pack for 20plat this week and turn around and buy 3 booster packs for the same amount in a couple weeks I can live with that =p

There's a problem with pricing them high though.Unless I'm mistaken, once you open a pack the cards can only be traded for other cards, thus making them worthless for anyone not interested in the game. Therefore, you can't price the packs high, because you don't know how rare the cards inside are. (once there's a decent flow of packs) I'm thinking that most people won't be willing to pay too much for a gamble, when a little farming gets it for free. If your whole thing is going for profit, the only way to figure out the exact worth of the pack is to open it, and then you can't sell it.

24p wow thats a great deal, just last week we had a flame war on Butcherblock for selling the stein card for 70p ... by the way confirmed he sold one at that price not sure if he ever got the other sold.

Just fyi .. I blame not the player for this he is just greedy and getting what he can when he can...

I BLAME THE DEVS for allowing these to be traded during the beta to peeps that weren't in the game...

I was in a Sculpter group in SS and one dropped from a wooden chest from a normal mob.  I didn't win, but I checked the broker and no booster packs were found.  However, someone was selling a starter deck for 12 gold!  I bought it, even though I already have the mage and fighter decks.

Even though there's no proof to back this up, people on Kithicor are saying its a 300:1 ratio.

That's an extremely lucky buy!  Probably some poor noob who didn't know what he had selling it =p

Arrgh, 26 minutes till I can leave work, can't wait to get home SMILEY<img src=" /> Darn and blast, why did I put off tidying the house till today, I'm currently calculating the bare minimum of cleaning I have to do (before my girlfriend gets home in 24 hours), to maximise my LoN farming potential.
