RIP Norrathtrade. Didn't even think of that, one of the biggest community tools in game.

I agree. Both SOE and ProSiebens should be very worried at the likely impact of this on future sales, with the Planetside 2 fans currently unhappy about it too.

Viral marketing is everything in this business, and when in a few months or even a year or two's time SOE/ProSiebens are marketing their new games their former customers will be filling the forums and social networks with more hatred for SOE than we have seen even since the SWG:NGE debacle.

Such a shame, so easily avoided, and yet in many ways so inevitable.

Just putting this into perspective here.. Most MMO Genre is a niche market.  EQ2 itself is on the very low end in terms of population compared to many other titiles out there.  If the older population leaves, it appears there will be enough Euro advertising to replace the wallets that left without missing a step.  This is a calculated deal.

What would be done besides what has already been done to increase EQ2 population on the US side of the pond?  Likely nothing.  US will fade and whatever money is made from PSS7 will trickle over to SOE to replace the wallets that leve on the US side of the pond.  Whatever happens with EQNext will happen with a whole new type of market and population with a much shorter term memory.

If you value your good memories of this game and feel that this deal will affect you.. that Sony leaves a bad taste in your mouth - for me since Root Kit - then leave now before you become even more bitter over the whole thing.

Believe me.. Sony will not miss you.

What i find funny is the ppl saying well im not really affected by this. But you are. The cash soe got for selling EU rights do you really think that they are going to say yay we got some cash now lets put it back into the game to make it better! No they wont. Even if some see the EU servers as small they still did help bring in cash via SC/subs. No soe lost some of that and even ALOT more from all the ppl that have canceled their sub over this. And that my Friends = less cash going into the game and even less continent provided for the US side. Even less than there is now. This is sh*t for everyone that plays eq2 you might just not understand it yet.

Just to clarify here he is talking about the ritalin kids that like the seizure inducing flashy anime style games, which ala-playa is absolutely loaded down with from the player base to the support department that they recruit from their own playerbase and pay them with ala-playa points.

lol

Good grief.

If any producers are actually reading this, could you log in to at least give an indication that you are present on the forums? You don't have to post. Clearly you don't want to or you would...but just log in. I've been actively looking at who's online since this announcement was made and as far as I have seen, none of you have bothered to grace us with your presence.

-edit doh-

I see Domino now. Guess I should've refreshed before posting.

No one has given a flying one about euro servers for years - hardly even lip service- this is a covert way of shutting them down IMHO.  We've had an 'Expansion' what was an insult. A 'vital game mechanic' suddenly making work to get it futile- and now we are flogged off to the lowest/only bidder. Guess what SOE think you are- clue- it gets stuck to your shoe.

I think its above their pay grade, I think they are in the dark as the rest of everybody else, with the exception of SJ and Smedley and getting a reply from them at this point would be interesting. I would be nice to see that windstalker person that is supposedly the producer of the game to grant us with her wisdom, other than spinning more sc items.

Oh well going to cook more popcorn.

At this point, it should be SJ or Smedley giving us a response. (or domino or windstalker...but I don't know that I've ever seen a domino post that wasn't SC, tradeskill, or housing related...and windstalker has 3 posts total last I checked.) I'd love to hear from anyone, but this is past the point of the lip service the rest of them are able to offer.

SJ probably wouldn't have anything useful to add--and I suspect this was determined above Smed's head, as well.

As I said before--and increasingly feel is likely--they say nothing, because they've got nothing.  They may not even be allowed to comment at this point, though at some stage some explanation of how we got here might at least help everyone propery direct their energies.

That would seem to be a safe bet if you base it on past history.

And you don't find this unacceptable?

The contract was signed 6 WEEKS ago, not 6 days ago. They had 6 WEEKS to iron out the details, not to mention all the talking and negotiating beforehand. 6 WEEKS and all they have is a very vague FAQ with more holes in it then swiss cheese?

Sorry, I don't find that acceptable.

Didn't say I did find it acceptable.  But the current way we're going about this is like flogging the dog because the cat tinkeled on the carpet--maybe the right idea, but the wrong target.

I do wish someone who knows the score would speak up, though.  It might help focus matters a lot and better direct the free-floating anger towards constructive results instead of dragging random targets off to the guillotine.

The post from Brasse is nice & all, & the fuzzy-warm from PSS7/Alaplaya is certainly happy-making, but IMO it's all meaningless. Simply put, it's locking the barn door after the horse has already been stolen.

You guys can blow smoke at us all day long about how you're going to work to keep our communities together, but the bottom line is: YOU SHOULD HAVE TAKEN THAT INTO ACCOUNT BEFORE YOU SIGNED THE CONTRACT.

That you didn't do so, & are now scrambling to clean up the mess, tells me you people at SOE didn't even bother to consider player reaction, & THAT tells me you didn't care. So, why should I believe you now?

SOE has pulled this sort of PR incompetence far too many times. This was the last straw.

Given past experiences in dealing with this company, Smedley and SJ aren't passing on the word to their superiors, even if their superiors ARE the ones who pushed this. Smedley and SJ aren't exactly known for doing things for the betterment of the community. In fact, they are known for doing things to the community's detriment.

EDIT: To add, perhaps if we are loud enough (and I think 2000+ response to this thread is pretty dang loud, especially where 99% of the responses are AGAINST this move), and they look at their monthly sales reports (which will be farther in the red, I imagine), maybe the two of them will wake up from their little dream world and come back down to planet Earth and realize that we are unhappy.

Have played since Day 1 (except SF - thank god I missed that!) and I would say that I can't wait to read about the next Fan-Faire, especially the public question and answer sessions ...

... but I'd have to be an active player to attend Fan-Faire and since I now have nothing but complete and utter contempt for SOE that active status is changing.

Looking forward to more time watching my new non-Sony TV, using my non-Sony Laptopn, listening to my non-Sony stereo. In fact I won't ever buy Sony again.

Yeah, I know.  But we still need to bear in mind that this particular disaster may not be of their making--and may not be entirely in their sole power to mitigate or undo.  (Not that it can be 'undone' in any significant manner as it is.)

Well Domino appears to have left the game - so suspect she won't be posting anything soon. From her twitter:

Let it be noted,  is henceforth known as . Same person, new challenges to face on a new game. Much <3 to EQ2 always!

The change of name makes me wonder if she's left SOE altogether.

As a guild and raid leader of an EU raid alliance on Nagafen i understand that we can all carry on playing there seeing as we are all currently playing there once these changes kick in but what about new EU blood?

At the moment Naggy is the only PvP server and is classified as US. Does this mean that the EU is going to get it's own PvP server? Is Naggy going to be turned into some neutral server so anyone can access it? Or are you finally going to turn Naggy into a PvE server and just give up on the whole open world concept of PvP?

Nagafen has a dwindeling population as it is with all the fail changes to open world pvp and when these changes prevent any new EU players from coming to the server it will effectively close the doors to the EU guilds here to recruit.

These changes really do feel like they have been looked at purely for some kind of financial gain for SOE but if you manage to drive your players away would it be worth it? This game has always been barrier free in respect of mixing the players from all over the world on any server but now you are region restricting us and killing off one of the greatest selling points of the game.

In the 5 or so years i've played EQ2 i have met people from all over the world and even now play with people from Asia, America as well Europe in our guild which would not have been possible on many MMO's and by the looks of it future SoE games.

Please SOE just leave the servers as they are and look at future products to be region locked. This is one aspect of the current game that is far from broken and needs nothing playing around with.
