I was curious to see what race most of your Rangers are and if there is truelly any real difference what a person chooses as their race for their Ranger? If I pick a Half-Elf and gear up the exact same as a human or High Elf am I going to see ANY difference damage wise and ability really?

Thanks and Good Morning!

Nope, teh armour looks just the same regardless what race you are.. females look fortunately slightly different than males thou SMILEYThe race itself also doesnt matter in the long run...Boring? Maybe so, hopefully they change this somewhat in the future (supposedly when they release KoS, some advanced costumes etc are available to different classes or sumthing...)I'd kinda like the old D&D rules where you'd have to be a member of certain race to be able to play certain classes, wouldnt prolly fit into a game like this thou.++Xan

I'm not sure about damage.  I know the racial traits will affect damage (Ogre has more strength then an Elf does).  I went with a Kerran, because of the Sonicvision.  I hated the Infravision of the Elves.  Now I never need to have a Torch with me when it's dark.  Just put on my sonicvision.  Plus, it's cool to be a cat.  Gives new meaning to the Cat-like reflexes that all of us Rangers have.  :smileywink:

In the long run play what u want to look like, only thing u should look at are racial traits each are diff for each race, i don't have a list of them, but kerran have a nice porc buff that 20% to hit 46 slashing damage, it will last for 3 mins and 30 min recast not bad for a ranger.

Wood elf here.  Same as Kerran, we get a piercing proc buff (Brutal Barshings) that hits for about 52 for me, 20% chance, 3 minute duration, 30 minute recast.  We also get infravision which I've only found to be useful when looking for mobs underwater.

Ogre Ranger here, I dont think race REALLY matters, but I do have a higher STR than AGI and do tons of damage.

Kerra here. I went with a kerran ranger b/c we feature male models and b/c c'mon, we're predators! It totally fits. IMO kerra make an ideal race for rangers, but it really is just a matter of preference. Plus, kerra males have the best physique in the game. Kinda feel bad for them teeny lil' wood elves.

56 half elf ranger here.In the begining the race matters. As your race razes up certain stats.IE Agility or strength. The higher you go the less it matters and it becomes all about your equipment. As you basically get your stats from equipment.Want to hit hard, get st. equipment.

I went with the half-elf more in tribute to my very first role played character WAYYYY back in the original Diablo days. (You know you can role-play when you are playing a female "toon" and role playing as a male archer. heh

Anyways... My human male "scout" was married to a female elf "scout" (played by my long time gaming partner) and I guess this would be the offspring of the two of them as she no longer plays. Besides that... other than the big ears, he pretty much looks like me. hehe

I don't get it.  How can all you furless rangers judge the wind without whiskers?  How can you smell anything with those collapsed faces?  It's a wonder you guys don't fall over more than you do, without tails.  Don't even get me started on your tiny beady eyes.Kerrans seem to be the only race that can come close to Ratonga at ranging prowess.  Of course, they're big and awkward, and it takes a truly bafoonish monster not to see a Kerran hiding.  But they are tall, so they can use powerful bows.

What of us wood elves with our large ears and eyes, you may be able so smell me (IF the wind is right) but we will always be able to ear you for miles and dont even try to sneak up on us a night (again IF you could even find us). You can smell the wind BUT we ARE the wind, swift, silent and weightless.

Froglok because water vision and a 3 minute underwater breathing are the greatest racial benefits in the game.  But seriously they do look cool.

Wood Elf here...and watch it Jay......This Woody will snip yer tail!.....It doesn't matter much.....I'm sure with the higher Str the Ogre's get translates into about 1 extra DPS over the Agi I was forced to take...I made it up and gear and boast a 227 self buffed (Rings) Str.

I'm a barbarian, mainly just because I felt like it, you know how it goes. Dont regret it at all, and last time I checked, been a long time now, I was the only level 60 barbarian ranger on my server lol. I do like the traits barbarians get though I'll say that. But I never really messed with too many other races on my characters to compare with.

Once upon a time, Agility mattered for rangers.  As it should, for if you read Sony's very own descriptions of the races, you will see that high agility is supposed to be a plus to scout types.  Thus, woodelves were a classic ranger type.. which fit both the persona of the ranger and also the ingame stat benefits.

I am not sure WHAT Sony was thinking when they changed all melee hits (including bows) to be based off strength.  I mean, I'm not trying to be uber, but think about it for a moment.  Why PENALIZE me for playingn a woodelf ranger over being a Barbarian, Ogre, Troll, etc.  Do you see the flaw in all that, Sony?

I'd love to have an explanation on why the best races for ranger (according to Sony;s very own description!) should be inferior to an Ogre in our primary role in groups.. dps.  Can anyone help me gain some clarity on this?  Did they make this change without any thought whatsoever?  I mean.. why not just eliminate racial stats then?  If a traditional race for a class isn't better it should not be worse!  Bah, the more I think about it, the more upset I get  SMILEY

Nope, me too. Got a kerran ranger in the guild but his tail keeps getting caught in the doors. (I suppose I should stop slamming them on him SMILEY )

High elf here, which really does appear to be the least common combination in the game.  The reason for that choice?  I liked the looks of the high elves.  Nothing more to it than that.  :smileyhappy:

Gnome all the way , first cuz a gnome ranger is just too [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] funny =) and second because when i rerolled from my 58 pally i went with the race which i saw that we didnt had much on server , now being the only gnome ranger 60 on server , i like it )

And even though gnomes might not have the highest str at first , with the right equipement , u can get what u want , raid buffed bout 530str =)

Testing sig in same time , hope it works
