Since no SOE devs were available at the time of the interview, or ever willing to talk about the PvP details of ROK I interviewed an even more reliable source for the PvP details of RoKTimorous Deep/TD the new starting cityQ)Is TD on the same faction as Freeport?A)Reply hazy, try againQ)Is TD on the same faction as haven then?A)Concentrate and ask againQ)Is TD a 4th faction that can attack anybody who is not on the TD faction?A)Outlook goodQ)So you mean the TD faction gets all city benifits, pvp gear, and access to all classesA)Better not tell you nowQ)Did you guys completely forget about PvP and put essencial quest NPCs for our epic quests  inside a hostile pvp city?A)You may rely on itQ)So TD guards will be non agro to all hostile pvp players or hostile pvp players can work up faction with your guards leaving members on the TD faction without gaurds?A)Signs point to yesQ)So you are saying PvP is a complete afterthought in Kunark and you now have no clue how you're going to shove a square peg into a round hole?A)Without a doubtQ)So is the solution then to keep TD a "neutral city" that is non pvp hostile to both Qeynos and Freeport that can only attack Exiles from haven?A)Don't count on itThe newbie 1-20 zone on the TD faction that has 25% more quests than darklight woods.Q)How is it for pvp?A)Outlook not so goodQ)Is it going to be gank central?A)It is certainQ)Is it mixed into the new city much like Gfay and Kelethin where hostile pvpers are going to constantly need to worry about carnage flags and native can hug immunity most of the time?A)Most likelyQ)Did you guys forget about PvP again only to make a last ditch effort to smash a square peg into a round hole?A)You may rely on itQ)Is T8 pvp gear and level 71+ tokens going live with ROK?A)Cannot predict now

Timorous Deep will be an evil city so the same faction of Freeport and will be like Kelethin in that both evil and good can enter if they don't cause trouble. My source is here. The answer to Timorous Deep is the 6th question down. As for the other question I can't help as I know absolutly nothing of PvP and how it works at all and especially about how it's implemented in RoK.

The ten ton hammer interview is about as vague as the magic 8 ball when it comes to pvp.  If the new city is going to be like an evil Kelethin Scott Hartsman should just say it's going to be like an evil Kelethin.  We should find out how it works in november when the pvp test servers called Nagafen, Venekor, and Vox finish the rok beta testing.  SMILEY

I am pretty sure there will be a Beta-PVP-Server as well.. that would be awful if they dont test the additions to pvp before they launch it (wouldnt be first time tho huh). However, if so.. we will find out earlier SMILEY

I expect to have the quest-starter of the Epic quests deep inside TD, which will be hostile. The quest giver will be hostile and wont speak to anyone.

Oh, and Epic guards everywhere.

If TD is really going to be like an Evil Kelethin, then a load of people are going to be evil, and the influx will once again make freeps beat Qs 5:1 on the Vox Server.

Not only that, but we'll expect a good city in order to match us the alliances, NOT ONLY THAT, but also a rip-off Sarnack race.

Personally, bringing the Sarnack as a playable race was a bad idea IMO.

its going to be an exile based city : common knowledge in haven.

edit> any faction will be welcome there, but if the city is not part of either established faction, then citizens of those established factions will be unable to gain a "citizenship" with a city definatively outside of their faction (without giving up citizenship of their established faction based city)

exiles on the other hand, have no contradictory city affinity.

unless of course all the pvp teamsters yell enough about it and they will bend political logic toward easily facilitating city dwellers perpetual ubriety by offering a dual citizenship with no drawbacks (likely considering the playerbase, the ruleset, and...developmental trending)

But .... I thought Neriak was an Evil Kelethin?  Not that I'll ever know, since those gate guards are a bit ... nasty.  But you see my point?  Is there going to be a 'good' Timorous Deep to offset it?

Side note to Haven residents: if they make a city zone that we (as in all of Norath) have access to, there will be raid upon raid upon raid visiting the town from all those city-folk who've carried any sort of a grudge about there being an off-limits city for exiles to go to.

You'd say so.. it brought us the 'bad' fae didn't it? People would expect a good&bad race now.

Anyway, let me just make clear here that SOE gave our guild an exclusive right:

-- With the introduction of RoK, only our guild '[Removed for Content]' may make dragons (or 'Sarnak&#39SMILEY with a green skincolor --

Well, at least on Venekor and Lucan d'Lere... you don't wanna know what we had to do for the exclusives. Ofcourse we also got a GMs walkthrough "How to betray from Gorowyn to Qeynos in 2 days", to enable them to join our good-aligned guild asap after creation.

Boy, I'm looking forward to it! SMILEY Rok rocks

All the above are great reasons, why there is no room for PvP in EQ2.

But lucky for us - even if they mess up PvP in EQ2 big time, it will never be as boring as playing on a blue server. Cheers!

Dev meeting somewhere deep in the atlas mountains:

'So I hear the people on the PvP servers are loosing all faith in us. It seems we never post any information about PvP updates'.

'I know, seeing as we haven't actually shown any interest in the last few months, I've got some options:

A) We post nothing at all

B) We post something entirely vague, with no new information, just re-wording what they already know

C) We show interest, and try to answer their questions as well as possible

'Out of all those options, I think 2 is the best: when people see the red name they get excited, thinking that we might post something useful, then, BAM, we hit them with the weakest [Removed for Content] ever. That way we raise their hopes just to dash them again.

'Ok all in favour of option 2'

**Everyone is room raises their hand**

i dont think you quite get it dood.

a dev most likely posted here first because :

Greenion had an episode about not being able to create a green sarnak...which in fact i was honestly on the fence about...actually torn between wanting a certain peice of ingame fluff, and wanting to see a group of people that probably had to work very hard for a certain distinctive reward. i'd written a rather lengthy post at first instead of "gratz"

relative issues have come up before (rewards for testing)...and i think it a good thing, in fact, id rather see them get the distiction to set a precedent that distinction can be made to players that contribute their time toward structured testing...on a large magnitude...in fact i think it such a good thing id rather see them get to have the only green sarnaks on the server and not have one of my own (after, as i mentioned, some initial shock), that is of course if a set of people earned such in the eyes of the development team.

so...i think grimwell was laughing (@ greenion) because at this point i owe vivi BIG. (/greenion grudgingly awards vivi 1 forum point)

aeralik i think followed up for two reasons :

1 : to turn the page and put valid dev info at the top.

2 : since the majority of the game related discussion on the first page seemed to be centered on the factionality of the new city...his post cleared up any conjecture on that subject...leaving us to discuss the factoid further.

edit> do you play a milamber on venekor? because i offed one the other day...

Open a FFA servers and free transfer to it, nuff said* And I thought they were [Removed for Content] about the green sarnak, so only one guild in the entire game can make them? lol, seems a lil' silly, should be one per server at least.

i think they were kidding about the color, which is why i owe vivi one, i fell for it.

edit> consideration of the situation as if it were true brought up a few valid thoughts about player rewards though...which i would support.

Instead of worrying about new PVP token armor, how about fixing the current EoF Warlock PVP token forearm proc that doesn't work? =P

Ok it doesn't work, and hasn't since it release but its ok just make the level 80 warlock pvp armor way more uber than other classes and we can call it even.

One could take that as a Yes there is t8 set armor going live.Or one could just shake a magic 8 ball and speak for the devs.Hmmm.....have to think which is more entertaining SMILEY

Congratulations. That was easily the most closed minded statement of the year. That sounded so "go to the back of the bus please" that I threw up a little in my mouth. SMILEYAll the OP was trying to bring up.. in a very humorous manner I might add, is that the inclusion of a beta PvP server would have been nice.Wasn't a rant.. wasn't a whine. More like a reminder. And, what does he get for a response? "Take your play style and go play another game".Nice. What do you do in your spare time? Beat up roleplayers and steal their lunch money?

well tim deep isnt exactly on freeport type faction, my ranger went there he did get carnage flagged. BUT all of the merchants sold to him. even the mount merchant, broker, banker etc etc

the mount merchant in terrans grasp requires you to gain 20k faction before he will do business, the mount guy in timm deep requires no faction and will sell to anyone reguardless of faction.
