Seems about everytime the client is patched it brings back crashes. Patch before last started causing crashes in xul.dll which is of course dated in 2007 and a newer version of 2010 is out there. I downloaded it and replaced the one in eq2 game folder but todays patch of course brought this

Again it appears to be xul.dll related but of course not a single way of fixing it. The game is becoming unplayable every time I turn around. Is it maybe time to find something else to play? Because I know I'm not looking forward to even more crashes or more money spent to upgrade hardware just to get away from crashes.

I am sorry you are having crash issues but it sounds to me like there is some other problem at work.  I would suspect either a hardware problem like a bad piece of memory, a driver issue or some kind of corrupt file.

Have you tried using a completely different PC to log in with your character?

Does this crash happen in the same place all the time or after the same amount of play-time?

Why even ask that question. Thousands of players are expierencing crashes and HUGE lag. Saturday night Crushbone server crashed twice. Two different raids, one run by Brigade 9 and the other run by Brigade 7 both crashed simultaniously, as did my wife and brother-in-law who play but were not raiding with us. So 50 different people, with 50 different setup, isp's, telecoms, modeum, and routers, all in differing locations ... all crashed at once.

Do you honestly think that they all decided to install bad memory just prior to the crash, or that their hardware all went south at the same time, or that they all installed or had drivers corrupted all at the same time ?

The servers are all being uploaded with new code ... is any of that causing our problems. I should think that this would be the first place programmers would look. Why are the red names here always blaming the players first before getting their own house in order.

While I am on the subject, how is the in-game chat fix going ? I thought a fix was being play tested. As for the fixes to the lag introduced by LU52, did you finally give up on a fix for that as well ? Everyone I know has had to reduce their graphics settings just to play. The graphics in EQ1 from 5 years ago currectly look better than what I am reduced to playing with.

Seriously, it sounds to us like the servers are being uploaded with code that is causing serious problems.

You and the OP are talking about two separate issues.  The crashing on Crushbone was most definitely due to a database issue on our end.  But that doesn't mean every other crash that a player experiences is due to a server problem.

I'm merely looking at their DXDiag info and listening to the symptoms of their problem and its my opinion (which could be wrong) that the OP's problem is not server-related.

I've asked more questions in an attempt to help them get to the bottom of it.  Responses like yours certainly don't encourage "red names" to participate in the forums.  Keep in mind that this is optional for the dev team.

Rothgar, I am truely sorry. You guys work hard and are usually under appreciated. You try to help and you get flak from the players, myself included. But please understand that we are frustrated and are rapidly getting close to the end of our ropes.

We love this game and have a lot of our lives tied up in our characters. I know you play and you can understand the pain. When issues go on and we don't see any responses we really lose it. It makes us feel like SoE has decided to cut their losses and move on ... like the players are being ignored.

This game ... your game ... isbeutiful. We just want to see it again in all its' glory. President Obama gave a "State of the Union Address" last night. Weather you liked what he said or not, he brought everyone up to speed on how he saw things and where he thought things were going. Is there any way we can get a "State of the Game" to let us know where all the fixes are, eta's on what we might see, and things that have been dumped as unfixable. You would be able to move on then, a lot of the sniping would go away if the players (like myself) knew that they were not being ignored.

Again I apologise. It has been a tough week and I am sure that you week has been just as tough.

While we can understand your frustration, this is not the best place to post it.  This thread is for helping the original poster with his specific technical issue.  If you're having server-side problems then I would advise using the /bug and/or /feedback commands so that we can test and recreate them.

I'm going to resurect this thread as my wife is having a very similar problem with xul.dll and eq2. She has a single character on her accounts that is crashing consitantly to desktop. She can raid for hours on Tasoula with no problem, however, if she plays Panaceia she can't stay in game for longer than a half hour before it crashes. This is on multiple computers in our household. I would believe it was possibly on our end if she couldn't play her other characters for short periods but when it is only this one on the account it makes me feel as though it is a DB and Sony issue causing the problem.

I have attached her info below (msinfo and dxdiag):

Hi Haldir, I'm sorry about the crash issues.  Can you tell me if you have any of the following files in her EQII directory?

crashlog.txt

eq2_crash.log

eq2_crash_old.log

If so, please send me a PM so I can arrange to get a copy from you.

xul.dll is related to the in-game browser.  Do you use any kind of mod that interfaces with the browser?

You could try deleting the "mozilla" folder inside the EQ2 folder, and do a full patch to re-download it.  This will also delete the in-game browser cache, which might be related to your crash.

Rothgar,

Thanks for your continued search for this issue. The following is from eq2_crash_old.log last modified 2/6/2010 in her directory. That is all that was there.

As per her using UI mods she does use Prophet UI but it is weird this issue is only on a single toon. We attempted deleting all the UI files for this toon and having the game place them back with defaults to no avail. I also asked her if it is whenever she opened a browser in game and she said it happens randomly (basically she can be running through a zone and it will crash).

I'm having the same issue.  I do use profit ui and it does seem to only affect certain characters.  I understand xul.dll has to do with the in-game browser, but the crash seems random; whether I have opened the browser window window in that session or not.

The only thing I've noticed that I haven't seen mentioned is that my gamma will "lighten up" right before the crash.  It's probably the beginning of the crash just "dumping" but I thought it worth mentioning.

I looked for the three files Rothgar mentioned, but the only one I had was the "old" file.  Here is the text:  (Oh and also I'm on Windows 7 64-bit)

I have random crashes as well, they seem to occur more often when questing and in open zones. Instances seem to be fairly stable for the most part, after reading about the possibility of the in game web browser causing crashes I'm going to pay more attention to the relationship between that and the crashes. I use Prophet and am running Windows 7 64 bit. Here is my eq2_crash_old.log: SOEBuild=6284L SOEVersionString=2010/2/25 15:37:20 EVERQUEST2 CRASH LOG ================================================== ================================================ Unhandled exception EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION at 0x10022EB5 Application was trying to read from 0x00000008 Region Begins At: 0x00000000 Region Ends At: 0x00010000 Region Size Is: 0x00010000 bytes Memory Protection: PAGE_NOACCESS (00000001) Memory State: MEM_FREE Memory Type: Free Game Data: SOEBuild: SOEBuild=6284L SOEVersionString: SOEVersionString=2010/2/25 15:37:20 OS Version: 6.1.7600 VER_NT_WORKSTATION CPU: 4 x86 GenuineIntel 3MHz RDTSC MSR CMPXCHG8 SSE SSE2 DirectX Version: 10.0 Video Card/Driver: [NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512] [nvd3dum.dll] 8.17.11.9621 {d7b71e3e-4540-11cf-fb56-09251cc2c535} Time at crash: Sun Feb 28 14:17:33 2010 Login Server: none Performance: 4 Game Uptime: 613 seconds Position last frame: 1298.80, -208.23, 3251.81 Zone name: exp06_rgn_odus_south Time in Zone: 535 seconds Previous Zone name: GameScene::ZR_NETWORKED_ZONE_CHANGE Multi-core support: enabled Low-Memory Mode: disabled Resolution: 1920x1200 (60 hz) fullscreen UI: UI/ProfitUI Log: Received chat channel update msg... I don't use profit and I'm also experiencing random crashes that occur at odd times and it only started occuring about 2 days ago.  These are hard crashes that lock up my computer.   Unfortunately because of the lock ups, there is no crash log captured.  My screen stutters badly then locks.

We'd appreciate any help with this.
