What I had read on Zam about the live event and the quest, it was said that there was to be a 3 hour wait between the heroic quests at both the Dragon Ring and at the Eastern Waste Spires.  In fact the description on Zam went into further detail describing that on the Dragon Ring heroic quest would start on the hour, then the EW Spires heroic quest would begin in an hour and half from the start of the Dragon Ring.  Then in another hour and a halt the Dragon Rind would repeat..  That timer set up would have easily slowed down the progress toward completion.  By my calcualtions the events would have had to last a minimum of 150 hours or 6 days in rl.

That was the original intention when the event went onto Test, that changed at some point apparently. SMILEY I did end up revising what we had on zam's event page last night.

Gninja posted somewhere else yesterday that it changed to 1 hour between each battle but the dragon ring was at 30 mins for some reason. Either way you slice it something got a bit messed up.

I think anyone who participated in the final kill on whatever servers ended up with a bugged event absolutely deserve their rewards.

I also think that when the event comes back up it should be reset to 0 and there should be plenty of notice of the day / time it will be reactivated via a forum post, motd notice, welcome screen notice, on the calendar, AND an in game email letting you know there's a world event happening.

Lots of people had no idea it was happening and as much as I stay on these forums I didn't know until I noticed it on the calendar and decided to go hang out by the dragon ring and see if it started at that time.  The welcome screen said sometime this week and the last forum update I'd remembered seeing was SJ saying the date was being discussed.

^ This.. oh SO this! This is exactly how I feel too! I had to go to bed.. and the events didn't finish on CB... but, wow.. so poorly planned and communicated. I'm not all "flaming the devs".. things happen. But we'd all like to participate. So, what she said.. give the people what they won.. let us keep out goodies and tokens.. and start over. I can't see any way that it might negatively impact game play for us to have extra appearance gear and house items.

Adding my voice to the call to reset everything to zero.

This event has been royally botched and it will need some quite creative thinking by SOE to come up with a solution that will please the four groups we have:

1. Those there when the event bugged out at 99%

2. Those who had to sleep before getting the spires to 99%

3. Those who can't play until Saturday thus missed the spires getting to 99%

4. The lowbies who are dribble fed 3 tokens per fedex.

Royally botched.

Hey everyone,

We are aware of the issues with the event.  We just updated the article with the following text.

**The Gnomes have thrown some nuts and bolts into the system and this World Event is on hold until further notice. Please note that your progress has been saved. When the World Event is reactivated you can start up where you left off. **

Thanks so much for your understanding

No formal date of this event was plastered on the website so, while my wife and I were on a business to LA during this week, we missed MOST of this event.

When we FINALLY have a chance to jump on to TRY and participate in the event, it's NOT ONLY seriously bugged, but it is PULLED from our server Antonia Bayle.

...

NOW you're telling us that once it does go live again, it will pick up where AB left off which is, and we JUST FOUND OUT, at 99 % completion. So even when it DOES go live we don't get to do JACK SQUAT as it will more than likely COMPLETE and DISAPPEAR within minutes of going live AGAIN.

ALL I can say is [Removed for Content], Sony...SERIOUSLY?

Update:  the current plan is that when the event is resumed, any servers below 50% progress when the event was suspended will resume progress where they left off.  However, due to some of the issues that are being addressed currently, some servers had progressed further than intended in the time the event was active. Servers that had over 50% progress will be reset to 50%. This should extend the life of the event and allow more people to participate.  This looks to be the following servers:  Antonia Bayle, Butcherblock, Crushbone, Everfrost, Freeport, Guk, Permafrost, and Splitpaw.

As mentioned, the event will NOT reactivate this weekend, so relax and enjoy your weekend doing other things. We'll announce next week when it will be reactivated, and provide more details at that time. We will be sure to give at least a day's notice in advance so you can plan appropriately.

Thanks for your patience, watch for more details next week, and we look forward to seeing you at the rebuilding sites! SMILEY

Domino,

Thanks for the reply and update. It IS greatly appreciated.

Would it be too much to ask if when live events are planned, the developers please consider that rather than having an event that can be completed mere HOURS after being made available, with or without detailed advertising, events be coordinated over a 1 or 2 week period?

It would really make a LOT of players happy and offer a wide enough opportunity of participation from both your hardcore and casual EQ2 audience.

Thanks for the update, was hoping for a full reset but I think this will help a lot more people with being able to participate as long as progression is slowed down.

Thank you for this but as others said, it would be nice if this event was spread out over a week or two so everyone who wants to participate can do so.

Thank you, Domino and all the rest!

I still think it would be nice to have the beer/crystal run active for the full duration, even after the kill stuff all dies, in addition to the ground spawn.

Oh amnother thing I thought was odd was the items up for sale on the vendor.  What's with the random misc items from other events like Frostfell: a dark frozen tile? Fayberry muffins? Umm OK   And what happened to the other new cloaks that were on the test server, the cool rime ones with burnout patterns?

The frozen tiles are originally from Icy Keep (the raid zone), but added to Frostfell so non-raiders can get them. I think they're a good reward since lots of decorators want tiles and they fit well with the icy theme of Velious. A lot of the other items are from either the Void Storms or D.I.R.T.Y. events, which, while new items are good, it's also nice to be able to get some of those old items that people either missed out on or wish they got more of. And it's a lot quicker to offer old event items than make the art and animation for all new stuff.

The bolded part is the core of all of the problems that are plaguing the game today, sure it was a lot quicker to use the same (albeit cool looking kite shield) appearance for a buckler and a tower shield for loot for a x4 raid and it was even quicker to use identical stats on them and all of the other items in the game now it still doesn't mean that the result makes it a laughing stock. Besides, why should anymore focus over the bare minimum they feel they can get by with be put into new art for the game if it isn't going onto a pay to win SC item.

Yes, I wish some of the SC stuff were questable instead, but bringing back old event items (which I'm very happy to see back) is hardly the biggest problem with the game. As much as I'd love to see new items for everything, the dev team can't do it - they have to make every equippable item work with 26 different character models. They're working on improving the system, but that's what it is for now. And I don't really care if items have identical stats, since I don't play the game only because I want that next big piece of loot. The quests and the fights and the story are much more important to me, whether I get better loot or not.

Exactly.  Whether or not the event is working right, it's still moving along too fast.

Yes within a day on AB was 100% finished.  Dropped the ball on that one didn't ya?

Apologize for sounding like this but really ...

Hopefully it gets fixed so some people can try and participate.

I say that SOE realize they messed up, give out the rewards for the people who should have gotten it, and reset the entire event on all the servers. Yes, that means that some people may be able to get the final battle reward twice, but it would allow more of a chance for *anyone* to participate rather than those who were lucky enough to be able to stay up all night on the day the event was released.

And yes don't get me wrong.  For those on all servers who worked the quests SHOULD get their rewards, only fair!

Hi

Just wanted to add my 2 cents SMILEY

I have been reading the Player replies on the Test Forum about the World Event and it seems to me, that the Dev in charge just did not listen to the Testers. There were so many issues that were not good, so I really really do not understand the decision to let the event go to the Live Servers. It is one more event that has not been thought through to the end. It is really a shame, that an old and expierienced crew like SOE has, should be directed to look at a new game like Rift to show how such an event can work properly.

Being at it: As an example, if Dev's change something in the game, it could well be, that this change affects something else, something let's say that worked just fine over a long time.  That, it seems, is a mistake by the Codemasters, that they do not realize the consequences of a change and do not properly evaluat changes. Maybe SOE should have a good look at that department....

Remember that Mobs started to 'dance' around you until they found there proper spot to attack? Well it had been fixed, but now it is broken again - why? And that goes on - for me it is just a question of ability and quality.

And as a last point I would like to add, that communication on the German Forum is at a century low. I have permanently to come here, to the English Forum to get the news. One small example is the Hardware change for Valor. We hear NOTHING, we ask and still we hear NOTHING - and now the announcment, that the World Event is down has been posted at the German Forum - in English! Great oh just great. Somethings have to changed and I really hope they will.

F.

I see how you took that out of context, "It's a lot quicker" was what I was saying was the core of the problem, the remainder was just the example you provided. So many things are being half-[Removed for Content] in this game now, they made some replica's of these things so we will see what they look like, they should look amazing and everyone that has a house and likes to decorate should want one in every home. I hope they are so and TTobey can do it, but him or whoever else it might be are certainly assigned priority and the priority of what really looks nice is currently seems focused solely on SC items. I hope I am wrong about the items and if I am I'll make a post praising them, i just have this feeling...

This is still going to be messed up the event will fire off again on Tuesday's hotfix and the servers that get rolled back to 50% will still be done by Friday. If I even get a chance to play it will be minuscule and I probably won't get enough tokens for anything I'd want and having a bad taste in my mouth about how totally, senselessly and completely fail this event rolled out in light of everything else that has happened since DoV launched, might not even play at all. If it is at 90% friday morning next week there will be no point in me doing so.

The code for this event could have very easily dynamically adjusted to adjust the percentage completion based on the projected values for each indvidual server to 'throttle check' the progress and dynamically slow it to prevent going over X% per 5 minutes. That isn't one of those 'hindsight' things either, that is something that there should have been 'foresight' to see in the first place.

The event was increasing by at least 1% per round completion on Guk, without any of the extra runner quests or anything.  I checked.  So the Dragon Ring was at least a 2% increase per hour minimum, and the Spires was a 1% increase.  That was WAY too fast.  Just...way.

I can't remember which live event it was now, but it was a few ago...maybe the wizard spires?  But anyway, I remember them creeping up INCREDIBLY slowly on our server, which was just fine.  I mean, I would spend ALL day doing whatever it was we were supposed to be doing--and not just me, many other people--and I'd check the event progress and we would have MAYBE moved up a percent.  And I mean *all day*.

That's what should be happening here.  Not 2% per hour.  That's just a pretenderous amount, to steal a term from Strong Bad.

That seems to match what I saw - about 1 or 2 % for the fights alone.  But at the spires at least with so many doing crystal runs it added about 3 times that much progress.  I saw it go up 20% in 3 hours.

First contentious point:

No. People who worked to get the spires to 99% should not get rewarded for that. They have not "done the work". The amount of work required was set too low and/or too easy to get it to 99%. Therefore, respectfully, they do not deserve reward for (almost) completing an event that was badly implemented.

Also, the final reward is just more tokens. Not that big of a deal anyway, imho. Everyone will now have much more opportunity to be rewarded many more tokens, more indeed, than the final reward would have given.

Second point:

Quests should remain after the main event, for approx 7 days. Perhaps smaller amounts of token could be rewarded for clearing up stragglers and remaining Ry'Gorr forces, perhaps with three tiers of targets: solo, small group and full group (with three escalating token rewards for each, repeatable once an hour).

Of course, I don't expect this last point to be implemented - it's far too late in the process for that, but that's how I might have approached it.

my idea is that one mishap whit designing this is that that the mob start running from such a big distance, this make ppl inpatient and meet up whit the mobs. this cause the fights to be very spread out and risk half the attesting ppl to be to far away from the fight to get update. as for stage one, 20 ppl quickly burn down the "final" mob so the bunch of ppl killing on other side have no chance to get to the place in time to get update.

i rather see portals like in tower of frozen shadow (tserinna fight) where mob spawn from, it can be collected in one area so fight doesn't spread out and all can be in distance to damage the mob. instead of the mirror that mob spawn from it can be the "endmob" summoning waves and get attackable after last wave is killed.alternately the mob can run form a far distance as they do now but isn't attackable until then for example step on the wizard spire platform and are within the dragon druid ring.

players with sens and who experienced not getting update stay on platform (in wiz example), but currently it was build so ppl had to learn the hard way that the need to fight within range of quest and in range so everyone had chance for update.

about end fight is it possible to design it so that it has to be done several times before it is complete? perhaps when at end fight stage the fight start twice a day for 4-5 and need to be completed 8-10times before event finishes (doing it in multiple zone at same time shouldn't get multiple update even tho participants get updates). it would be a bummer if missing it to do sleeping working or zone being full. also crashing due to lag on that one final fight wouldn't be fun.

i want to say i like the event designed as a public quest, i think it a much better solution then earlier events as it now are easier to participate. before i have experienced it to be hard to get a group to grind as many tokens i wanted, making me dependent on other player as solo quest such as crafting was really slow. it is really cool this isn't conditional to if i get invited to a group. so thanks for making this a public quest and i hope you keep that for future event also.

The final reward is not for getting the progress to 99%, it is for defeating the epic x4 raid boss that spawns at that point.  Otherwise anyone has contributed at any point in the event would claim the final reward.  The last quest turn-in that ticks over the end of the event is no more important than all the others that preceeded it and does not get any extra reward.

The boss was defeated on 2 servers quite legitimately and the only reason those people did not get a reward is due to one bugged and unkillable mob.  I don't disagree that getting to 99% was far too fast and easy, but to tell people that defeated the raid boss that they do not deserve a reward is very unfair.  They most assuredly have 'done the work' - they killed the Big Bad.

Disclaimer: I do not play on those servers nor do I have an adventurer high enough to take part in the final event.

We also have not seen any indication that when the event is restarted that it will be run any differently, other than fixing the bugs and setting progress back to a maximum of 50%.

It would be a a good customer relations exercise and not overpowered to reward those that finished the event which would have completed except for buggy code.  The events should then be reset as discussed and slowed to allow more people to participate.  They should also be better publicised to ensure that all know when they will be available.

To those pointing at the DIRTY items back on the merchant, I wanted to say that those items are there because we specificaly asked Gninja to bring them back because 2 Maj'Dul themed house are on the Station Market without any Maj'Dul themed items remaining in game.

I agree with Firnbarion above, Storms had no news at all on the boards until someone posted it... in english. We did get the server message and motd in french which is better than usual, but someone posting infos in French and German would be welcome. Having to relay on players able to read the english boards to pass info is not so good.

Thanks for bringing back at 50% for those above. I hope the event will be slowed down a bit too (but don't slow it to a crawl either, slow servers would like to finish it before 2012 ;p).... And I sure hope the final number of shinies (2 in stage 1 every 2.30 min, 4 in stage 2 & 8 in stage 3 with 30s repop) will be uped a lot, or PQ will stay every 3 hours, or solo quests will stay or anything.

Thanks for your patience, watch for more details next week, and we look forward to seeing you at the rebuilding sites!

good to hear but can you get us an Ingame message of some sort as it was only through chance that i got to hear about this event starting in the first place.

Very good to hear that the event will be partially reset. But that's not of much use if it isn't also slowed way down. Hope to see some sort of announcement on this soon.

I"m very happy to see the event will be partially reset as well.  I'm on AB and had only a few hours after work to participate in it.  By the next morning I heard it was at 99% due in part to people staying up all night...which is fine but those of us that work don't have that luxury.  My main playtime is the weekend and a few hours in the evenings.  I think it should be accessible to everyone given that regardless of the hours we can play - we all pay the same subscription rate.

If they don't fix this, then it will be over within 10 minutes of going back live (at least on AB).  Sounds like a 'world event' that only a few were able to participate in.

Reset the progression and slow it down!

In case you missed it earlier in the thread they are backing up the progress a bit for certain servers.
