Hello and thanks for reading this! With the new FTP model we're getting a lot of new people to all of our servers. If you're thinking about roleplaying on Antonia Bayle or any other server this might give you a little insight about how to go about doing it. By no means is this telling you "how things are run" or "how you're supposed to do things" but instead a suggestion as to how you might be able to get involved in our great established community. Feel free to discuss this if you'd like, and I hope we all see you out there roleplaying!

"Those who serve me well shall gain glory and power beyond any mortal dream; those who stand in my path shall be swept away and destroyed." - Lucan D'Lere, Overlord of FreeportWelcome to Freeport, roleplayer! We're very glad to have you as a part of this community of dastardly citizens. So. You want to be a baddie in Freeport? Awesome! Freeport has been a tumultous city even since EQ1. Hopefully this guide will serve as a stepping stone towards some amazing RP for you. First a little history for you:Freeport used to be a dark and dreary place, filth in the streets, faded plaster on the cracked walls... a real wretched hive of scum and villany. After being kidnapped by a powerful being, Lucan returned with a vengence, punishing the mice who played when the cat was away, and rebuilding the city into a gleaming icon on the horizons of the continent of D'Lere. Power and personal gain are usually the only two things on the menu to those who live within Freeport's walls. Lucan's Militiamen usually care little for the populace unless they're breaking the very many laws of the oppressive regime. How did the Overlord come to rule Freeport? Sir Lucan outed the Knights of Truth hundreds of years ago as they went on a crusade in the Faydwer and took the city for himself, hiring mercenaries and calling them the Freeport Militia. After killing a Sentry named Dillius, who was a paladin like himself, Lucan D'Lere lost his divine powers and became a fallen paladin, a fact that very few even recall anymore. When the Knights of Truth tried to rise up against him, he and his men fought back, eventually taking Freeport for themselves. The bodies of the Knights of Truth are still in crypts in the Graveyard this very day. Speak with Custodian Zaddar for a little more insight to this lore. Now for the fun part: RP!When roleplaying in the city of Freeport it's important to keep in mind the atmosphere of the city you live in. It's an oppressive dictatorship, where the ruler of the city is a god-king. While he tolerates religious practice, he often makes himself out to be the true god to worship, for when the gods abandoned Norrath and fell silent, Lucan remained. Citizens, usually out of fear, are quick to say his praises in the face of the many patrols of Militia. To be a loyal citizen of Freeport is rather easy. All you need to do is bow to the factions of Freeport and the Overlord. Praise him in what you do and say. Denounce the wicked and oppressive Queen of Qeynos, Antonia Bayle and her weak citizens at every turn. Pass out flyers In-Character about flushing out the dissenters and Qeynosian sympathizers, help the Militia when you see them, report suspicious activity. Plot their demise! After all, you're wicked at heart. Who wouldn't want to see a city of good topple to the ground?Through the fear though, some citizens harbor discontent for their city. It happens, and we've all seen what happens when a dictator is ousted. Some citizens don't like Lucan, and would like nothing more than to see his power crumble. This is a perfectly acceptable RP angle to choose, but it's how you execute it that makes it all the more believable.First, shouting hate for Freeport/Lucan at the top of your lungs is rather looked down upon. In reality, were you to denounce a dictator, surrounded by their guards and assassins, you'd be quieted very quickly... and permanently. In Freeport, you'd face an execution at best. Your soul might be given over to the Academy of Arcane Sciences or the Dismal Rage for experimentation. Freeport is a VERY scary place. One suggestion would be to make your operations on the downlow. After all, if you have a hidden blade, would you tell people where you were hiding it? From the Dethknell Citadel floating above you, along with the new smaller ones, it is clear that big brother is watching you. This doesn't mean you can't RP in the open. Far from it. With a covert operation you might help smuggle people out of the city so they can go to greener pastures, like Qeynos or Kelethin, or perhaps you can nick cargo from supply vessels inbound to Freeport. Piracy is a viable option too! Perhaps you can be a fence and smuggle illicit goods through the city while playing nice with the guards. There's so many angles to take to be defiant that don't involve waving a flag of dissent in the face of Lucan.I hope this guide can give you some ideas on how to roleplay in Freeport. It's a very fun city if you let it be.Thank you and good luck!

Glad to see your guild still working RP even in the New Freeport.  Had my char walking through there when Kendrich gave a "friendly public service announcement" about getting off one's horse while entering buildings, even among the RP haters on AB.

Kenrich is awesome! XD And we're not going to be afraid to RP out in the open. If people didn't want to be around RP they could have easily chosen the server without (RP) next to it and still have been able to play. There will be trolls, but they're easy to ignore. SMILEY
