I was answering a question today on the fury board, and did some research on the fury spells Ring of Fire, and Ball Lightning. Now I've known for a long time just how useless these spells are, since they fell out of my spell rotations a long time ago, but today illustrated just how useless they actually are. I am going to copy/paste my post from the other board here, since it's quite apparent no Devs bother reading the class posts any longer.

I doubt any revamping will be done to these things, since they've been terrible for years, whined about for years, and ignored for years by the devs, who would rather make tanks into dps and other useless things, than actually fix broken abilities.

Pardon the bitterness, but I've been playing this game since Day 3 of original release, and I see more and more proof of the fact that the people whose bills we play have less interest or possibly less time to work on things that players actually think are important, due to workforce cuts and such.

Post copied from here down.

As a matter of fact, let me post parses of all our AoEs being cast one time, no spell multis, no temp buffs, nothing, so the difference in the spells becomes apparent.

So, here's a breakdown of what I just posted...

These are in no particular order, so bear with me.

Parse 1:

A single cast of Wrath of Nature allowed to run its full duration, no spell double cast.

Parse 2:

A single AoE autoattack... (Also screwed up and redid this at the bottom of the picture, just ignore that one).

Parse 3:

A single casting of Call of Storms, no spell double attack.

Parse 4:

I just sat there and healed myself to illustrate the point that infusion alone will outdps both pets combined over the same period. Imagine in a group, where you will have anywhere from 6-9 procs at a time, due to pets and such, and multiply that damage by that much.

Parse 5:

33 seconds of casting only Call of storms, auto attack is on.

Parse 6:

A Single casting of Ring of Fire, allowed to run its full duration.

Parse 7:

A single casting of Ball Lightning

Parse 8: A single casting of Starnova...

Parse 9:

A single multiattack, no AoE auto...

Parse 10:

Ignore this one, it's where I screwed up and repasted the AoE auto attack.

Parse 11:

Another single casting of Call of Storms, with one autoattack in the mix.

Parse 12:

Me killing a set of 8 dummies. I opened the fight with RoF+BL so they'd run as long as possible...They both got outdpsed by procs on my gear. Actually, every passive proc I have besides Infusion out-parsed them. The sad thing is that using them to open the fight actually hurt my parse because I could have used that two seconds to be using ANYTHING ELSE.

I think this post illustrates my point that both of these spells are useless quite well...Considering other classes get things like, for instance, just to compare all the Endline spells for healers...(Originally got at level 80)

Templar- Repent, Huge single target ward (As in, our templar gets hits of over 60k with this spell...), reusable every 15 seconds

Inquisitor- Inquisition, AoE HoT to anyone in range.

Warden- Fairy Ally, goes around healing people in raid.

Mystic- Ancestral Sentry, Intercepts some damage for people near it in raid.

Defiler- Death Ward, Single Target ward and damage prevention of 5%?

All that said, I don't mind the fact that the spell isn't a heal, what I do mind is that it is so useless I never have a reason to cast it...ONE group heal cast to proc Infusion does more damage than Ball Lightning over its full duration...plus don't forget that all my parses above were on 8 targets. Only two or three bosses at current endgame that I can even think of have linked trash with 8+ mobs, so you'll never see the full potential of these useless dumbfires. Only if you pull multiple trash mobs will you have 8 mobs in a group.

Both of these spells need a serious rework to even be worth keeping on the average player's hotbars, that's the gist of my whole post. Making them blue AoEs, and finally setting us up as the premier DPS healer would be one solution. Making one a power proc instead of a damage proc is another solution. The final one I can think of would be to greatly increase their damage output, or enable them to use our stats so they'd have our potency and crit bonus in addition to their base damage. As things stand, they are completely pointless to waste the time casting.

Fix wardens too, that fairy is pretty worthless as is the tree.

An Inquisitors Inquisition spell is just as bad. They are all temp pets, nearly every class has them. Very few are worth even having on your hotbar. Known and ignored issue. Although, I think during SF beta maybe, they were given the same status as a regular spell. They rocked then.

Of the comparisons Repent and Death Ward are the only 2 that are worth anything. No mystic, inquisitor, or warden has ancestral sentry, inquisition, or fairy ally on their hotbar just like no fury has ball lightning, ring of fire, or that other one on their hotbar.

The sad thing is, even if they were AoE immune, Fury dumbfires still wouldn't be worth casting. Don't know if that's the case with the other classes' dumbfires. Seems like when they don't die they might actually be useful, but I don't know, don't have a warden to parse out Fairies, seems none of our inqs cast inquisition so I can't see what kind of healing it would do if it actually stayed up. Only one I've seen lately is the mystic one, and yes, it sucked.

Kind of telling that the only non-useless ones aren't dumbfires, though... For the record, Ring of Fire isn't an endline like the rest, just an ancient teachings spell that has always been terrible. And stop derailing my thread, make your own to talk about the crap you have that sucks SMILEY

Fairy and tree, even if they don't die, are pretty much worthless. Tree heals AoE around it, group only. The fairy only heals the most damaged person in the group, but it's a pitiful heal.

I hope (have been hoping for a while, to no avail) that issues with the holdover stuff from bygone days will be fixed one day. Doubt anyone will be playing by then, but it's a nice thought.

I guess I am just wondering, when was the last time a developer sat down, and hashed things out with players who know more about mechanics in their game than they do. I'm sure it happens once in a long while, but it never seems to be enough.

It would be nice, if there are plans in the works for any fixes, to at least throw us a bone and let the players in on it. Swear it's like I pay the CIA to play EQ2, cause things seem so secretive. Changes to the game with no changelog on the update notes, sweeping changes with little input from the player base, if any. Fixes/changes/add-ons that are obviously 100% about making money (yes it's a company making money, and you want to make more).

I'm not quitting, unless I have to due to real life reasons, but it's saddening that PR is so underwhelming for this game. Open communication would go a long ways toward help squeeze more life from this fading MMO.
