I guess interspersed by all the grumps, I do have a little feedback:

1.  It wouldn't calibrate.  I kept pushing the calibrate button and it would say calibrating, then it would indicate it was still uncalibrated.  I never got my toon's face to move in response to mine.

2.  Voice fonts appear to just raise and lower the pitch of my voice.  Ok I guess but I was hoping for something more.  I was hoping it would alter my voice enough to have a resemblance to the canned Iksar voices the client has always had.  I may play with it a bit -- it certainly isn't annoying or anything -- but I guess I was hoping for more.

So I don't know what the trick is to get it to calibrate.   However, I could take only so much looking at myself before I couldn't stand it anymore so I've put it on the shelf for the time being.  If there's some trick to getting it to calibrate please pass it on.

So for the time being it kind of fizzled with me.  I like the idea though and will give it a go again.

I'm sure some of the grumps infesting this thread will sieze on this to say SoEmote is garbage etc. etc.  That's *can't say what I want to say*.  It just needs more work.  And maybe some hints on gitting it to work well.

Finally, I really really don't need to read someone's fifth post saying they don't like SOEmote.  Ok.  We got that after your first post.  You don't like it.  Now please move on.  How would you like it if I came into a thread about raiding and made post after post saying I don't like to raid?  Thanks.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok I think I found the problem with the calibration.  It couldn't track me when I was wearing glasses.  As soon as I took them off it could track.  Unfortunately, without them I can't play the game so I've turned off mirror me.  I THINK I still have the voice fonts on.

By the way, the voice fonts are so subtle I'll bet that most people hearing someone using them won't be able to tell they're using them if they don't know what that person sounds like without them.

You might want to check out www.soemote.com/guide for some hints. Sounds weird though because i have glasses and it tracks and calibrates for me just fine. Maybe your lighting is too bright?

What, because a red name said so? How often do you see GM's/Devs in the game? It's hard enough to ge them to posta reply in the forums, with people saying, "I'd rather they be working on the game than replying to forum post."

People do not play zoomed in, it's a waste of time, like most SoE idea's and will go the way of the arena and shader 3.0. They have a habit of getting people working on their games that have really bad idea's, don't listen to the community because they think these idea's are cool and fall short time after time.

The time wasted on this could have been better spent with itemization, or fixing battlegrounds so people arent spectators, or balancing, or fixing potency in pvp, or fixing VC, or chat lag, or a number of different things. There's going to be a couple people standing around making faces at each other, after that, none.

Like I said before, if you want something better, you have to pay for it:

http://mp3-player.audio4fun.com/fre...io-software.htm

They have free to try software and the better ones are at the top which you have to pay for to get all the features.

Creative Labs, if you have their sound card installed, has a limited selection of voices in the sofware.

You do realize that this feature was also implemented for GM's/Devs to use for controlling npcs and such as well?  And just because you don't like it doesn't mean the entire community hates it.  I have no use for it but I think it's a cool addition and hope people who use it enjoy it.  I like the local channel thing.  I would hope in the future we can get away from text chat channels and move into a full system with voice.  Would be a lot less trolls when talking to one another than typing.  Find typing to be much more "monitor tough guy" worthy than voice.

Not to mention at least SoE is thinking outside the box unlike many developers in the MMO market these days.  And apparently haven't lost sight that it's about the community and multiplayer aspect that makes us play these games and not the "lemme solo and never have interaction" aspect.

I dont know a single peron, past or present who play the game scrolled in its another 5 moment wonder nothing more, though i do accept this is more for the next EQ game.

Absolutely 100% unacceptable for you to turn voice chat on to auto join local voice chat. I had already LONG ago unchecked the box to auto join channels as they become available or whatever the option is, so when VC was finally working and I logged in to find myself in local chat, I was confused. When I found out that the default was for it to be checked not only to make the channel availble but to auto join, I was NOT a happy camper. It should have been an OPTION for everyone, something someone had to turn on intentionally. I can only imagine how many people got harassed by childish people standing in Skyshrine babbling or blasting music in local chat today because everyone was defaulted to have it on and auto joined.

Though it is sad, that they really managed to put in yet another hazzle into playing  Everquest 2, it only fits the profile.

They seem to really not want us to play this anymore...

Bugtesting EQNext stuff on us (we're not only free testers, we're even paying for it ) is what I'm already used to, so there's not even a need to get angry about that, anymore.

Regarding the images of the webcam not being sent - well, while I am willing to believe that this is really what's intended by SOE, I wouldn't be too surprised if something went wrong and we suddenly have our faces on the broker or videos of us uploaded to Youtube (in technical terms this could be possible).

Again, I'm absolutely not accusing SOE of having anything like that planned, but then, it really wouldn't be the first time in the game's (especially latest) history, that a feauture isn't working exactly like intended from the start.

Oh and P.S.:

A Dev or PR guy or whatever, making fun of players with serious concerns and real questions is really alarming in my eyes...

Some people here seem to be very happy that someone is "descending" from the "EQNext test labs" at all, to talk to us. Well, I kinda like to think people doing their jobs is not really something you have to hand them a medal for, especially not if they're doing it sloppy...

You're right, continually and obsessive whining from the community is much better and more effective way of accomplishing things.

Constructive criticism is much better I believe.

Well thanks very much for a 1GB download of crap that I wouldn't have wanted in my wildest dreams, that also ruined the way my characters have looked for 7 years

Enjoying it so far, but the mouth seems to open too far, and the tongue is missing. Apart from that, an excellent addition to the game for us RP'ers. Thanks SMILEY

Um. We like features THAT WORK. If you don't, that's great. Continue to play mostly-broken games forever; however, we expect the basics to be useable when made by professionals.

Exactly what I was about to answer Laenai, thank you. You were a second faster though... ^^

And Salty21, if there were something that actually worked from the second of implementation AND if it were something we really wanted or needed badly, believe me, I'll be the first here on the Forums to post a thank-you thread.

Also you seem to not be very clear on the terms "criticism" and "whining", maybe you want to look them up again...

And to answer your question: I don't play this game. I only log in for raiding times, though even raiding is very very broken. The reason is my community, the people I'm in TS with during raids and so on.

It has absolutely nothing to do with this broken game nor the abysmal support for it.

Thanks for the link.  I'd missed that.

It could indeed be the lighting in combination with the glasses.  I'll play around with it tonight when I get home.

Much appreciated!

I've decided to give it a try for a sarnak and see how it's going to look likeSMILEY I have to agree with few posters here. Too much negative emotions here from community. I bet it offended devs a lot. This kind of negative posting hard to call it feedback can really discourage devs to say anything to us at all.

I'm sorry, I don't really care one way or the other about SoEmo.

However pushing this update with broken UI elements was just really poorly done.

Honestly, if it discourages them from working on fluff like this when there are many pressing issues, AND "non-functional"/paritally functional mechanics such as DF, then I believe it to be a good thing.

So, you say "those devs" don't work on things like that. Well, SOE has a budget of X dollars which equates to Y man hours. They need to balance the workforce with what is needed for the game and not balance what is developed for the game around "who is available to do something."

This is absolutely not a knock on the developers. Some are, particularly TTobey, good at their jobs, and good at communicating. This is a management issue. If you have more animation/quest/event developers than they have legitimate work to do then the MANAGEMENT answer is not to find something for them to do, but to re-balance the development force around glaring issues that need to be fixed.

Feedback, even when it's negative, is still feedback.  The opinions of those who do not in any way, shape, or form like this new "feature" are just as important as those who think it's the greatest thing ever.  And honestly, if the devs can't take a bit of "negative" feedback, then their skin is just a little too thin to be working in their chosen field.  SMILEY

That's the problem guys. Calling this feature a crap as i saw in many posts here is not a feedback and this is the last thing I am going to say in this thread.

Good grief they're not being banned.  Stop making stuff up.  Although in my opinion some people have crossed the line.  Considering all the unjustified slants on the devs I've seen on this board I don't see how you can say that.

Negative feedback the first time is just negative feedback and it's probably good that they see it.  When you've said it 5 or 10 times in the same thread then you're just being an annoying spammer.

The next time there's a thread related to raiding I wonder how they'd like it if I made post after post saying that SoE was devoting far too much effort to supporting raiding, which so few people do regularly.

The fact of the matter is that fluff has ALWAYS been a part of EQ2.  There was housing and there were house items from day 1.  I had the newbie apartment within an hour of leaving Isle of Refuge on my first character a few days after release.  For the big release you could pay extra for a collector's edition which would give you an in-game baby dragon house pet.  A surprisingly large number of people put up the extra money.  You could say that the awesome graphics of EQ2 are also fluff as you certainly don't need it to go out and kill stuff.  Voiceovers certainly aren't needed, so would count as fluff, yet the game, when released had pretty much 100% voiceovers for all NPC dialog.  SOEmote is simply continuing in the tradition of including a certain amount of fluff in the game.

"Feedback" does not simply mean 'attaboys'.  Sometimes it also means 'ya done goofed', such as when, y'know, ya done goofed.

If a new feature is poorly implemented, adds nothing to most people's play experience, and breaks other things in the game, that's legitimate feedback.  Telling people they shouldn't give legit feedback that happens to be more criticism than praise does absolutely nobody any favors; if the majority of feedback is of a critical variety, that in and of itself is feedback.

Please, the devs are big boys and girls.  If they couldn't handle this, they wouldn't be here.

Hi everyone,

Since the focus of this thread was how to enable/disable SOEmote and that question has been answered, I'm locking this thread before it gets too off topic.

If you have other feedback about SOEmote in general, I'd encourage you to consider posting in our official feedback thread, found here: http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=521118

Thanks!
