We are excited to announce a new in-game item coming to EverQuest, EverQuest II, and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes – KRONO! Here are some questions and answers to get you familiar with this new object.

Q. What are Krono?

A. Krono are in-game objects that can be redeemed for 30 days of membership time in the following SOE games:  EverQuest, EverQuest II, and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. They are sold in the marketplace for real money only, or they may be purchased from other players via the broker or private trade for in-game currency.  Players may not, however, sell Krono to each other for real world money.

Q. What can you do with them?

A. You can buy them from SOE using real money, buy them from other players using in-game currency, gift them, sell them to other players for in-game currency, trade them to other players for other in-game items, and consume them. If you consume a Krono, it is removed from your inventory and 30 days of game membership time is added to the account associated with the character that consumed it.

Q. How can I acquire them?

A. You can buy a new Krono from SOE for US $17.99 or less. Players can also gift Krono to other players, trade them, and sell them for in-game currency.

Q. Wait, does that mean I’m getting a membership for free?

A.  It depends.  All Krono are initially purchased from SOE using real world money.  After a Krono is purchased, it may be freely gifted, traded, or sold for in-game currency to other players.  If another player gifts a Krono to you, then yes, you are effectively getting an item for free that can be redeemed for 30 days of game membership time.  However, somebody previously paid real world money for that Krono.

Q: Why would I buy a Krono?

A: There are many reasons to buy Krono.  For example, if you’re a veteran player with a lot of in-game currency, but not a lot to spend it on, you can use that extra currency to buy Krono from other players and turn it into game membership time. Alternatively, if you’re a player without much in-game currency and can’t buy things on the broker because prices are too high, you can consider buying Krono and selling them to other players to build up your in-game currency.  You can also treat Krono as in-game commodities, and build up your in-game currency by buying and selling them on the broker for a profit.

Q. Does this replace any existing payment methods?

A. No. Krono are not a payment method.  They are in-game items that can be purchased from SOE for US $.  The introduction of Krono into the games will not replace any existing methods for buying game membership time. 

Q. Can I trade them between characters?

A. Yes, they may be transferred and traded between characters using the trading window, shared bank slots, and in-game mail.

Q. How can I sell them for in-game currency?

A. Depending on which game you are playing, you can trade them in person to another player, post them for sale on the broker, advertise them in chat channels, sell them in the bazaar, etc.  Please note, however, that players may not sell Krono for real world money.

Q. Do they expire?

A. No, Krono do not expire.

Q. Is this a permanent part of the game?

A. Not yet.  Initially, we will release Krono as a trial program. We will watch to see how they are embraced and used. If the trial is successful, we will continue the program and roll them out to new games.

Q. Are Krono transferable between games?

A. No. Once a Krono has entered a game, it is now a part of that game and cannot be moved to a different game. However, prior to claiming a Krono in a participating game you can choose which game to apply your Krono.

Q. Are they refundable?

A. No.

Q. Do Krono work for game memberships as well as All Access memberships?

A. Yes. When a Krono is consumed, it will add 30 days of game membership time to the account associated with the character that consumed it.  If that account has an existing All Access membership, the All Access membership will be extended by 30 days.  If the account has a regular game membership, that membership will be extended by 30 days.  If the account has no current membership, then 30 days of regular game membership time will be added to the account.   

Q. How exactly does the Krono work?

A. You consume the Krono much like you would drink a potion.

Q. Is there a limit to how many Krono I can purchase each day?

A. You can purchase up to 25 Krono per day – either all at once or in separate transactions.

What I would like to know is that, if these kronos grant you everything of a full membership for a month, which currently costs $14.99/m then why do these kronos cost $3 more? Should they not cost the same? Granted they can be traded in game but who is going to pay more than what a months subscription is worth initially? Even if they are going to trade it or sell it I highly doubt anyone will trade them for more or even equal what they are worth. It's an interesting idea for people who don't have a lot of money irl to be able to trade/buy them from palyers in game for game time but the player who pays the real money for the krono to begin with is getting scammed and paying mroe than what a month's subscription is worth. If this is going to be successful and go anywhere the price needs to match the same as a month's subscription cost, which is $14.99, and to reiterate, the kronos cost $3 more.

This is not a complaint or arguement or harassment or anything. it's meant as a valid question. Why do they cost more when a on month's subscription is less? You get no additional benefit for paying more for it.

Of course the other concern is if, somehow on the once in a blue moon chance it succeeds, even with them costing more, and this does take off, how will it affect the in game economy? SC already damaged the in game economy when it was introduced, and it's never balanced out. Heck, even BEFORE SC the games economy was out of balance! How will this make it better? In short, I fear it won't, it has a fair chance of it not affecting the game's economy at all, but it has an equal chance ofn making the game's economy worse, and a 0% chance of it fixing or making it better.

In short, we will see how this runs, but please, to the SoE staff at the top who set the pricing scale, please re-evaluate this, why does it cost MORE when essentially it is the SAME thing and should cost the SAME?

I love the idea of Krono and can't wait. 

It's great that SOE have seen a way to bridge the gap between new players hitting cap broke and gearless and the vet players sitting on stacks of pointless plat. 

I'd also like to see the following available for Krono:

  • Server Transfer Tokens 
  • Expansions/Adventure Packs
  • Freeblood Race
  • SC top-up packs.

This addition will allow SOE to increase revenue from people in parts of the world uable to use the murky SC code for cash system, and hopefully stimulate an increase in population.

Wlil chrono be redeemable for station cash? Otherwise, there will still be a huge market for people selling station cash cards and plat farming/selling.

I don't see why they wouldn't be.. it just seems like a much better system than physical cards and codes.

Krono are redeemable for All Access, which costs $17.99/mo.  That is why they are $17.99.  They wanted Krono to be usable by all players, and they didn't want an exploit for All Access members to buy discounted membership.  They could have gone to a more modular form of currency, say a $5 token called Krono500, which could be redeemed for SC or membership with 3 for Gold and 4 for All Access, but I'm pretty sure they didn't want to make it that complicated.

All access is what I have. I pay $14.99/m. So where the $17.99/m figure comes from I have no idea. I have always paid $14.99/m even before they introduced the f2p model back when there were only one set of live servers before they split them to into eq2 and eq2 extended, and subsequently merged them again for the current f2p model. It has always been $14.99/m so again, the $17.99/m figure does not make any sense.

Gold/All access is even as listed on the site here : http://www.everquest2.com/free as priced at $14.99/m. Where is the $17.99/m coming from?

The problem is that you don't know what all access is.

You needn't be rude about it. I am not one to not admidt when I am wrong. In this case it seems I was, due to a misunderstanding on my part. I was simply trying to understand with my post the price difference of something that appeared to be the same to me. It is obvious to me now that they are two different things. No need to be so blunt.

It doesn't make sense for all access to not be posted with the other EQ2 subscriptions, hence part of the source of my confusion. It should be listed next to Gold membership on that page, but it is not. Also if you look under Gold is says in several places "Full access" so you can see where the rest of my confusion comes from and why there was a misunderstanding.

Sorry for the confusion, but I do appreciate the clarification. At least, perhaps this may serve to clairfy for other who may ahve been confused in the same manner as I.

If you had actually read my entire post and thought about it rather than wanting to rave about how you already had "all access", then you would have gotten an inkling that All Access and Gold are two different things, since I mentioned them as separate.  The only rude person in this thread is you, who is getting all bent out of shape and posting an uninformed reply to a post you didn't read.
