A late launch (by a few mins at this point in time) is not a failed launch. If you played Anarchy Online when it launched then you'd know all about failed launches ..

SF was the only expansion in which the servers came up before the estimated time, so I'm not sure what the suprise is....

However good this expansion is, its never gonna live up to the amount of excitement I've got built up from waiting for the servers.  LOL When they stop being locked my heart is gonna leap out of my chest I think.

Actualy "a few minutes" is an hour ago. 9 PST was their time, it's now 10:07 PST.

What do you mean a few minutes? It's over an hour.

I would argue that we have all at least bought an EST. We all paid money for this expansion, and I'd imagine a decent number of us purchased the collector's edition. SOE made millions this morning off of it's community and I'd say the very least they owe us is a basic explanation of what's gone wrong and a time estimate for having the servers back up.

I don't mind the waiting, it's the not knowing why or for how much longer.

Well...launches always have at least one "gotcha" in them to make sure we're awake and paying attention, I suppose.

We've got a missing asset issue that we're troubleshooting right now. The gates will open as soon as we get it resolved.

More soon!

I actually have had this thought before, and have posted it on similar threads in the past: We know Quality Assurance is an important part of the launch. Why not build in two hours of QA to the launch schedule? What's the worst that happens? It's flawless and you get to launch live early?

My "complaint" is more about realistic management timeframes. If I'm going to have a program at work in place by 10, but I'm not ready to "go live" to my staff until noon, I don't tell them 10... I tell them noon. It's a matter of human capital management: people aren't logical. They're psychological.

I concur. Given it has now reached 70min over the advertised server-up time, some indication of a new ETA would be good.  I assume something didn't work quite as planned, and some info would be nice.  Its 6pm where I am and my evening of playing is shortening all the time, want to know when I can start!

Addendum: Whilst posting this some info about a "lost asset" finally appeared.  Try down the back of the sofa?

Back at my desk now.

We talked about the delay on the webcast, and I wasn't able to update the forums while I was hosting it. SMILEY We've got some issues with the ability to launch the game, so that's what's being worked out right now. As soon as they get it fixed, we'll open the floodgates.

Needless to say, there are people running around like mad upstairs right now.

Delay in a large patch or an expansion is not a fail.

Not updating the estimated time after you know you won't meet it is a fail.

Lets face it, when the servers finally come up they are prob going to go straight back down again due to so many people all rushing to the new zones at once. I speak from past experience....

Well as problems go, failing to launch is kind of a 100% total fail really....Now onto armpit hair rope making...

After a hard drive crash last month I recently reinstalled the Station Launcher.  I kept getting an error but it eventually downloaded.  However, it would not let me play.  So, I have been playing the last two weeks by selecting the eq2.exe in my EQ2 folder...no problems.  When I try and open it today (I pre-ordered and it shows I have it) I am told I have an old client and have to exit.  I do not want to have to wait HOURS for the Station Launcher to download again.  Anyone know a way around this?  What is the old patcher I keep seeing reference to?  Thanks in advance!

Try running the EQ2 maps updater with the auto launcher turned on it will do the update and give you the old launcher, had to do that on my laptop this morning.  EDIT:  I have been having the same problems with the launcher for a about a week now that everyone is complaining about.  the Retry in 5 seconds.  Close the laucher run the EQ2maps updater with the auto launch eq2 checked it will give you the old laucher and it WILL update.

Getting very irritated...the game will not launch from the EQ2 Maps Updater...when i do it manually I get the same problem.
