Hi, I'm about to start up a Druid as a new player in EQII and the choice stands between theese two. I played a Shaman (amongst other things) in EQ1 and grew very fond of it. Although none of the druids seem to be like the old EQ1 Shaman I'd appriciate something that resembles it, although a little more melee wouldn't hurt. How would you say that the Defiler and Warden classes stand in comparison? How do they compare to eachother in terms of solo play (grinding to 80, I figured I  cba with low tiered PvP) and what's the demand fo r the classes later on (@ Naggy)?  - I s'pose Fury could be an option aswell, so if you have any input on thoose that'd be appriciated aswell.Regards, Sajt

per your request in the warden forums, I'll post here. Sorry folks, just doing as asked. My opinion, too many druids. Make a defiler.

Posting here by request, as well (he posted on the Warden forums asking us to come here to post to avoid double posting..)

As you are new to the game, and might not know very many people yet - you might choose Warden as your first healer.  Both Warden and Defiler are excellent healers for different reasons.  No one, however, will disagree that Defiler is difficult to level solo - if you don't have a group fairly often.  If you don't have a group - therefore no one to heal for - a Defiler is missing about 3/4s of what they can do, and is slooow leveling to boot.   Wardens solo a bit easier.

My advice:  Start with a Warden, play it for awhile and when alt-itis strikes you, roll your Defiler.  You'll have a better idea of game mechanics and where everything works.  You also may have found a regular group or guild that will make leveling Defiler a bit easier.

No reason you can't have both.

Avielle - 72 Warden (AB) Ariel 70 Warden (Venekor); Tarah, 70 Defiler (Venekor)

Demand on Naggy , defiler probably more however I see a lot of defilers these days.

Wardens are much more rounded chars in my opinion, getting decent DPS from a defiler is very very difficult (others may disagree)

Cast times suck and tbh limit Defilers a bit too much to the point where it is almost not worth casting the group ward at all these days (post heal reductions).

Raiding tho I believe defilers are still king and I throw out some awesome healing in the MT group even with Sgi/Int spec.

If you are on a PvP server .. Play a warden

Nothing but frustration being a defiler

cast times are too long to be on any use to anyone ..

ona 3.6 secont cast .. when you get interupted 1/2 way thru twice. then cast

that was 7.2 seconds to ward for 3000

in that time 1/2 your group died..

If it were impossible to interupt a defiler .. and i mean impossible .. they may stand a chance on PvP

But best yo can hope for as a defiler .. is to be second healer in a PvP grp

Yo will be slow to get tokens .. becasue you cant kill well in anything less than a full group .

You will be last to get PvP gear which you will need more than all of the druids sk's scouts .. who will be killing you with full sets long before you see your first piece.

All of the well known groups who dominate PvP .. never have a defiler in the group .. all of them have druids....
