Just a tip, when your pet and the mob start running around like they are dancing, hit Back Off, Then Attack. I have tested it and it works.-26 ConjOasis

Yeah it does work, I tried "back off" then " root". That takes longer, so I tried "Back off" then "Attack much faster. I thought it was just me.

it doesnt always work, but it does most the time, sometimes you have to spam it a few times to get the pet/mob to stop dancing. You use it a few times and youll get the hang of it.

Works for me 90 percent of the time, but sometimes have to do it a few times to get them to stop dancing.  I also use Pet Guard Here, then aggro mobs, drag them back, then sick the pet on them right before they reach where the pet is, that works too.

What is called pet dancing in EQ2 is a well known mob/pet AI interaction that occurs in several games. It's usually a combination of weapon range and 'close to battle' code but can also be strongly affected by network latency and system lag (depending upon the distribution between client and server) and landscape (since 'close to battle' is related to pathing.

With that in mind, hitting backoff/attack would probably help matters, as it would essentially break the loop that causes dancing and then re-engage from a very short rabge making range/"close to battle" interactions negligible.

Good thinking btw. SMILEY

Pet handling is definitely different in EQ2 than in EQ1. One thing is you can't do is "stack" the pet's hate-list (i.e. target multiple mobs and click "Attack" on each one). Doing this causes the pet to immediately attack the new target. Here are the problems I've had, related to the solutions offered here:Chain: Will temporarily stop the problem...BUT...creates another problem -- it won't last long enough for the pet to out-aggro the chain spell...so when chains break, you will get slammed.Back off: Doesn't work. When the pet starts to back off the mob, it gets hit again and re-engages. If it moves at all, it's very little. It may stop dancing around, which is fine, but if it already ran too far away and there's other instant-aggro mobs along the way, the pet is on his own.Pull with Static Pulse: This works for me, but I can't do it with whites or yellows because they are simply too strong for my paper armor. One thing I found works fairly well is to find a low-level mob and hit it (while the pet is dancing around with the other mob). As soon as the other starts attacking you, "pet loyalty" takes over and it will run to your aid and bring the original monster with it, ignoring its attacks. This brings the original mob to you with the pet. Just make sure you find a gray mob as your second hit to avoid too much damage.
