If this trend keeps up, this will more than likely be the last SoE vegas event I will attend.....

Note, these costs are both for NORTH tower deluxe rooms

2011

Rates Per Room*

Wed 7/06/2011------$70.00 USD Thu  7/07/2011------$70.00 USD Fri    7/08/2011------$95.00 USD Sat  7/09/2011------$95.00 USD

Total 330.00

2012

Rates Per Room*

Wed 10/17/2012------$110.00 USD Thu   10/18/2012------$110.00 USD Fri     10/19/2012------$160.00 USD Sat    10/20/2012------$160.00 USD

Total 540.00

These prices were before Taxes.

Thats $200 less I will have to spend at the event = (  I really don't know why south tower rooms would be negotiated for the convention when the North tower rooms are right next to the convention area.

I may be wrong, but I believe that October is a more active time in Vegas than the middle of summer; so more demand == higher prices. The South Tower is also the older tower IIRC, which is what the hotel tends to let go for cheaper since they want to sell the upgrades. (They also want you walking through the Casino areas to your destination for the lure effects too). Once you're on site you can often ask for the North Tower instead, but it doesn't always work. Even if you don't gamble, you should get a Players Club card and use that when you register and when you buy meals and such. It can be good for discounts that can often beat SOE's negotiated rates. The card shows that you are a repeat visitor which is one of the things they are after after all.

There are other places to stay besides Ballys that cost less. I know many want to stay in the same Hotel as the FF...but it dosent seem like you can get a decent price.

Try staying right next door at Bills gambling hall...Much smaller casino, but they want your buisness just as much. Its a 5 minute walk from your room to the strip.I just stayed there from 6-13-2012 to 6-19-2012. I had a luxury room...it was clean and roomy like Ballys...I could lay in my bed and watch the Bellagio fountains.I had a much better view than I got in Ballys. Its a very short walk from Bills to Ballys...like 10 minutes top! And unlike Ballys...Bills has a 24 hour restraunt...you can get good food for a decent price. I got steak and eggs and tators and toast for 8.99...or 3 eggs meat tators and toast for 4.99...You cant get that at ballys.

I know SOE wants you to stay at Ballys...but when you are tight on money...you have to look around.I dont understand why Ballys cant give a better deal.God knows we pay enough to get there.

So to stay at Bills from 10-17-12  to 10-21-2012 in a classic room will cost $439.75

wed17=54.95 Thur18=54.95 Fri19=139.95 Sat20=139.95 Sun21=49.95...= $439.75

If you want the best view that you be a luxury room at Bills costing $539.75 from 10-17-2012 thru 10-21-2012.

I had had no issues with Bills...they have 2 dollar margritas..3 dollar beers...its a small walk out the door up the esclator and down and over to Ballys...

I know lots dont ever leave the host hotel...but I sure do...lots to do and not alot of time to do it in.There are deals to be found...just take the time to look.I remember when we had the FF at the Rio...they wanted $149.95 a night...too rich for me...I stayed across the street at Gold coast for 35-55 dollars a night and still had a great time. You gotta make it work for you!

I wont be attending the FF this year...just not a good time with kids in school and all..I will miss it after being at 7 in a row but...what can ya do. I will be intrested in how many people show this year tho!

The North Tower rooms are, of course, more desirable. Las Vegas is starting to recover and so hotels are getting every nickel they can by upcharging on certain rooms, extras, etc. You could book in the South Tower and take your chances that there will be some North Tower rooms will be available. I am guessing for accessibility reasons you would prefer the North Tower?

The negotiated pricing in the South Tower at Bally's are such:

  • Monday, October 15th: $80
  • Tuesday, October 16th: $80
  • Wednesday, October 17th: $80
  • Thursday, October 18th: $80
  • Friday, October 19th: $130
  • Saturday, October 20th: $130
  • Sunday, October 21st: $80
  • Monday, October 22nd: $80

For Wednesday-Saturday that works out to $420 or about the same as Bill's. The first year I stayed at Imperial Palace (What a dump!) just to save some money. The extra cost on the monorail and extra time spent traveling to and from the event was not worth the savings.

I will certainly keep Bill's in mind for food options though. Bally's and Paris pricing are absurd. A coffee and croissant at the little breakfast place is like $10. Any other food recommendations would be appreciated. I got tired of shoveling down Sbarro in Bally's basement. It was poor-to-fair at best.

For Food recomendations, I'd advise going out to the Strip. If you head up strip (towards the MGM), there's a Denny's by the Coke/M&M store/complex that has normal prices for food and wasn't normally very busy. (There's another one down past Venice as well IIRC, but I've never gone to that one) In either direction you'll find a McD's of various sorts too. In fact just about every chain has a restaurant somewhere along the strip, usually charging the normal prices you'd expect. If you want snacks for your room and what not, there are Walgreens and CVS's usually only a casino or two away from Balley's in either direction; load up on drinks and get ice from the ice machines. The ABC stores usually have reasonable prices too, and there are two located in the mall attached to the Planet Hollywood Casino next to Paris. If you want fresher food, you can catch the Ace or Deuce going up the strip (away from Freemont street); they'll go by the mall on the way to the Outlet mall that has Fry's and Borders and a Whole Foods for fresh groceries (at Whole Foods prices of course).

For food deals all you need to do is look around. Victorian room at Bills has good food for decent prices and is open 24/7. Ellis Island just a few blocks down from Ballys has a great menu with good prices, and they offer lots of specials. If you'r willing to walk a little farther....between the M&M store and the Grand canyon souviner store there is a food court with almost at home prices...They have a wendys...panda express...subway...dairy queen...and a few other places to eat.

If you'r buying beer in Ballys...dont order from the bars....go to the store they have in there or the small spot close to the south tower. You can get a beer for under 3 dollars by doing this...if you order from the bar you'll be paying 6.50 for a beer.Dont count on sitting at a machine to get a free drink....the waitress take over 30 minutes to get back with your "free" drink.

Getting a small cooler and buying some snacks is the way to go.I went to a Vonns and got some food to keep in my room...bread lunchmeat...chips...donuts..bananas ect. Also bought some beer and booze which saved alot of money. Just bring or buy a nice size cup...you make a nice sized drink before you leave your room.

I forgot Nathan's in Ballys. They have good burgers and the best fries ever.Easy to find buy 1 get 1 free coupons on line.

FYI

Don't use the SOE code rate.  Book directly with the hotel online with the 25% off promotion.  SOE rates are higher then the rates on the published website for Avg Joe.  It was this way last year too.

Wow, that is high.  My past experience was to book myself and save.

Back in '08 when FanFaire was at the Hilton, I stayed in some little place between the Riviera and Hilton and think the rate was like $50 a night.  The room was very clean and the walk was short (thru the well air conditioned Riviera).

I'm sure in '09 at Ballys, it was much cheaper reserving myself + I had a great view of the Belagio water show!

Get a Players Card if you do any gambling while there. We only go once or sometimes twice a year and haven't paid for a room since the '04 FanFaire even with how little we gamble. Or if you know somebody with a card they can get you cheaper rates on rooms.

Also for good cheap food on the street behind Bally's is Ellis Island Casino and Brewery right next to the Super 8. Food is cheap and I think pints fo beer is $1.75. And on your walk back stop by a store OTW back for liquor, snacks and cheap bottled water for your room.

as a frequent LV visitor i like to stay at some of the older hotels that have been renovated.  The riviera just reopened and is offering deluxe rooms (not classic) for a total of $214.00 for a 4 night stay. (coming in on wednesday).   I am sight impaired and can still get anywhere on the strip by just standing at the curb under a bus stop sign.  actually takes less time than grabbing a cab and negotiating all the traffic.  And if you cant eat well in LV for under $30 a day, you just arent trying very hard.

have fun, see you there

If you waited til the last minute (*waves*), the North Tower and South Tower are now the same price, at least for Thursday-Saturday.
