So here is a spell that rarely gets mentioned in forums ever . People for the most part have given up on it and dont even talk about , they have forgotten it because it is not even on their hotbar . Yet in this day and age where most groups want chanters or bards because most chanters can match or come v close to our dps but save wipes because of their capacity to mez whole groups of adds and still dps I wonder why the self mez component of this spell hasnt been removed by this point . No self respecting wiz wants to stand there mezzed himself thoughout one of these new tier 9 fights where every bit of dps is needed to even have a long shot at finishing the battle .

Please consider making this a viable spell we can put back on our hotbar and increase our group desirability even if we must sink some AA into it somehow if you wont just change its definition .

I had heard that the self-mez was supposed to be removed, but alas....

I completely agree with the OP on this. I mean, REALLY now! This has to be the most pointless spell wizards get. I've never used Aurora, it makes absolutely no sense.

Even bruisers get a mez! And it works! And they don't get mezzed as a by-product.

Actually I have found this spell to be very usefully in pvp and in soloing very tough mobs. Think of this spell as a time out. It gives you a few seconds of safe time while you wait for a root or a big nuke to be available to cast.

The debate isn't whether its a situational spell or not, we all know it is, its more that our mez is the joke of every other class who has one. EVERY other class with a mez laughs when they mez a wizzy and then blow his head off with nukes because they KNOW that the wizard on the other end is raving mad behind his monitor because he is completely incapable of doing the same thing... The problem being is that wizards, by retorical nature, should be better at that exact thing than every other class minus coercers, because that's the basis for their class. (I don't count Illusionist because their name implies the use of illusions, which means to me "swarm of imaginary pets or terrain to mess with the enemy".

I play a wizard on the PvP server, and I love this spell. Don't change a thing.

First before I say anything let me say that I wish that the spell would be changed,

Yet I see a use for it, your group did not get a hold of an Illy and you have many mobs around you, you could cast some of your DOTs and then mess it that means that it is mezzed its taking dmg and it means you are doing something (techanly).

It has always been used by wizards soloing stuff a lot bigger than they are, particularly caster mobs.

If you've not used it,  you're probably not soloing, or not soloing anything tougher than yard trash.

There's a whole army of people who will announce knowingly that wizards can't solo really tough casters.

Top end wizards don't bother to argue.   They just kill the mob and move on.    Aurora is always on their hotbar for those fights.

It's used to keep the caster mobs silenced while your big stuff comes back up.  You don't care that you're mezzed, you have nothing to do anyway but wait.

Having a mob rooted keeps it from melee killing you,  dotting it breaks the root, so you have limited ways to kill a hefty Named melee mob.    Patience is the key.  Now add that if it's a caster, rooting does nothing to prevent it killing you.

Use the mezz to cover the dead time, while waiting on the big bangers to come back  up.   You also do your own natural health recovery over time while mezzed, so you can use it as a "time out" when the fight has gone more south than you can stand.

Those that feel they are soloing big caster stuff w/o using Aurora just don't understand the definition of big.  If it can be CC'd, it can be killed by a wizard, regardless of how big, or how bad azz a caster it it.

Im pretty sure I know the definition of Big.   Also everything you posted can be done without touching aurora at all usually, simply by using the terrain.

But I wouldnt change anything about the spell tbh, we get off rather easy when it come to dumb stuff that has no point.

You really have no idea what you are talking about do you? This spell does nothing to help the wizard against the really tough mobs other than allow a small amount of time to combat regen. Wizard stiffles and stuns are way more useful and what is needed for caster mobs

Sacdaddy has it right, there are many other classes who have more useless stuff than we do for spells. I would like to see it changed as well but in truth it is way down the list.

Dont see us really as a soloing class too much since we need other classes to make us twice what we are this is a grouping game and zones are implemented and designed not to be soloable . What I am saying is if we could mez and not be mezzed we may be viable for some groups that are always looking for a mezzer because it can benefit many different mibs depending on the strat needed . Just remove us being mezzed is all . By now most everyones spells have been improved over time in some fashion but this one is as crappy as it ever has been , fix it .

NO.

Top end solo wizards kill the tough caster mobs without needing to use this spell, and then move on even faster.

This spell is marginally useful in PvP, but I see no reason for wizards to be the only class in the game with a PvP only spell. Add something remotly useful to it for PvE, or just remove teh self mezz.

Its used a lot in lower level PVP (50s and 60s)

You use it on classes like paladins while your ice comet recharges so they can't heal, or run away, then soon as it breaks you throw a storming tempest on them and another ice comet and they are dead.

Yeah, marginally useful in PvP.

But again, why should this be the only PvP only spell in the game?

Since it does have its uses, I wouldn't want to see it totally changed, just made useful in PvE. Maybe a power drain on it, or a position decrease when it terminates or something (would make it even more useful in PvP).

TBH, i'd totally go buy the master and hotbar that in bar 1 key 1 if they made it light the mob on fire and made the mob emote "I am on fiyah! Zomg". That'd be the most useful spell in the entire game imo.
