Still new to the whole warden CA thing.  And i'm wondering what exactly affects CA damage?  Is it increased by str alone?  Or does the type of weapon you have equiped affect the damage potential?  ie. would a 50-90 damage weapon do more than a 30-70 per CA hit?

just str; the reason you want a better weapon though is because 1) it'll help you hit the mobs and 2) a lot of your damage is going ot come from auto-attacks in between CAs so the harder your weapon hits, the more damage you'll do while you wait for recasts.

Weapon is almost more important then str.  The way meleeing works is you start with the base damage of your weapon.  You can see the base damage by inspecting the weapon.  After that the bonus for str kicks in.  The more str the more your weapon does over the base damage.  If you can get your str up to about 550 or so, it's 2.8 times the base damage.  So a weapon that does 1-100 becomes 3-280.

There are other bonuses that affect the damage you do like haste and dps mod.  Haste is very important to get.  Haste reduces the delay on the weapon and you see good improvements even with a small amount of haste with the diminishing returns curve.  DPS mod directly goes into the damage the weapon does.  So with the example of 3-280 damage if you're 100% dps moded the damage goes up to 6-560 damage.

This also ties into crits.  Crits make your autoattack damage do 30% more damage with a limit of the max damage +1.  So say in the previous example you have 6-560 damage you crit.  You would normally do 100 damage.  Then the crit kicks in so you do 130 damage, but because of the lower limit you end up doing 561 damage.  So that's an extra 431 damage because of the crit.

If you haven't picked up on it already everything multiplies.  Going from 0 to 100% dps mod actually more then doubles your dps because of the bonus for when you crit.  100% dps mod isn't going to do much for you if your str is low.  Everything except haste multiplies the damage you would do when hitting the mob.  Haste is good too because it increases the amount of procs you'll do per second though.  So if you'll normally proc 2 times per minute you keep the same proc % but swing double the times so you'll proc 4 times per minute so haste actually more then doubles your dps going from 0-100% if you have procs.

If you're talking about CAs though all that affects the damage is str and crits.  When str has the same affect on combat arts as autoattack damage where it increases the base damage.  Crits work differently.  When you crit you hit for 30% more damage with no lower limit so you only get an extra 30% damage.

From all this you can see why some wardens complain about having a melee line.  We have no str buffs and str is key to doing more damage.  You could have 100% dps mod and haste and still do garbage damage if your str isn't high enough.  So grouping with a zerk or shaman is key to doing good damage.

Np, I learned a lot from playing my brigand now that I'm so unhappy with the direction wardens have gone.
