Hi all,

I built my new machine last night and I started the install on the game this morning before going to work.  I figured I'd let the game do the updates while I'm not home.

Anyway, my question is the install wanted to add direct X 9.0c, but I cancelled it.  I am running a fresh install on a new build with Vista Home Premium.  So do I install 9.0c or will ver 10 (assuming that's what Vista installed) work?

 Thanks,

Jiwi

Vista comes with a version of DirectX 9 called "9.0L" --  however it's not as complete as 9.0c, so many games will give you a missing file error (d3dx9_##.dll). Simply running dxwebsetup will install the missing files without damaging your Vista installation in any way.

Thanks!  That's exactly the information I was looking for.

I am running Vista Ultimate (64 Bit)and it comes with DirectX 10 I have found on alot of my games the d3dx9_##.dll file is missing workaround I have found so far was to go to http://www.dll-files.com/ and download the .dll file you are missing and just put it in the game directory (worked for eq1 and Vanguard) I never got a .dll error for eq2 snipit from my dxdiag Operating System: Windows Vista™ Ultimate (6.0, Build 6000) (6000.vista_rtm.061101-2205) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: System manufacturer System Model: System Product Name BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+ (2 CPUs), ~2.6GHz Memory: 4094MB RAM Page File: 3234MB used, 716MB available Windows Dir: C:Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 10 DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 6.00.6000.16386 64bit Unicode Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX Manufacturer: NVIDIA Chip type: GeForce 8800 GTX DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC Device Key: EnumPCIVEN_10DE&DEV_0191&SUBSYS_82331043&REV_A2 Display Memory: 1500 MB Dedicated Memory: 732 MB Shared Memory: 767 MB

Actually you can just go to www.microsoft.com/directx and download the latest dxwebsetup listed there for directx9, then run it. it will not harm the vista installation at all and will place the required optional directx dll files in the correct system directroy on vista so there are not other issues down the line when those files are updated by Microsoft. The support for directx 9 is not going away very soon in Vista for the simple fact DX10 is the first version of directx that is not backwards compatible with any previous version of directx., miscrosoft will continue to make the dx upgrade patches compatible for Vista for a while yet.  Have done this method of updated for missing modules in driectx 9ex since before the first release of the CPP version of Vista.
