I also agree with others here regarding kids/school.  I guess the October choice is best for me--at least that gives the kids a couple months to settle into the school routine first, instead of monkeyhumping their brand-new schedule before it has a chance to normalize.

ROFL Gray! I'm thinking Oct too. The only thing that makes me sad is that it's such a LONG TIME AWAY!! But I'll be there regardless of the dates. This year's was a blast and SoE takes too much guff from folks about *doing it wrong & /fail*. I think the Fan Faire Team does an extraordinary job putting together this event every year and needs to be applauded for their efforts. I know my EQ buddies and I always have more fun than should be legal at FF and that is partly due to the terrific job by SoE. I have to give my friends credit for making Fan Faire a joy to attend and thanks to Sony, we have a place to gather every year and enjoy each other.

As for Pool Party...wear a sweater!!

I don't see why people still complain about not having an East Coast FF.  It has already been stated that it is more cost effective all around to have it at Vegas.  Get over it.

Yes the dates are not that appealing, especially to students and parents with kids that can't pawn the kids off on relatives because it is not the summer time, and I do wish they would get a long term contract worked out with favorible dates but this is what it is.  Don't like it, don't go.

Should do one of the september dates though, typically mid october is when everyone has midterms.

I voted for the earliest date in September so that Fan Faire would come sooner. :3 Really though, any of the dates will work for me. Having over a year to prepare helps being able to ask for time off...I hope! I can't wait for Fan Faire 2012!!!

I have gone the last 3 years but only because it was during the summer.  I live in VA and the only way I've been able to attend is to fly my son and I to CA so my mom can watch him and then I drive to Vegas.  I really think by changing the dates, the biggest cost savings will be in the number of people who can not participate.  Essentially, this change has alienated many parents, students and teachers.

I can't enter any dates which is a huge disappointment.

If there is any possibility of changing the dates, I hope you would be willing to reconsider.

AH this is great news.  Being one of the low men on the totem poll at work, I can not take any vacation time from may-august.  Looks like the wife and i will finally get to go.

Oh, I have to drive 360 miles to drop the kids at my Mom's, then stay over night and spend 12 hours in airport-hopping.  So it's two days just to get there (and two days back).  So.  A week for the kids to be out of school in my particular case.

If you are complaining about the Location, I want you to ask yourself where can you fly across the country and pay $250 round trip?  If it were on the east coast you would loose the west coast folks cause no one is paying $800 for a round trip ticket then Hotel, also  where can ya get hotels  that cheap a night at a nice enough/big enough place to have the convention?  Last  Hotel I stayed at on the eastcoast that was  actually nowhere near as nice as Bally's and frankly Ballys is a DUMP.  Cost more a night and when they are holding a convention it's acctually more that weekend.   Ballys'  never  cost $89 a night but it does while FF is there.

There is a reason they pick Vegas, it's CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP   for them.. and CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP for us!

Here I thought nothing would ever clash with the other convention I attend every year.  It's usually in October, on rare occasion in September.  Two trips close together, and I don't know what I'll do if they both end up the same weekend.

at least there was (expensive) wireless this year at bally's.

I go to another convention in october.  so i'm voting for early.  and i ...may not make it, simply because it is too close to the other vacation and my sig other can't afford to go with for both, jobwise.  and it remains to be seen, too, if we are actually going to have the other convention happen *at the same time.*  if they move the date around too, i'm SOL.

so we'll have to see.

Hi Scadicca!  Yeah, she's usually with me at both cons, heh.

Why must SOE continually re-visit Las Vegas?  I have attended Fan Faire regularly.  The money issues for Fan Faire are those of SOE - I feel that SOE ignores the suggestions / pleas of loyal fans to conduct an upcoming Fan Faire again on the East Coast or in the center of the country.  Is SOE not able to explore holding the event in:  Omaha?  Chicago?  Washington, D.C.?  New Orleans?  There seems to be lack of consideration for fans in the monotonous choice of Las Vegas.  I have the wherewithal to attend and travel; however, many do NOT have the luxury.  Other cities have distinct venues which should be explored.

Allow me to suggest a scenario:  Why not hold it in Washington, D.C.?  There are numerous activities for folks to enjoy if not engaged 24 / 7 in the Fan Faire conference, and if participants bring children, there are attractions free of charge such as all the Smithsonian Museums, the National Mall, the Library of Congress, the U.S. Capitol, Arlington National Cemetery, and even the White House among many others.  Other possible "for cost" alternatives include the "Spy Museum", the Newseum, the Washington Monument, and Mount Vernon.

I know that other cities offer similar enriching and rewarding attractions.

When I attend Fan Faire, my perspective is to enjoy the conference, but I often go shopping, attend at least one of the casino shows, gamble, and golf.  I generally allow six nights for my stay in Las Vegas.  I do not enjoy going for just the few days of conference....the price of the air fare seems more reasonable in the context of spending about a week.

Please reconsider a different venue.  I'll come to Vegas again....in 2010, I was in Las Vegas on 4 different occasions for a week each time.  I did not attend Fan Faire in Vegas in 2011 for 2 simple reasons:  it was too close to the 4th of July holiday and air fares were high from the East Coast, and I'll be spending a week in Las Vegas in November/December 2011.

So it's not necessarily that I don't like Las Vegas, but come on SOE, give other cities an opportunity to host, and stop looking at the bottom line for SONY Online Entertainment.  Please start thinking "outside the box"!

whaaaaat? Why so late in the year?  I would be fine with October of this year...again.. lol.

I do not have kids, however, it is better for me to go in the summer since business is slower during that time.

A new year eve  FF would be fun SMILEY in Jan, away from the cold.

Has the team that plans this event considered off strip locations? There are some nice hotels with casino & shuttles to the strip/airport in the surrounding areas. I spent more time at FF, restuarants and sleeping in my room than I did at casinos this year

I think the latest date, of the 3, is the most logical. It may be School season, but it's not at the begining for those have school. (or those that have kids)

I would much prefer thid date so I don't fry, if I get to go next year...

Wow!  Those dates are late!  I was hoping to go next year as well, but I can not go during the school year.  For the person who mentioned granparents are for watching the children, that is all well and good when they live close by.  My mom is gone and my in laws live on another continent.  So if you are willing to pay for those tickets....  they ran anout $1600.00 each last week ( times 3 children).  I will not pull them out of school for something that I may enjoy SMILEY

However, it is good for those that can not attend during the summer.  That is just not me.  So have a great time all!

Same problem as most, school conflict... I'm in college and I have a child in school. But I'll try to make it out again next year SMILEY

And just fyi to the person who stated that we East Coasters only have to pay like $250 roundtrip for the flight... wrong. It was $450 roundtrip from Atlanta to Vegas per person. But flight prices have just as much to do with where you're departing from as your destination location. Mainly, if you're flying across the country, it's gonna be expensive no matter which direction.

Personally, I think it should alternate locations to give east, west and midwest a chance to attend. It would also be more fair cost-wise to the attendees as well.

Let me pop in here to talk honestly about a few points that come up every year:

Why the autumn?

Among the many, many considerations in booking FanFaire is the simple fact of availability of the venue.

The choices set before are the only three weekends that Bally's has open in 2012. Plain and simple. THREE out of the entire year!  In 2011, we had two choices, one in July, one in August.

We know kids are in school and that Fan Faire covers two weekdays, Thursday and Friday. Over the past few years, when we've been able to run Fan Faire during the summer, we have received many complaints about the overbearing heat and the almost inevitable double booking with family holiday plans, other conventions.

Each year we have people tell us how disappointed that they cannot attend, and others who tell us they happy that they can attend for the first time ever. There is no perfect scheduling solution that will fit everyone, unfortunately... at least not until someone invents cool wormhole technology. Man, that would be cool. Please get working on it.

Why Bally's?

We have been at Bally's for three years running, and we have developed a very good relationship with the hotel. Almost all technical and logistical issues have been ironed out (hey, there is always room for improvement and we have collected ALL your feedback to work on next year!). Moving from venue to venue means we have to reinvent the wheel every time.

The price is right for SOE and for guest rooms.

If we moved elsewhere, to another hotel capable of giving us the same level of facilities and services, we'd be picking up a much larger bill.

I'll say it right here: the cost of admission does not cover the cost of admission, not by a long shot.  This is our big annual fan event, a heartfelt thank you to our players, but in order to be as fiscally responsible as players should expect us to be, we have to choose our venue with extreme care, or increase badge fees such that no one could afford to come.

The rooms are affordable for a large convention hotel as well. As a player, I've had to pay $150 - 190 a night at other Fan Faire hotels we've been at over the years. I know what it's like to live on a tight budget and how hard it was to fork over that kind of money for 3 - 4 nights. Bally's is on the strip, and for those who prefer fancier hotels, there are several other choices nearby within a reasonable distance!

Why Vegas?

We've talked about this a lot over the years. Las Vegas is the most affordable solution. Yes, for both parties.

For SOE, it is within a reasonable day's bus trip for the hundred or so staff and devs we send out - yes, you heard right, we use a bus, not air travel... to save money and keep your badge costs down!

Vegas is the most affordable airfare option on average for folks from all over North America. We are fortunate that many of our wonderful overseas friends make the trip regardless... and yep, it's true, we cannot afford to host this event overseas, as much as we'd love to.

Vegas has Bally's. See above (it's big enough, reasonably priced, and we know it well enough to make our jobs easier every year).

In closing...

We are always looking at other options. Our Events Team is forever on the search for the best deal, location, service, venue, value on the dollar for our fans and for the company. We never say never for the future, but for 2012, all signs point to Bally's in Vegas once more, and we all hope to see you there again!  I just wish it was sooner!!!!

Yer auld Dwarf,

Brasse

I'd really like to go to Fan Faire 2012. However, I'd prefer if Fan Faire was taken place in Orlando, Florida instead of Las Vegas, Nevada again. I really think it's about time that Fan Faire is to be taken place on the east coast, imo~

Please please please please make this happen. :>

Should have made a button "all of the dates are OK" also SMILEY.

I voted for the middle, but I will most likely make it on every one of them.

Oh and btw: not having to sweat like crazy while it's 100 degrees might be a nice change SMILEY

Read again, what Brasse wrote, I think it sums up why any other place won't happen.

PS: I somehow doubt that the prices to travel from the east coast to Vegas are the same as the prices to fly over from Europe SMILEY.

At least you avoided Canadian Thanksgiving with the October date. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing. SMILEY As for the dates, I think I prefer the October date a little, but any of them should be fine. They are tricky for my mom who is a teacher, but she should be able to take some sick days. It does change our plans for next year though; we had planned on doing a side trip to California while we were down, but now it'll probably be a shorter trip. SMILEY

As a parrent, I'd love to go, but now it's not an option. Thank you for showing us that SOE doesn't care about most of it's players. I thik you will find that a different venue/date combination will yield a greater turnout, and therefore a greater payout over all. But if you'd rather let your fans know that you don't care, go right ahead with your Bally's plan.

I am a long time player (since 1999) and have made a few fan faires  5 or 6 some of my memory blurrs on these events ...lol.

But time to be serious I have done fan faires east coast (Atlanta) central (New Orleans) and of course Vegas and to be honest I go to fan faire for information , to meet other players and relax.  cost wise when you adjust for inflation Vegas is cheapest they have such a large influx of people going there the air lines cut rates to compete with each other.

Information and feed back to devs is a big reason for me to go and having been to several I can say there are more SOE people there ( Vegas..so greater chance being heard or talking to rep) due to thats a bus trip plus all the peep that are behind scenes (running booths ,set up ,  direction , tech support) make it hard to support Fan Faire to that level  farther from main offices which reqire air fare.

And yes I am on the east coast ( 8 miles from beach) and not on major hub, but if possible I'll be there again and not sweating my butt off walking from taxi to door of hotel.

And to the complainers having been to fan faire as well as for profit cons.... dragon con ..comic con, SOE is not making money on this thing its a "come talk to us and give us the feed back to help us make your games better". I have seen things broght up at fan faire come to pass in game so they do listen.  If you can make it go and have a good time
