I'm sure I've get plenty of room for improving my play with the Ranger.  One way to do that is to see parses from other Rangers, so I can see what they do and improve that way.  Unfortunately, it is a bit difficult to compare parses because of raid setup.  So, I've come up with a way that we can compare parses.  Hopefully, to use them to improve.

The "training wall" in Kunzar Jungle will be the focus of our testing.  So, here is how this works.

  1. Run ACT.
  2. Don't be grouped with anyone, this is a solo test only.
  3. Go to the training wall in Kunzar Jungle (near the Tabernacle of Pain, loc -120, -60, 127).
  4. Jot down all your stats, str, dps, crit, da, etc (see below).
  5. Kill the wall 10 times.  Make the time between kills as short as possible (but don't run out of power).  Don't wait 15 minutes between each kill so you can start with Sniper each time or even 5 minutes to get Killing Instinct up each time. SMILEY<img src= Just wait a few seconds to get some power back and then kill it again.  (My test took 13 minutes for all 10.)
  6. Go to ACT and select your outgoing damage for "All" 10 kills and take a screenshot.  If you had other kills during the time you were in the Jungle, you'll need to merge the 10 wall kills so you can exclude the others (or click "Clear Encounters" before you start).
  7. Post your results in this thread.

So, I'll go first...

  • Str: 638
  • Int: 261
  • DPS Mod: 45
  • Haste Mod: 73
  • Ranged Double Attack: 12%
  • Melee Double Attack: 0%
  • Ranged Crit: 56%
  • Melee Crit: 33%
  • Bow: Star Darkened Longbow
  • Ammo: umbral darkness

I think "Jeni" came along and killed a few clay pots while I was doing this, I wasn't grouped with her.

You can tell act to only parse you, also lock the encounter which will ensure only you are killing it just incase somebody comes along and 'helps'.

Effidian - sorry if this is off topic.  Could you list your gear that has you sitting at 45DPS self buffed?  I'm at 31 SMILEY

Add the 15dps 30 minute adornment, and you'll be right there with me. SMILEY

Thank you.  Isn't that the bow temp adorn?  If so, would it override the 10 dps adorn I already have on my bow?

    Thanks again

No, the bow one is for ranged double attack or ranged crit (I wasn't using one above).  The dps adornment is for your primary weapon.

Something weird here. I did 1.2 million damage for 10 walls, and Caleeb did 748k.  Caleeb, your walls are weak!  SMILEY

Caleeb's auto attack and ranged CAs are quite a bit higher than mine.  I guess the 30% higher crits and 12%-14% double attack and the mythical bow might account for a bit of that.

    Poisons are about the same.

It's a good 7 minutes shorter than my parse (3:28 compared to my 10:36), part of that is because of the almost doubled DPS, but also because there was less damage needed for some reason.

    Thanks for the parse!

I've always been hesitant to tell people what DPS I'm getting, because it's often like comparing Apples to Oranges (or maybe Oranges to Kumquats) due to group/raid/mob factors... but I like the fairness of solo attacks on the wall.  I'll give it a shot late tonight if I can (though I would definitely guess I'll be lower than ya'll).

I can do, by the way with the wall I was hitting, it was the only one I could find on that little island and it was blue to me (78 or something?). If you are using a different one let me know and I'll try to find it.

That's the one.  Do you know why your parse gets broken up?  Seems like it stops and starts quite a bit.  Maybe you have the combat end detection a bit short?  I've got mine set to 6 seconds, what is your set to?

Heh good guess, yeah it was set too low, I'll give the ET another parse as well as the RSB - remember the diff between RSB and ET won't be as simple as the difference in topend's, there's a whole mess of stuff - the ET's extra crit/RDA, point blank, CA damage etc. but it should still give you a fair idea of the difference.

I ran the parse in the "as good as I can get" configuration that I'd generally only use in raids, when I'm trying to not look like a slouch.  I had food, water, and caustic poisons on.  I also used a Danak Regimental Oilstone (DPS +15), but normally wouldn't because they cost me 22g to buy.  I couldn't use the smoldering waterstone because my bow is level 68.  I also sometimes use Grandmaster's Elixir of Tactics, but didn't this time.

    • Str: 635
    • Int: 241
    • DPS Mod: 26
    • Haste Mod: 45
    • Ranged Double Attack: 8%
    • Melee Double Attack: 0%
    • Ranged Crit: 41%
    • Melee Crit: 19%
    • Bow: Ancestral Sarnak War Bow
    • Ammo: ferrite field point arrow
Oh, and my wall was level 76...  and I ran out of power on Wall #3.  Recharged to 50% after each fight thereafter.
So there I am.  Should probably ignore my To Hit % numbers... I don't think I log my misses.  I'm not the best ranger in the world (I'm the Nerf Ranger).  I'd rank my gear as low end T8 Legendary.. I've run group instances some (but not much), been on a handful of raids, and... uhm... stood around QH a lot?   Before anyone asks, no, I'm not upset about my low DPS.  I have no desire to moan and argue on the other threads to get Aeralik to fix us.  I'm a ranger, and that's enough to make me happy.

Sorry for derailing, but I have to ask this question.I have about same haste self-buffed, but how in the world do you get so high DPS mod?I have 0 now, and with bow adornment, I will get 10 or 12?How did you get 45? Are there any items with constant DPS mod?

There are several ways:Neck Adorn:12Bow ADorn: 12Tunare Earring:8Shadow Strider Boots: 630 Min: 20 DPS buffThose are the relatively easy ones to get. There are also several others that proc DPS: the strength ring, the marr cloak etc.

    1. Do you have Intoxication?  The end Int ability?  You should cast that before you start whenever it is up (should be every other fight on the wall).
    2. Poison Combination, the second Int ability, is also really good.  If you look at my two parses, you can see I used it more on the second parse, and that the poisons went up.  I usually rely on our assasin to do it, so I kinda forgot about it in the first parse.
    3. The crit/double attack difference between you and I certainly account for some of our differences.  I also did a lot more damage with my poison, I was using Expert's.  But our parse is pretty close if you look at the % for each attack.  Looking at the average hit, mine is higher, and Caleeb's is even higher, which leads me to believe the crit% is a big part of the difference, since our str isn't that different.

Sure thing, I thought a pic of my setup might help explain it a bit, so here it is:Most raid fights go as so (AA=autoattack): 2nd hotbar - (AA) Vulnerability, Rope, Bloody Reminder, (AA), Focus, Vulnerable Arrow (AA)..etc etc (2 bow shots then an AA. at the end of the focus cycle I might hit spy/longstab and let off a stealth shot. After that its 2 melee CAs and 1 bow CA (roped most of the time), in order or most damage to least (my achievement attacks if nothing else is up). Rinse and repeat..oh and my temp buffs as they're needed (not at the end of fights though, they'll be wasted). Pre-cast Intox of course as well. Hope that helps a bit.

I don't mind at all.  1) I do have Intox... but I'm thinking I wasn't using it right?  I don't know.  I thought it was an "always on" skill, so I'm thinking I'll have to go educate myself on it.  2) I have Poison Combo as well (since I have Intox SMILEY), but I'm thinking I probably don't hit it as often as I should (if I'm thinking of the right one)...   both these missteps could be attributed to inattentive driving, but then again, I don't raid often enough to hone my skill into max DPS like it should be.I agree with point #3 as well.  My crit% would be higher if I had better gear, and I'd love to run the same test with the same bow.. but it'll probably be quite a while before I get my hands on Eagle's Talon.

Checked my toon.  I don't have Intoxication, since I went went Poise and Perfectionist instead... at some point I will probably drop Perfectionist in favor of Intoxication (when I respec out of solo mode).  Also, I do have Poison Combination, but it never seemed to make it onto my hotbar, so I haven't been using it.  I've fixed that now.

Hey Caleeb, was just hoping for an updated parse of the RSB v.s. Mythical before 44 goes live.  With the 6 second encounter end.

If you don't mind anyway.  SMILEY

Great post btw. Now I know looking at other rangers what I should be shooting for regarding my DPS. Thanks Caleb for your posting of your casting order, not sure why half of my stuff is all over the map.  But one thing I was wondering mainly is that I have noticed everyone's Str is mid 600's, though I am not dure what the cap is, would you all use the elixir of Fortitude or something else like Tactics? My str right now is 650ish and was wondering if the extra crit would help me out more than the extra str would.

The soft cap is 800 but in SOEs good grace all the good ranged stuff has very little strength. My strength actually dropped 200 points from t7 to t8. it is pretty f'ing stupid. Mellee gear has 2x the strength. I went from 800+ in t7 to 650 in t8.

     Examples abound:

Coiled Shoulderguards: +5 crit no strMantle of impetous strikes: +2 RDA no strDiZok Stud: +2 RC +12 strCompare those to their melee counterparts:

Assassin Stud: +2 MC +34 strLeggings of Impetous Strikes: +2 MC +34 str

I could go on and on

Sorry for derailing, but I have to ask this question.I have about same haste self-buffed, but how in the world do you get so high DPS mod?I have 0 now, and with bow adornment, I will get 10 or 12?How did you get 45? Are there any items with constant DPS mod?

Sorry also for derailling the thread Webbin and Thanks for your data btw. My question is more technical an may look silly : How do you insert an image or an excel array in your post ? I have been trying to do that without success so far.

I take a screenshot (using Print Screen in Windows), which copies the image to the clipboard. I then paste it into a photoshop document (you can use any image editing software), save it to a jpg, upload it to a public-accessible location on the internet (in my case, it's my hosted website http://ryan.dey1.com/file/), and then use the image's URL (http://ryan.dey1.com/files/Webin_Parse.jpg) in the "Insert/Edit Image" window on the Reply editor for the forum.Caleeb uses Photobucket for his image hosting, others have used Flickr.Make sense?  SMILEY
