For the last year on Live and again on Beta Spell DoubleCast has been working on many Combat Arts. I have seen this happen on many Melee Classes like Ranger, Swashy but most glaring example and biggest complaint over the last year is a Monks Dragonfire spell. If you have 0 Spell Doublecast Dragonfire will hit a dummy for 9 times over 8 seconds. If you have 100% Spell Doublecst Dragonfire can and usually will hit the same dummy 18 times. I have repeated this experiment on both live and beta. Since you are looking into character balance please go through all Combat arts and test to see if they are benefiting from Spell Doublecast.

Why would they do that? Do you not know that just because something shows up in your combat art tab dose not mean it is a combat art? What should happen is they make all DoubleCast 1 stat so people don't get so confused.

Dragonfire is a spell. It's not affected by Combat Mastery or many other combat art related buffs.

ok here is a quick explination, a while back they combined double attack (melee) and spell double cast (caster) into one that effects everyone, in one simple stat to simplify stat windows, it is working as intended

As Makya said its a spell, not a combat art. The only stat that has a chance to make combat arts double hit is Ability Double cast. While spell double cast (no brainer) double hits only for spells. Be aware, ability double cast applies to both. So spells CAN triple hit, while combat arts can only double hit.

Side note: Ability Double cast is for CAs -and- spells, not just CAs.

See this is where I love people who reply who have no idea what they are talking about. Dragonfire is a Combat Art....Look at name of the little tab it is under in your Book. "Combat Arts" is right there at the top. Combat Mastery doesn't work on Dragonfire, not because it isn't a Combat Art but because you have never read what Combat Mastery does. It maxes any Combat Art that deals Melee damage....him pretty sure that the Combat Art called Dragonfire deal Heat damage....go figure that Combat Mastery wouldn't work on it.(yes being a smart butt*filter*)

Now we can use your logic, but if we do it would not fit the fact that clearly Combat Mastery is working on Rising Dragon and Clearly Spell Double Cast is effecting this Combat Art. It hits 6 extra times at 100% Spell Doublecast.(13 hits as appose to 7 it normally does when 0 Doublecast)

Was on a Beta Raid with a Monk and we were all using Beta gear Gninja Supplied. The monk was top of parse with Dragonfire still doing 50% of his damage on single target. How is this fixed if they have been already hit with a 35% reduction to Dragonfire?

Dev you can't fix class balance unless you address Melee class broken Combat Arts. It not just monks I am seeing this on. I have seen it on Ranger and Swash but not to the same Extent.

If dragonfire was still 50% of that monk's parse, he's not playing the class right. Even on live, dragonfire is about 30-35% of my parse now unless there's tons of adds around (and I'm a geomancer). On beta it's more like 20-25%. If you favor one ability more than the others (because lazy or whatever) it can always lead to an off balanced parse.

Alos, just because something is under the CA tab doesn't mean it has to be a CA, it hasn't been that way for a long time for many melee class abilities. One of the easiest ways to tell what something is classified as is to see if it lists resistability (probably spell) or hit bonus (probably CA). Taunts are also under the CA tab and they follow their own rules of no fervor adjustments, spell resistability and they don't respond to combat mastery. Where's that fit into the "tabs"?

Frogert. Just because things are listed under the combat art tab, doesn't mean it's a combat art. All fighter taunts, including dragon fire, are spells and are effected by spell double cast. It's not hard to test, and prove. And yes, getting ability doublecast and spell doublecast to 100% allows all spells, taunts and ascensions included, to triple cast. It was proven that all taunts are spells many years ago, before spell doublecast was even in the game.

some "combat arts" were already proccing the troub's aria of magic buff and DoTs also double cast. Even melee CA dot will DC.

i get it, it's not clear. Why some combat arts are actually spells ? why some double cast and some don't ? it's obscure but the fact is that DF double cast. And will continue

also combat mastery :

maximum damage on melee or ranged attacks and combat arts. no mention of melee damage CA.

so you're actually the one who has no clue of what CM actually does
