Does the aa warding in magi shielding absorb the hit, and if so do you think its worth investing in?

Yes the magi's shielding ward does absorb some of the choker damage, but I wouldn't spec for shielding if that's your only reason. Any decent healer should be able to keep up with choker damage with no problem.  Your AA in that case is better spent on improving your dps.  If you're looking for a way to use the choker soloing, or any other situation when no healer is present, magi's shielding will help but isn't going to be enough to keep you alive.

Manashield on the other hand, does absorb 100% of choker damage for its 30 second duration (as long as you have the mana to spare), which can come in handy at times if you're just going for max dps on wimpy solo mobs that don't hit back very hard.

It absorbs 1, then the rest you are hosed because it doesnt regen fast enough to keep up with a good casting order.  I can kill myself on the training dummy in under 30 seconds with 10khp.

Your healer should be doing it.  Remind them if they are a defiler that you are going to chew up group wards like a pitbull.
