So I choose a small sampling of all  mage gear. I had 46 items to salvage.  The raws that came from the items made sense, ie roots off of cloth armor.

Here is the breakdown of what I ended up with:

134 - Iridium clusters102 - Mantoppie roots20 - Amethyst20 - Thick Bear Pelts40 - Rhenium ore40 - Swamp Ash Lumber11 - Osmosium1 - Metallic Reptile Hide10 - Banyan Roots2 - Tungsten Ore

46 Salvage attempts, 22 ended up in regular harvests (48%) and 24 ended up in rares (52%).  On the regular harvests I received anywhere between 2-20 harvests.  Received 2 harvests 3 times (14%), received 5 twice (9%) and received 20 items 17 times (77%).

While I appreciate all the extra rares, I am wondering if this needs to be toned down a bit.

I salvaged 2 fabled raid jewelry pieces. One gave me an osmium, one gave me a black star sapphire.

Has anyone figured out the logic behind this tradeskill yet? Gonna work on that a bit tonight.

I'm not sure. The logic is probably that, as you know a lot about tradeskilling, you're obviously able to spot bits and pieces that could be salvaged from you equipement instead of trashing him.

Legendaries seem to have a 50/50 to give 1 rare or 20 raws. It seems I get rare roots out of mage gear, osmium out of jewelry.

I never had 2, 3 or 5 raws at a time so those are probably tied to breaking treasured.

My guess would be that fabled always give rares.

So basically, break you stuff down for a chance at a rare. Trying to get manas seems way more interesting for me as a whole, so I think most people will still prefer to transmute stuff.

Slot type - rare salvage at level 92

finger, ear, wrist, charm, neck - osmium

cloak - banyan root

waist - pelt

plate armor - tungsten

Seems to make sense, the rare you would use to craft the tradeskilled version of the item is the rare you get back. Not sure what the ratios are, but you either get 5-20 of the nonrare harvestables or 1 rare for legendary items. Fabled items give either 1 or 2 rares.

From these numbers, my own experience on beta, and the other posts on this thread it seems there is a clear favoring of Osmium being the salvage product on jewelry pieces.   This will create a clear imbalance in the availability of spell rares just like we had at the beginning of last xpac (due to a harvesting bug and Black Star Sapphires were dropping 10/1 as compared to Osmium).  Those that use Osmium as their expert spell component will have a clear advantage.  Is this intended?

Excellent observation, Arieva! I think you are 100% right there.

Did you notice a difference if you salvaged priest/mage jewelry vs. scout/fighter?  Just curious...

Ok, I logged hubby char and broke down his bank (poor guy!).

Here is what I found:

Numbers of items

  • Treasured gives 1-2-5 common items. 2% chances critical succes : 1 rare
  • Legendary gives 20 common or 1 rare:
    • 2% chances at critical failure: 5 commons
    • 48% chances at failure: 20 common
    • 48% chances at success : 1 rare
    • 2% chances at critical success: 2 rares
  • Fabled gives 1 or 2 rares

What item gives what :

  • jewelry = soft metal.
    • low tier rings in treasured/legendary give common loam
  • symbols, casters range weapons = gems
  • belts = hide
  • cloaks = roots
  • chain/plate armor = hard metal or randomly loam
    • got some common loam on legendary chain cuffs and even a rare loam of spaulders. This loam thing is getting me confused
  • leather armor = hide
  • cloth armor = roots
  • metal weapons/shields = hard metal
  • wood weapons/bows = wood

Possible bugs:

  • There's no gems given with anything in any tier (well, except a T1 "magic affinity" quest item that shouldn't be salvagable aITEM 1174001589 1331315010 0:[Tempest Touched Orb]/a and a T7 symbol)
  • Rings T1-T8 give common loam or rare soft metal (never got a rare loam)
  • For whatever reasons some chain mail items give loam
    • A legendary chain cuff gave me 20 common loams (aITEM 1717361496 76907853 0:[Spiritwalker's Spirit Fury Chain Cuffs of Summons]/a )
    • A treasured chain cuff gave me 5 loams (aITEM 1319975143 1168581803 0:[Shadowed Wristguards]/a )
    • A treasured chain mantle gave me 1 common loam (aITEM -983144486 -1387024184 0:[Freeportian Studded Mantle]/a )
    • T1 legendary cloth pauldrons gave me a rare loam (aITEM 1732811739 -895801421 0:[Skull Spiked Pauldrons]/a )
    • A T8 legendary spaulder and gloves gave a rare loam (aITEM 37960990 1786178060 0:[Freeportian Studded Gloves]/a aITEM -1807341191 1041618595 0:[Ice Linked Gloves]/a )
    • the ambusher chain armor is breaking down into loam except the gloves (aITEM 231021517 -447553249 0:[Ambusher's Pants]/aaITEM -1056025263 435883090 0:[Ambusher's Brigandine Coat]/a)
    • got loams salvaging T7 legendary chainmail set (Darkstrike Coat and leggings, bracers, gloves) but got metal on other pieces (mantle, boots, hood)
    • chainmail T7 cowl breaks into rare loam aITEM -280774680 -1375338803 0:[Hoo'Loh's Hunting Cowl]/a
  • Some chain mail items give wrong quantities of loam (rare or 20 common for treasured)
    • Got a rare loam on treasured chainmail greaves? aITEM -326499226 1994814188 0:[Shadowed Greaves]/a
    • A treasured chain cuff gave me 20 common loam (aITEM 61455554 1694491586 0:[Reet Guardian's Bracers]/a)
    • T1 treasured chain helm gave me 20 common loam aITEM 199565843 -384681193 0:[Qeynosian Studded Helm]/a
    • T1 treasured chain glove gave 20 common loams aITEM 37960990 1786178060 0:[Freeportian Studded Gloves]/a
  • salvaging "Cloak of Shimmering Faith" (T1 fabled) gave me a "yarrow fiber" and not a "yarrow". That's the wrong rare (aITEM -794750857 442271399 0:[yarrow fiber]/a instead of aITEM -1535386000 2080709494 0:[yarrow]/a )Same problem breaking aITEM 1211948444 -30283761 0:[Excavation Helmet]/a
  • a chain tunic gave me 20 common loams (aITEM -2044472438 -1779717651 0:[Shadowed Tunic]/a )
  • I got 2 rares (2 bronzes) while salvaging T1 treasured leggings (aITEM 2049702703 2010971495 0:[Shadowed Leggings]/a )
  • I got 2 rare pelts out of a treasured T1 leather spaulder (aITEM -15592609 986743703 0:[Troglodyte Flesh Sleeves]/a )
  • It seems mastercrafted items are breaking into treasured stuff instead of legendary?
  • got loam on a T7 roundshield aITEM 9816753 -2023974581 0:[Smoldering Ethernaut's Roundshield of Projection]/a

Yeah, ok, the old live event shadowed armor seems hopelessly bugged. being T1 stuff and unavailable in game, it's no biggie though. A bunch of other T1 stuff seems to give weird results too.

Ok, I'm starting to wonder if the chain armors are not supposed to give loams, but if that's the case, I got a massive amount of chain armors giving hard metal. And not always the same slots. Greaves of one set would give metal while greaves on another set would give loam. Is it supposed to be random or is there some bugs hiding there?
