Info given on hotel information says North Tower Deluxe. At least that is what Bally's is saying when you look at availability and pricing.

staying in the south tower  is cheaper than the north    by ether  useing this code or not   Useing SOE code keeps ya in the  north tower  it is a little closer to ball room

Thank you for all info ) I did find SOE rate was for north delux tower.

We prefer there since its less walking to convention area.

It is for the North tower if you register using the fan faire code SBSOE1. The advantage is being a lot closer to the hotels' convention area, the South tower is fine, but you do have to walk across to the other side of the casino, which does take a couple minutes to do. If you have mobility issues, I suggest staying in the north tower. As of last year, all of the north tower rooms had been renovated, they were supposedly going to start rennovations on the south tower, but I have no idea if they have, or how far along they are, if they have.

I called and spoke with Ballys and the south has not been renovated yet.

The South Tower is a LOOONGGG way from the convention area.  I know, I hiked it 2 years ago with all my booth stuff.  Last year I was in North Tower and it was sooo much better !  I do understand price points though, and South was just fine if ye dun worry about the distance.

Indeed the South Tower is a very long way from the convention area. The North Tower rooms are extremely nice and I enjoyed staying at Bally's last year during Fan Faire.

I would highly recommend signing up for the Gold total rewards card in Ballys. I got one last year and made sure to swipe it when I played a little slots, and I got a promo deal via email that gave me a major room discount. I am staying 5 days, Wed to Mon and it is only costing me $270 total.

maybe it is because I am comparing it to the Rio and Hilton but I didn't think the South Tower was all that far from the Convention Center... Now Rio and Hilton THAT was a Hike.

South tower -> Pro: Cheaper, closer to strip entrance

Con: Longer walk to convention area (5mins more?), rooms are older

North tower -> Pro: very close to convention area, Newer renovated nicer rooms

                        Con: pricier

If you don't mind cons in South tower, you can get like $35 on expedia.com on week nights. which is much cheaper than FF week nights North tower rate. On weekend maybe FF rate is better than those travel sites.

We are planning to stay Thu- Sunday. We considered staying South tower on week nights buy from expedia. (that we do not need to be at convention area at all)

Then buy North Tower on weekend from FF rate.

Its surely good way to save money SMILEY though changing room is no fun...

At end we decided to just go with FF rate with North Tower. Suit us lazy people >< LOL

If you are flying in, check with places like cheap tickets and priceline (or whatever your favorite travel agency is).  Often you can get a good deal on a package including flight and hotel for much much cheaper than the Block discount that SoE can get you.  We've used outside sources the last couple years for our group and managed to save a few hundred bucks per person doing it that way.

The tradeoff though is that most of these package deals are non refundable, where as hotel reservations can normally be canceled up to a week before the dates with no fees.  It's a small risk but if you are sure you are going, its well worth the savings in the end.

Another travel site to look at for Vegas is Vegas.com it seems to have some of the best deals when your looking last minute.

Also Southwest now packages whole trips to...remember they only book directly...unlike most other airlines.

If you are still looking for discounts, check this link:

http://www.smartervegas.com/

This is the most comprehensive list of vegas hotel discount codes I have seen.

I can second the idea of picking up a Total Rewards card. My mom has one and while she doesn't play much she played enough while we were down last time, that we're able to stay Monday to Monday in the South Tower for 230$ total. (all but Friday and Saturday are comped, and the later two are 100$ each). So the discounts do start to add up, especially if you plan on coming to more than one fan faire. (And if this will be your only visit ever to Vegas, you wouldn't have lost much by getting a card)
