Finnaly some fun for us level 50's out there. I cant wait to fight all in my guild bwhahaha.
While I belive this will be fun I would still like to see some kind of PVP arenas put in also. Like one in each city where people can enter and fight it out FFA pvp style.

To all that are complaining about the new /duel wake up man. This was in EQ1 from the get go and only added fun to the game. If you dont want to PVP you dont have to. I dont see the problem. If someone spams you with /duel out them on ignore and move on gees.

oh god.. please dont assume this is a solution for the level-50 content problem. It's just a gimmick.

Actually it promotes competition between players which in a sense will make you play more (and this may show more of the class imbalances -- thus having them addressed faster)

Geez people strive to get to 50 so they can raid but after you have all that gear, what do you plan on doing -- sitting around town polishing it?  Seriously go out and show how good you are after earning all that equipment by /dueling with friend or foe

Here comes Coronet Starport once again:

"Anyone want to duel me??!!"
"I'm the hawtness |337! CANNOT BE BEAT!"
"Screw you... cheap crap..."

Great... I can already see my ignore list growing.  I hope there isnt a cap on how many people you can add.

That's bound to happen in any game though, you're always going to get people who act like idiots

I don't see it being as bad in EQ2 though since (at least on Befallen) most people are mature in what they do

Dueling is fine for those who are interested, but something like this has been posted elsewhere:

12YearOld:  /duel I want to fight you, let me destroy your lowly Ranger
You: /No
12YearOld: /Come on you are a loser, fight me
You: /No
12YearOld: /You are a nOOb wimpazoid, fight me
You: /No. Go away.
12YearOld: /Rangers are wimps, they cannot fight anything else
You: /I don't care what you think. Go away.
12YearOld: /Loser Ranger won't fight me! Nyaaah!
You: /Go fight Venekor by yourself. Leave me alone.
12YearOld: /Nyaaah!
You: /ignore 12YearOld

Definitely makes a case for the developers adding some kind of autoignore flag for /duel. (Which I have to assume they are doing, or will.) Anyway, should add a little extra element of uncertainty to the game for those who are complaining about boredom :smileywink:

I hope it's not like WoW.  You get people that spam you with duel requests and it keep bringing up a box that you have to click yes or no to.  I had some jerk follow me around for 10 minutes spamming with with a duel request.  So what I really hope if that they add a nice little check box in your opptions to turn off duel requests so I don't have to even see them sent to me.

You are right it was in EQ1 and was big part of the balancing issues they had there.  If it has no effect on my game play then I have no problem in it but it is not hard to see nerfs coming due to PVP inequalities and not to mention I bet there will be additions, subtractions, and modifications to loot tables based on an items effect on PVP.

/duel makes a window pop up. You can hit no on the window to decline the duel There are some current problems with dueling that I hope get fixed before it goes live (probably not but I can dream right?)

They already thought of that. There are two sets of variables for each of your skills. One for PVP and one for PVE. So when you mash the "I Win!" button and do 500 damage to a npc in PVE, you mash the same "I Win!" button in PVP and it wont do the same damage. So it wont unballance anything when they tinker with the setting for PVP since it doesn't toutch the pve.

uhh you have documentation of that, yes? Would make sense, but SOE doesn't always do things in a sensible manner...

I would like to see an option to autodecline a duel.  I wouldn't want to keep seeing some box popping up in the middle of my window when I am busy and would be very annoyed if I ended up clicking the wrong part of it due to lag or somesuch.

/duel  ?!?!?!?!?

Is this the new, revolutionary, futuristic PvP system SOE has promised to its players base????

The usual, old, stinky /duel command we have seen so many time ???

I can't believe it..... it's soo foolish !!

Maybe Accept / Decline / Decline + Ignore further requests?

Actualy, this is just the filler.  The one your refering to is the pokemon type PvP in arenas in the cities that is supposed to be out in the desert of ro expansion.

As much as you poke and prod at SoE you sure do totally miss these tidbits that they post in places like HERE.http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=pvp&message.id=92#M92

I dont understand the uproar.  Ok I understand people dont like PvP.  And I find it entertaining to see someone say that the only reason they play this game is because it isnt PvP.  Then why play the game.  There is so much more to it then it isnt PvP.  PvP will be optional.  If someone bugs you to duel then say no.  I played WoW on a PvE server and maybe 3 times in 4 months did I get challenged to a dual.  I think it is going to be good for the game,   It will give people another option of what they want to do.  Whether it be crafting, grinding, questing, and soon to be PvPing.  I agree that /auto decline should be optional to use also. but to complain about PvP.  You all knew it was going to come.  They said it.  Honestly if people stop playing because of it, think about how many players want PvP and the lvl 50's that quit because they were bored.  This will give them something to do so more people will start playing or come back then leave IMO.

I'm happy to see that they added this to test server. Now I just need to pass the news on to some friends of mine.

I would like to see a way to /duel-mentor as in the levels would be matched to lowest denominator.  This would allow for even (level wise) skills.

Awesome, /duel will be fun.  I’ve always driven classes that were poor duelers, Cleric, and now a Conjuror, but I will enjoy the strategy.

Torq of Unrest

P.S. I'm wondering if this is a spoof, since I never saw it in the Test patch notes.

The other advantage to duel is that it gives those of us on RP servers more options to RP with.

The 'uber l33t' ganker culture some people are so worries about is'nt as prevolent now after games like DAoC and WoW that focused primarily on team pvp than it was in the early days of EQ and UO. Most people who complain base their pvp experience off games long past their prime. The entire pvp culture has evolved to include more mature people who like the challenge of dealing with another player as opposed to relatively simple AI. Most of us, by a massive majority, prefer a good equal fight to grey ganking... which is about the equivelent of killing grey mobs... not very fun.

IMO UO's pvp system was about the best there ever was. But that game was built for large scale pvp, EQ2 isn't

PvP? Yes and Yes...

There is nothing cooler than to watch two gladiators battle it out.  Im soo looking forward to this.

Not into PvP? dont need to accept /duel.  gettin spammed? /ignore

whats the problem here? class balance issues? we have those already. I'm sure that the non PvP'ers will be the first ones to stop and watch others fight. Quit your [expletive ninja'd by Faarbot] whinin.
