I'm looking for some help with flying, slow-falling, gliding, etc.    I want to buy an item that will let me either fly, or feather fall.     I've had no luck searching the broker, and I don't want a station cash item.

Any help appreciated.

Featherfall is mostly on cloaks, and I think you can get some from the broker that have them.  Couple of races have an ability that does it.  As for flying, only way to get a mount for that not on SC is raid and hope for that to drop, or do the quest in DoV at 85.

I'm not sure if the raid mounts that drop are exempt from having to do the flying mount questline.

SOE is more than happy to allow players to bypass content if they are willing to open their wallets we all know that, not sure on the raid mount drops though, and if I am ever lucky enough to walk away with one the toon it will be going to has done the flying mount questline so I wouldn't be able to tell.

As far as I know and through personal testing you no longer have to complete the flying quest for any mount if you're a level 85 and above crafter, or a level 86 and above adventurer. Everyone else must featherfall, glide or leap.

The only reason to do the flying questline now is if you want a free mount.

I have 3 cloaks and 2 ponies so far....I have no remorse sending anyone there to share a small piece of my pain, or the pain of those who have more cloaks/ponies then me....

How To Fly

© by Douglas Adams

There is an art, it says, or rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss. Pick a nice day, [The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy] suggests, and try it.

The first part is easy. All it requires is simply the ability to throw yourself forward with all your weight, and the willingness not to mind that it's going to hurt.

That is, it's going to hurt if you fail to miss the ground. Most people fail to miss the ground, and if they are really trying properly, the likelihood is that they will fail to miss it fairly hard.

Clearly, it is the second part, the missing, which presents the difficulties.

One problem is that you have to miss the ground accidentally. It's no good deliberately intending to miss the ground because you won't. You have to have your attention suddenly distracted by something else when you're halfway there, so that you are no longer thinking about falling, or about the ground, or about how much it's going to hurt if you fail to miss it.

It is notoriously difficult to prize your attention away from these three things during the split second you have at your disposal. Hence most people's failure, and their eventual disillusionment with this exhilarating and spectacular sport.

If, however, you are lucky enough to have your attention momentarily distracted at the crucial moment by, say, a gorgeous pair of legs (tentacles, pseudopodia, according to phyllum and/or personal inclination) or a bomb going off in your vicinty, or by suddenly spotting an extremely rare species of beetle crawling along a nearby twig, then in your astonishment you will miss the ground completely and remain bobbing just a few inches above it in what might seem to be a slightly foolish manner.

This is a moment for superb and delicate concentration. Bob and float, float and bob. Ignore all consideration of your own weight simply let yourself waft higher. Do not listen to what anybody says to you at this point because they are unlikely to say anything helpful. They are most likely to say something along the lines of "Good God, you can't possibly be flying!" It is vitally important not to believe them or they will suddenly be right.

Waft higher and higher. Try a few swoops, gentle ones at first, then drift above the treetops breathing regularly.

DO NOT WAVE AT ANYBODY.

When you have done this a few times you will find the moment of distraction rapidly easier and easier to achieve.

You will then learn all sorts of things about how to control your flight, your speed, your maneuverability, and the trick usually lies in not thinking too hard about whatever you want to do, but just allowing it to happen as if it were going to anyway.

You will also learn about how to land properly, which is something you will almost certainly screw up, and screw up badly, on your first attempt.

There are private clubs you can join which help you achieve the all-important moment of distraction. They hire people with surprising bodies or opinions to leap out from behind bushes and exhibit and/or explain them at the critical moments. Few genuine hitchhikers will be able to afford to join these clubs, but some may be able to get temporary employment at the

You don't mention what level you are, but there is a leaper quest in Tenebrous Tangle that rewards a free leaping mount.  I don't know the quest name offhand but I'm sure you can find it on eq2wiki.  Leapers can be a little dangerous in the "island" zones 'cause they tend to glide off the edge.

There's the carpet quest in Sinking Sands, for a feather fall mount, there's a cloak given to you if you actually subscribe an account longer then 3 months, there is a dropped cloak called Fae Wing Cloak that drops from trash mobs in emerald halls.

Crafting wise there is the Overclocked Gnomish Hovering Device and the Hotwired Gnomish Hoverpad the overclocked is limited to 10 charges but a refueling item can be made/purchased the hotwired version has unlimited charges and looks far cooler with it's steampunk feel.

EDIT: on the subscription, I did a full year, got some fun trinkets plus 500 station cash a month with how they have it set up now, so you could after 4 months get a mount for free.

I'm level 82.    I'm a Kerran so I can't glide like a Fae either.   I guess I can't do the DoV quests as 1) I'm not high enough level, and 2) I haven't purchased DoV.

I forgot about my carpet.   I probably still have it..... does the old Sinking Sands carpet quest carpet, actually fly nowadays ?   I can try anyway.

Now about leapers.    After a quick search, you're right - starts with Ferwah Shieldwall at the breeding grounds.   Have to try this tonight.    I did the leaper quest in Butcherblock, but he doesn't leap high enough for me to reach the spot.    Thanks for the tip !

LOL sorry I don't know the difference between "leapers" and "gliders."    All I know is everytime the char that has the mount hits a slight bump in the road she takes off and the thing is really hard to control.  It's fun in places like Antonica but in TT and places like that it is a dangeous thing to have.

I know which is why I use the leaper mount on the toons who can actually use the glider mount. LOL

During Moonlight Enchantments,  on the 20th - 21st (of every month) you can get a Flying Carpet Mount for the special tokens. It doesn't fly more than a foot or two above the ground but it will let you glide down safely from any height. I think it has 20 charges, each lasting 24 hours or until cancelled, but you can get lots of carpets if you do the repetable crafting quest to get enough tokens.
