spell - name of the spell
(#)   - indicates how much of an upgrade the spell is, as a factor of the previous one.

pwr   - power required for this spell
con   - concentration slots required, if any
maint - dur/(ct + rc), indicates how effective that spell is if chain casted
       (above 100% numbers indicate a possibility of affecting multiple encounter/NPCs)
trg   - type of target(s) possible

Level 51 spells and above are not gained automatically, they must be scribed.

Spell Components

A few Coercer spells require various amounts of Thoughstones as components:

  • 1 - Terrible Awe (25), Dreadful Awe (39), Breathtaking Awe (53)
  • 1 - Mind's Eye (4SMILEY
  • 3 - Channel (5SMILEY

Thoughtstones are generated if a mob is killed while the effect from any of the following spells is still in effect:

  • Sibyllant (23), Haruspex (37), Magus (51)
  • Despotic Mind (2SMILEY, Tyrannical Mind (42), Destructive Mind (56)
  • Spell Lash (40), Spell Whip (54)

Coercer Spells

Coercers main abilities revolve around mind control, focusing the mind and clouding it.

Coercers stun, pacify, befriend, control, impair, torment and subvert opponents into using their abilities against themselves.

Coercers focus, refresh, replenish and protect the minds of their group mates.

Coercer abilities can thus be divided up into atleast three main categories:

  1. Crowd Control (CC)
  2. Penalizers
  3. Group Enhancements

Targets and Coercer CC spells

Epic bosses are highly resistant to Coercer stun, stifle, root, mez, daze and fear effects.

Once in effect these spells will only last 1/3 the duration, after which time the boss will become immune to that effect for 3x the original duration.

All targets of stun, stifle, root, mez and daze spells will have increased resistance to the spell if the Coercer is 20 levels or higher than the level of spell being used.

Coercer CC spells

Mesmerize (MEZ) pacifies the target for a short duration or until it receives a direct hit.  In addition it also prevents area of effect damage (AE) to the target unless the target is selected directly as the recipient of the AE.

Coercers are very focused and can thus use spells from this spell line even when they are stunned, stifled or mesmerized themselves.  This spell line is the only one that allows this.

The Coercers signature spell is Charm.  These spells grant the Coercer control over the target, which can then direct the target to attack any enemy of the Coercer.

The quality of a charm spell is the sole factor in determining the effectiveness of abilities used by the target.

In addition the quality also affects the targets chance to resist and shrug off the spell.

This spell does not affect Epic bosses or some strong/special mobs (e.g. named mobs and mobs essential for some quests).

Medusa Gaze stuns the target for the duration of the spell, whilst draining a moderate amount of the targets power.

The power drain will break mez.

Coercers get one traditional root spell, which in addition to rooting the target will daze the target for a short duration.

These roots will not break mez.

There is a 5% chance for the root to break each time the target is damaged.

Ego Shock deals moderate upfront damage to the target encounter and then dazes the target encounter for a while.

This spell line will break mez.

The daze will break if the target receives damage.

Stupefy stuns an entire encounter for a short duration.

Stupefy will not break mez.

Terrible Awe mesmerizes a target encounter for a moderate duration in a 10m radius around the target (including the target) or until they receive a direct hit.

It does prevent area of effect damage (AE) to the target(s).

These spells require one thoughtstone.

Psychich Wail will stun 8 random targets in a 10m radius around the caster.  In addition this spell does significant damage to each individual.

Amnesia clears all hate from the target while stunning it for a brief moment. 

A small residue will cause the target to go after the Coercer as soon as the stun subsides.

With Possession the Coercer takes complete control of the target.

While the Coercer can use the targets abilities he can not have the target interact with the environment.

Unlike most spells the duration of this spell increases with each upgrade (Ad1 - 24s, Ad3 - 28s, M1 - 32s).

This spell does not affect Epic bosses.

Mind Shock interrupts the target (a really short duration stun) while also dealing some damage to the target.

Word of Force shares a recast timer with this spell line, but has a different spell effect.  Word of Force is a direct damage (DD) spell that causes magic damage and additionally, each time it hits, there is a small chance for additional magic damage.  Word of Force scales with the level of the caster.

The Cerebral Shock line transfers a portion of the targets power to the Coercer while dealing a small amount of damage to the target (5 ticks, 6s between ticks).

This spell can only be maintained on one target at a time.

Lashing Gaze drains a small amount of power from each member of an encounter, while dealing small amount of damage to each (4 ticks, 4s between ticks).

Dispel Magic is an offensive spell that removes beneficial magic effects from the target (i.e. it does not remove divine, mental, etc. effects).

Dispel Magic scales with the level of the caster and will dispel 1.1*lvl effect levels and costs about 1.35*lvl points of power.

At specific levels the Coercer may choose one additional race as a mortal enemy.

This will give the Coercer an additional damage ability when ever facing that race.

Master's Strike causes direct damage against the chosen foe.

This spell scales with the caster and costs about 1.83*lvl points of power.

Gloom reduces the targets resistance against magic, mental and divine damage while dealing a small amount of damage to the target (5 ticks, 6s between ticks).

In addition, upon termination, if the target has more than 50% power left then additional damage is delt.

Silence is the Coercers only stifle.

While under the influence of these spells the opponent can not use any ability that requires the expenditure of power.  At the same time a moderate amount of power is drained from the target.

The power drain will break mez.

Damaged Psyche weakens (DEBUFFS) the targets defences against all arcane magic by a moderate amount.

Sibyllant places an impairment on the target that will cause it damage each time the target does melee damage to anyone (3 times max).

If the target dies while these spells are in effect a thougtstone is granted to the Coercer.

Despotic Mind places an impairment on the target that will cause damage to the target each time it uses power (no max number of times).  The damage is a factor of power spent.

Unlike most spells these have a recurring power cost (power cost in table is total power spent).

If the target dies while these spells are in effect a thougtstone is granted to the Coercer.

Coercer group enhancing spells

Magi's Shielding is the Coercers only "defensive" stance.  It increases max hit points (hp), focus and defence.

This spell scales with the caster.

Cure Arcane is the last defence against hostile magic, divine and mental effects that have a duration.  Cure Arcane gives the Coercer the ability to dispel such hostile effects from them selves or their friends.

Cure Arcane scales with the level of the caster and will dispel 1.1*lvl effect levels and costs about 1.35*lvl points of power.

Consume Ego converts the health of the Coercer into power over time (6 ticks, 4s between ticks).  High mental resist mitigate the damage somewhat.

See Invisibility gives an ally the ability to see invisible entities.  This ability does not reveal hidden entities (or stealthed as per scouts) and can only be used on one target at time.

This ability scales with the level of the caster and costs 1.85*lvl in power.

Blink teleports the caster a short distance and reduces the hate from near by enemies towards the Coercer.  The Coercer needs to be careful though as this may startle friendly targets into attacking the Coercer.

Blink scales with the caster and costs 1.1*lvl points per cast.

Veil of the Unseen makes a single target invisible to all except those with See Invisible abilities.  This spell can only be maintained on a single ally.

Breeze clears and focuses the mind of group mates, allowing them to regain power faster (including while in-combat).

This spell line has no upgrades beyond lvl 52 (an upgrade existed in KoS beta but never made it live).

Empathic Link causes damage to all who attack the recipient with a spell.  Additionally, if the recipient is not a fighter or a pet, it reduces the hate gain of the recipient by a percentage of hate gained.

The recipient of this spell can be a group/raid friend.

(Bloodline Chronicles)

Reek of Terror is the Coercer only defence against attackers that simply wont give up.

Reek of Terror forces targets around the Coercer to flee in fear (max SMILEY and reduces aggression towards the Coercer.

This spell dispels if the attacker takes damage.

Mind's Eye opens the mind of group mates just a bit more, allowing them to regain power just a bit faster (including while in-combat).

Channel is one of the Coercers strongest power management spells as it allows the Coercer to redistribute power of all groupmates equally (at a slight loss).

This spell requires 3 thoughtstones.

Coercer fun spells

At level 5 the Coercer gets the first spell in a series of spells that have absolutely no effect on combat, indirect or otherwise.  These spells are purely for fun and are labelled by most as "fluff" spells.  Only one of these spells is granted automatically, while the others have to be bought from scholars at the library.

Bind Sight stuns the caster while allowing him to see through the eyes of another.

Bravo!  This should become every Coercer's first required reading.

And would you believe that, after all this time, I didn't know I could cast Stupefy on the run.

Very nice list. Only thing i'd like to see added if you have the inclination is level cap for when our spells stop working and you need to use next tier.

You're absolutely right ... I just verified that Stupify is interruptable ... the good news is that the upgrades are not ... I guess that means Stupify is bugged :smileyindifferent:

Stupefy line isnt bugged it got nerfed cause of pvp! tanks couldnt get close to coercers due to this spell during a rumble either so soe decided to nerf us yet again! /cry anyways its intended to work the way it does now sadly

Despotic Mind places an impairment on the target that will cause damage to the target each time it uses power (no max number of times).  The damage is a factor of power spent.

Unlike most spells these have a recurring power cost (power cost in table is total power spent).

If the target dies while these spells are in effect a thougtstone is granted to the Coercer.

I saw that catalystic mind has a nuke or at least a bigger dmg now on termination, when did the spell change coz it looks new to me lol*Applies Convulions on termination.   * Inflicts 1189-1429 mental damage on target.

Dmg based on master1 with 721int and + 310 spell dmg.The eq2players spell list doesn't has that effect on it atm http://eq2players.station.sony.com/...m?itemId=126240
