Quest asks you to trap 8 Planarshifter essence with Olvin's Traps, yet only give you 6 traps, i am 2 essences short, trap wont trap more then 1 planar shift, am now stuck

Once you have activated the traps, they are not always clickable. Some I can click and get the update, but some do not become clickable to pick up and get update. For some reason, its been inconsistant for me.  Some just remain a thing that appears, but no clickable region.

Edit:  Ok, I had to go back about 8,9 times for stacks to try over and over for clickable spots. That was very "want to pull your hair out" kinda situation....just fyi. SMILEY  Most would not show a clickable thing on the spawned glowing circle. Finally finished it, but took way too long to get any of the updates.

Since you have to get more traps, it would really be good to show quest giver on map while quest is in

progress.  Also, pretty sure there are no updates if my merc gets the kill.

just pull over trap and when u see animation that the ghost thingies are stuck for abit. then u can kill it and loot it.,

Ok, made some updates to this quest:

  • First off, the view predicates on the questgiver were all kinds of messed up. If you'd made it too far in the main line he disappearaed forever. Not good. Fixed that =)
  • I moved him slightly closer to the pond. He now appears just northeast of Giirn, if you know where that NPC is.
  • He now only requires 6 updates (and gives you 6 traps to begin with).
  • You can no longer update multiple traps from a single mob (you dirty, dirty cheaters!)
I wasn;t able to reproduce the situation where you can't slick the trap. They work every time for me. If anyone else experiences that issue, please let me know.

There is no group update for this quest. Makes it quite tedious.

Ah, I'll fix that.

Edit: How would you expect this to work for a group, considering you have to loot a used trap? Would you like it to function so that multiple people can lay down traps for the same NPC?

Couldn't one person picking up a used trap update all group members? Maybe pop up a loot reward box when a person is in group if a physical item is going into the inventory (I admit I didn't pay attention to whether or not that happened)?

If not, then what you suggested would be nice too (that was the first thing we tried after we didn't get an update for a single trap).

My comment was poorly worded and I apoligize if it came off as rude. As a player, I highly dislike quests that don't give group updates, since they generally discourage grouping. I disgree with your assessment of this quest's difficulty, however, and feel that grouping may make it too easy to complete. It does not use the "knock mob to X%" mechanic as you've suggested, you just have to drag the NPC over the trap and then harvest the trap (you can then feign off the NPC if you don't wish to kill it). I've been able to complete this solo in about 5 minutes by trapping then killing the NPCs. With group updates, a full group could quite easily complete it in under 2 minutes. That said, if the quest feels too lengthy to you when grouping, it will do so to other players as well, so I've erred on the side of not making it annoying, and changed it to group updates. The 33% flightspeed bonus has been removed from the quest in any event, so there's nothing there to justify a minor quest like this taking up additional time.

Hmmmm, I thought we had to knock the mob down to 30% health for the trap to capture it. I could be wrong but I seem to recall that being how it functioned when I ran it. Maybe we just didn't have the mob close enough until it was around that point each time. I'm assuming you're correct though; in which case yes, not being a group update would have been fine.

Was the flightspeed bonus being removed planned, or a result of making this a group update?

edit: Calthine has corrected me, she agrees that I am indeed wrong about the 30% health req... not certain where I got that from, maybe it was another quest. SMILEY

On the "drag the mob to the trap" mechanic, that was a little different and interseting with wandering lizardmen behind us.  I found it challenging 'cause the elementals have a ranged attack so you can't just walk over the trap and stop.

Thanks for the group update.  A group of three was having to range farther and farther to find elementals for us all to trap.

Found the quest fairly easy to complete, with just attacking the mob, and then positioning myself so that I was right under it, placing the trap and finishing off the mob.  Once done I'd harvest the trap.  Plenty of them around, so dont see it necessary to be a group update but will be appreciated when launch happens and when everyone is trying to get updates... now to see if people actually group or will fight for spawns as people tend to do normally, not thinking grouping will advance their quest faster.
