How Are We Notified When a Reply Is Posted?

When posting a message in the forum, although I always check the "Notify when a reply is posted" window, I have yet to receive a notification. At least, no notifications have ever been sent to the email address that I have posted in my Profile. Or, if they have been sent, I'm not getting them. Is there a problem with the notification system?
