Hiyas!

Question for you "local" folks: EQPlayers currently says "no heavy makeup" and "no masks" in the hotel. I can fully understand the mask thing - but what is considered "heavy makeup"?

If you want to go as darkelf ... wouldn't you need some pointy ears, white hair and at least blue/black facepaint? Or is that already considered "heavy makeup" by the hotel? If so I will just leave a bunch of costume things back here in europe.

Before the costume ball, SOE generally sets up an area you can get dressed in/apply makeup and so forth from what I understand, so you could get the basics of your costume done ahead of time and then put on the masks/heavy makeup/whatnot on site. There are usually bathrooms local to the convention halls that you could use as well. That said, as the pictures from last year show, we had 2 full body dark elves, so that's probably not as big a deal as you may think.

I was one of the full body dark elves and my paint was applied really quickly right before dinner.  I used a water based paint so it was easily washed off and didnt change my appearance except to make me blue. I have a feeling the heavy make up thing is either so you dont stain their linens and things and/or for security reasons so that you are easily recognizable.  I think facial prosthetics qualify as heavy make up.

I think the rule basically applies to the Casino in the hotel. People that wear masks, makeup etc. can count cards while avoiding the facial expression recognition software. So, card counters would take advantage of confernces such as this to slip in to the casino and do their thing.

If you don't have any gambling plans while in costume.. you should be fine.

Mantra, I've seen a quick preview of your costume. Outstanding my friend, outstanding. Although about 95% of the attendees (including SOE staff) would probably wonder who you're dressed up as!

I was robbed.  Also, I *should* have hit Brenlo with the whip.  That is all.

You should at least made a "whipping sound" with that whip of yours. SMILEY Also fun of having you hang with us MxO folks who knows how to throw a paarttteeeh till 7:15am LOL!!!

Regarding the Costume contest I think it's better to have 2 separate contests from custum hand made costumes to those Store bought ones which have better prizes for those who put the time and effort in making the costumes.

I agree, especially about the whip part.  I was waiting for you to take on Brenlo, but I came away disappointed.  On the other hand, he probably has the GM /kill command.

LOL!  Thanks for that pic, Heilig!  It's actually the best one I have so far of me in my costume.  So, the real reason I didn't hit Brenlo is that I have no idea how to use that thing...  I probably would have hit myself in the face!

No... see... you and I were both robbed, my druidic sister.  We both threatened Brenlo with our weapons, we both looked extrememly awesome and yet, we can not compete against the Dark Sith Lord and his well placed humor.  At least you got into the top 10.  SMILEY

I was at the bottom of the stairs trying to incite the other contestants to form a raid to take on the Epic Banana.  But no one was willing.  We had enough classes!  We could have taken him!!!

there was no love for The Captain.... I was representing the pirates of Everquest in the Buried Sea, but Pirates of the Burning Seas got the credit . I have not seen any pirates do magic in the Burning Seas.

All in All... it was a blast and the costumes were great. Well... not the guy that had a t-shirt wrapped around his head like a ninja. geee.

I didnt win anything is the contest but I hope I left you all with a magical memory.

Grats to all of the winners.

I couldn't believe you didn't get top ten with the outfit alone.

As far as Hand Made vers Store bought, while Vader was likly store bought, I am fairly certain the Var'shire(NOT Kerra Brenlo) and Iksar where both completly hand made, including molding the masks...though I am not 100% on the masks... So I don't know how you could be sure about seperating the too.

Also did you see the Female Dwarf(Brasse) running around(who didn't join the contest), she also completly handmade her's including all the leather work. Some people are just good at that kind of stuff.

Thanks Kela... I was busy putting my stuff away then getting a glow stick SMILEY

Most of mine was handmade... The Red coat I am proud of.

Ooo well... I did leave with a prize that mattered more to me. That was winning the Everquest Live quest. My group did great. This is something we work hard at when we do it. Buggers never told we what they named the team so I was surprised with they all jumped up screaming.

There's a couple when I was actually up on stage, but they're really dark and kind of blurry, the only other one I'm sitting down (and we know THAT wasn't easy), so you can't see the bottom half.

The captain was awesome and the magic was probably a first on stage! Great stuff and I hope that you might stop in next year for more of the same...talent contest anyone?

If you find the Vah Shir around ask him about the story behind the penguin on his staff, it's great! I'd share it with everyone but I probably wouldn't do the story any justice.

I am up for the talent and costume part of it. If it is in Vegas again I will be there!

I was hoping that adding a little more to it I would even make the top ten, but no luck. I guess the treasure was ment for others that day. SMILEY
