Since we've been told there is an expansion coming this year, and that it takes place in a new area in Norrath, I'm very perplexed to see what is coming with this expansion. It's almost July, so can any Dev's give an idea on when we can expect to hear an announcement?

I personally would like to see a contested version of the Underdepths added to Skyshrine. Perhaps via a long stairway behind that one droag boss in DP. This area could include a small follow up questline to the existing ones that reward you with some cool item of your choice; maybe a primary weapon, charm or cloak.

I think access to the new contested area should require either the reward you get from killing every boss in contested SS, or simply the completion of the current questline.

Obviously it would also be nice if they added another floor to skyshrine, doubling the contested and instanced content. Raise the level cap to 95, without trivializing existing loot/content, and let it stay there for a long while. Also, with the level cap, extend the prestige tree with some more replacement ability options; I like those. For what it's worth, I also think it's time to give priests (at least Templars) a prestige that cures the incurable, and can be cast while ____.

Oh oh oh... and since they'll probably be adding more faction gear (or a whole new faction, but I hope not). I think you should need the current faction gear + a token from the new dungeon to get the newer gear.

Out!

This is what was said in May during The Future of EQ2 Webcast.  (A transcript by EQ2Wire can be found HERE)

"

Expansion

It’s a content expansion, not a features pack. To be released this year. You’ll be visiting an area of Norrath that no-one has visited before.

Dave: “In fact it’s barely even been mentioned.”

Holly: “You’re going to see some new characters that have been referenced in the past that have not been seen in either EverQuest game.”

Dave: “We’ll have more information after E3, and leading up to the Qeynos revamp.”

Holly: “It will be levels. It will be prestige abilities. What you would expect from a content expansion from us.”

Then Dave hinted at some big feature which the team seems to be evaluating…

Dave: “Plus some other stuff we may be able to talk about soon.”

Holly: “Later.”

Dave: “It would be cool if we can do that.”

"

So the whole "expansions will now be feature based abd content will be GU" has been squashed after one of each then? Or am I reading it wrong?

(Clarification below,)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

September? No. They said clearly that they'll announce it before the GU64(Qeynos revamp) and the GU64 is currently scheduled in July. I guess we don't have to wait that long. And oh my, SOE live = this October.

More of DoV? No. It'll come as the form of GU. This expansion will be based on a whole new area which is only briefly referenced in the past.

April Fool? Nope. That webcast was released in late May.

And for Regolas, yeah this year's expansion will be a content exp, not a feature pack.

Last but by no means least, shouldn't this thread be moved to 'Expansions' category?

Here's a wild crazy guess.

You fight the nameless in his realm. Yep he's finally sick of reality and not quite pleased with the defeat of his avatar, the near destruction of the universe by a prismatic dragon, and one of the gods being killed with his avatars sword.  Now he's planning a hard restart of the universe and its up to us tiny little mortals to say "please no I cant let you do that" with the aid of the gods to send us to his dimension. When we finally defeat him we find out its Smed and that it's too late he restarted the universe and it's going to be EQNext.

Dun dun!

Didn't SJ already state it will be content heading toward, but not quite reaching, the final confrontation with the Sleeper?I remember seeing something to that effect in one of the videos SOE released.

So first we had Beastlords and the new pet/combat mechanics, then the SOEmote announcement, now apparently an all levels + prestige points zone. Anyone else get the feeling that EQ2 is becoming the public test arena for EQNext ?

I felt like this around the release of DoV. They had no problems doing it with EQ1 in for EQ2. Don't be surprised if all classes play like beastlords (combo points/savagery type mechanic, less bloated ability pool) and every class has 2 role stances, a viable DPS stance and then a 'role' stance such as utility, tank or healer.

I'd love some action combat mechanics as well but I doubt that will happen. Will probably be more like GW2 pseudo/fake action combat. "oh look we can dodge but you can also tab target and you don't have to aim so really doesn't mean anything"

I'm curious if the Rallos Zek timeline ends with DoV 2.0 and where the game goes after that.

I'm expecting an 'expansion' that only offers '2 more levels', so I'm worried where and how the story line continues from that point.

And honestly itemization and other things with such small increases scare the heck out of me.

I was under the impression that we would get content/feature/revamp-balance-bugfix patches in the future and not regular xpacs. Guess I was wrong.

I'm curious if their going to try and do something original, or if the mobs are going to knock you back, across the screen, disarm, or 50 feet in the air.

They didnt change their minds .. they changed their schedule, and that isn't really a change on their part, just your understanding and expectations of it.

SOE said content in GU's and features in X-packs ... That could be considered a lie by some that believed it in the first place, but the reality is F2P was suppose to be the holy grail of funding and continue to carry the financial burden.  F2P never, hasn't fulfilled it's promise and there fore the SC Subs were removed (so you all have no one to blame but yourselves).

DOV launch was (IMO) 1/3 of Velious, Sky is a shortcut and called DOV 2.0, iirc SJ has talked about additional DOV content and what might be involved and where it might go, but what you've forgotten is that someone needs to pay the bills.  So, if F2P isn't going to be paying then you (we) are.  it's that simple.  Now since you've (we've) all used SOE's short-sightedness on Triple SC and half price rebates to sub well into 2014, they are never going to get another dime from the memberships... which means paid Expansion.  No body to blame but your fellow player and December is X-Pack season, , so just buckle up and start reaching for your wallets now

So there you go... Hope that helps. SMILEY

Things sure do change.

"we're not selling areas and quests, and things like that anymore." That lasted all of 1 expansion pack. lol

Travel to Velious 2 and see what is there (new mobs, new npcs, new places no-one has ever seen before) .... it was announced from the beginning that DoV would be released in 2 half-parts ... and the second part was released some time before. So you got your expansion already

I guess there will be NO more expansion this year.

That's only because they made Skyshrine look totally different from how it looked in EQ1. SMILEY

Velious content:

  • February 2011 - launch
  • August 2011 - Drunder
  • April 2012 - Withered Lands and Skyshrine
  • ?? -- still a few areas to be released

There's been a webcast and podcast indicating there will be a content-based expansion this fall, likely the 4th week of November or first week of December. I wouldn't place any bets.

I agree with you on the complete failure of F2P, even if certain people always try to throw smoke in your eye and make you think it's all fun and roses in gaga land.

People are not at fault here though. We are simply using the mechanisms put in place by SOE, buying cheap SC, using it to pay for subs. Of course we do it, it's perfectly within the rules we have now. They may have removed the SC subs but the reality is that most of us already have bought years of it and are sitting pretty for a very long time.

Again, that is not our fault, it's SOE's fault for their lack of long term vision. SOE were only interested in short term profits and while they were nice, they affect their long term profits as those are now extremely low and will stay low for years.

So, who's fault it really is ?
