From different sources, I have gathered some information for a new comer to refer to:

STEP I - PC specs for running EverQuest II==============================

- Minimum requirement: Windows XP with SP3, Pentium 4 1.3 GHz or greater, 512 MB RAM (1 GB for Vista), DirectX 9 compatible video card. Pixel shader and vertex shader compatible hardware with 64 MB of HTMLure memory, DirectSound compatible audio hardware, 56k Internet connection, 14 GB hard drive space.

- Recommended requirement: Windows Vista/XP/Windows 7, Intel Core 2 2.4 GHz or greater, 2 GB RAM (XP), 4 GB (Vista/Windows 7), DirectX 9 compatible video card, NVIDIA 8800GTS/ATI 3850 pixel shader and vertex shader compatible hardware with 512 MB of HTMLure memory or greater, DirectSound compatible audio hardware, Broadband Internet connection, 14 GB hard drive space.

* above quoted from http://www.everquest2.com/faq#Q40

However, the game folder on my computer is now close to 30 GB, whilst not every zone I have visited, so make room for future game assets download.

In order to determine whether your computer meets the requirements, you could visit this site to check it out (cyri - Can You Run It).      http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/

This site would ask you to install some ActiveX plug-in, so if you are reluctant to do so, you could skip this checking.

STEP II - DirectX End-User Runtime Installation=================================

For EverQuest II, it is required to have DirectX 9 End-User Runtimes installed in your computer, go to the following site to download:

1)  DirectX End-User Runtimes (August 2009) - DirectX 9.27.1734 Date published: 9/8/2009 (103.3MB)    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...&displaylang=en

    or for a newer version

2)  DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010)   - DirectX 9.29.1974 Date published: 4/18/2011 (95.6MB)    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...ls.aspx?id=8109

    or for a current version downloaded and installed via Internet

3)  DirectX End-User Runtimes Web Installer  - DirectX 9.29.1974 Date published: 4/18/2011 (286KB)    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...ails.aspx?id=35 If your computer has already DirectX 10 or 11 installed, it will not affect the existing DirectX 10 or 11 installation.

STEP III - Download the EverQuest II Launchpad (game installer)======================================== ======

There are two versions of Launchpad, one is to download a minimum amount of game assets and then streaming the rest (and the assets when needed) during game play, the other is to download about 9 GB of assets before you are able to start playing.  I would recommend the streaming mode which will give you a quick start.

1)  EQ II Launchpad (Streaming Downloading)    http://launch.soe.com/installer/EQ2...aming_setup.exe

2)  EQ II Launchpad (Full Asset Download)    http://launch.soe.com/installer/EQ2_setup.exe This is the official link - http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=509747. Store the downloaded Launchpad setup .exe file in a folder, I recommend to store Launchpad in the same folder where the game is to be installed, by doing so, as long as you run Launchpad from within the folder, the Launchpad is accessing the same directory.  The default location usually is:

    drive:Sony Online EntertainmentInstalled GamesEverQuest II

because you could also install EverQuest (EverQuest Live) on the

    drive:Sony Online EntertainmentInstalled Games

Run the Launchpad installer EQ2_Streaming_setup.exe or EQ2_setup.exe.  It will ask you if you want to (a) Install a new copy (new installation), (b) Reinstall / Repair or (c) Uninstall.  For this task, choose "Install a new copy".  Then it will ask you to "Choose Install Location". Choose the location where the Launchpad is stored.

Another directory will be created:

    C:Documents and SettingsAdministratorApplication DataSony Online Entertainment      DigestsEverQuest II

This directory contains information exchanged/communicated between the game server and the game client.

STEP IV - Start playing EverQuest II=========================

Running the Launchpad the first time, the Launchpad will automatically configure the game performance  settings according to your computer's hardware capability.  You could alter those settings in game.

If you encounter any performance issues such as low memory or you have too many applications running on background, you could consider using the following free tools:-

    1)  Game Booster (now is version 3.4.0)        "Game Booster 3 is capable of delivering the best gaming experience to you even if you have an        old PC. One-click to boost PC performance is not enough, Game Booster 3 also allows you to        tweak your system for top PC performance. By temporarily shutting background processes and         unnecessary Windows services, cleaning RAM, and intensifying processor performance, Game         Booster 3 concentrates every little system resource for gaming only." - quoted from the         following web site:

        http://www.iobit.com/

    2)  Memory Cleaner (now is version 1.60)        "Memory Cleaner (aka MemClean) is a tool that optimises your RAM usage by checking running        processes and the system cache." - quoted from the following web site:

Have fun!
