Since AoD was released, I suspect there has been a significant jump in the memory usage of EQ2. I often see my client close to, or well over 2GB of memory being used to run the game. If I recall correctly, before AoD the figures were usually half a GB lower (1.3 to 1.7GB).Has anyone else noticed abdnormally high memory usage by the everquest2 executable? I ask, because after todays patch I have seen a lot of people complaining on level chat about cold crashes. I am not talking about crashing while zoning. This is crashing while running around doing stuff, and EQ2 is suddenly gone. It seems a logical connection that increased memory demands and random player crashes may be connected.I am fortunate enough to have 16 GB of RAM available, but not everyone will be in the same position. I am yet to "crash" outside of the zoning bug, but I have had my client start to become sluggish. I hope this is something SOE is looking into, as both memory usage, and client crashes, can affect game playability for players new and old.

I think the new launcher has a pretty big footprint too, so if they upped the memory usage of the executable I could see how that could lead to problems.

Yup both me and another of my guildmemembers have been noticing this as well.  EQ2 has also been plagued with memory leaks ... so I'm sure that contributes.

Check the first two pages of the Tech Support - General and Performance forums. It's widespread.

Seems even worse for me after the patch today. Chunk chunk chunk, stutter stutter, chunk.

Memory usage for EQII has a good amount to do with how much assets are needed.  As the game has grown to over 13GB, it has the potential to consume that much memory (if it wanted to put its entire set of assets there).

This is not indicative of a problem.  A 13GB game could potentially use 13GB of memory.  Thats the point of the memory.

For you specifically, as I will need to help the other people on a case by case basis, this thread may help you a great deal with the sluggishness, http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=506883

No matter how much memory you have, Windows won't let an application address more than 2GB by default.  The thread above outlines a method in which you will allow the application to use much, much, more.  More data in memory is a good thing if your system can handle it and it doesn't emphasize a pre-existing issue with the system or memory itself.

Hello JoshuaMI want to thank you for your reply, clearly made with good intentions. But I need to correct some information you have wrong, and the person who posted the link you provided has wrong.I have done a stock standard install of Win7 64 bit, made no system parameter changes etc, all stock. EQ2 is currently using 2.6 GB of memory. So the claims of the person you linked, and that you repeated, that Win7 64 bit can not allow a 32 bit application to use more than 2 GB of memory, are conclusively proven false. That part is not up for debate. If you actually look up information (from microsoft) regarding the /4GT, commonly called /3GB, it is very specifc relating to 32 bit operating systems, and a 4GB total RAM capacity, seperating 3GB for client use and 1GB for system use.In short, everything I have actually looked up thus far, indicates /4GT is designed for 32 bit machines, and I have seen undisputable evidence with my own eyes that EQ2 can use far over 2GB of memory using stock system settings on 64 bit machines.I suggest you immediately cease issuing the advice you linked to me, to anyone who is not running a 32 bit operating system. The person you are repeating does not provide accurate information.Letting EQ2 have more memory is not the problem. It is very evident that the memory leaks which became worse with AoD, are consuming and hogging resources at an accellerated rate, which is why you are confronted with a wall of posts about crashes and memory. The problem needs to be tracked, and fixed quickly, because this one is a nasty one.If you have any questions about my memory usage, PC configuration, or any other information, feel free to shoot me a PM.Edit to add: Just hit 2.8 GB of memory usage.
