IMO:

Make sure you are using poison and have as many proc's as are available to you on your weapons.

Sniping shot followed by Triple shot before the mob gets to you.

Heroic opp followed by cheapshot, move behind/to the side of mob, shrouded strike to stealth and shadow lunge to finish heroic opp.

Lunging thrust, leaping cut, rip, heroic opp, corner, lightning strike.  Hit additional CA's as they become available if still not dead.

You trouble against what kind of mobs?If you're having trouble with [< orange] solo mobs (even multiple encounter ones) then you must do something "wrong"(heh SMILEY)Anyway i concur with the earlier post with most parts#1 check your poisons, its worth to pay some golds to get the legendary T4 poisons (not online so of course dont remember the names), but go for small DoT and as large as possible upfront dmg ones#1 b) USE THE OFFENSIVE STANCE (arrow flurry)#2 max the distance between the mob(s) before you start.#3 start with either a) your most powerful ranged attack from the back (so it wont miss) or b) start with sniping shot, i suggest that you use the b) and after that follow with a) just like the above poster said#4 when the mob gets to you, immediately cheap shot stun it, take few back steps and shoot the flaming shot, if the mob dont have any up arrows, proceed and shoot another ranged attack which you have ready (i'd suggest wounding arrow, since it debuffs)#5 if you have trouble with the mobs in melee (if they havent died already that is), switch to defensive stance or/and kite them (if ya are not familiar with kiting, search these forums, you'll find multiple posts and some guides how to do it)#6 if all other fails, be patient. Study the mobs, are they casters, does someone heal, does some mob stun/stifle, etc... And you really would hate to have adds during your fight, so... learn to know your surroundings.Thats about it, hopefully you'll find some of that info useful.*EDIT*and like the previous poster said, use your HO's!Oh, to the OP:s question about the "best" CA lineup for soloing... There is'nt such (imo). You have to cope and play with the CAs you have ready and learn to fight accordingly. DONT try to beat too powerful mobs, the risk vs reward is not surely worth it. When soloing, stick with max yellow solo mobs. And for some situations, some CAs are better than others, the cheapshot backpedal rangedattack combo is MY favourite, i very rarely use the flank attack + backstab, BUT i do use it of course. Anyway, HAPPY HUNTING! :smileyvery-happy:++Xan

Whats not mentioned is when you get into 40's tatics change some, specially once into 50's. And this may all change again with poison revamp. But, while using snipe and culling herd etc is good openers, they actually have less chance to produce stun procs cause they are single arrow ca's. This means your proc is limited to one shot, where as you could lead with sharp shot or triple arrow lines, giving yourself 2+ arrows for chances for procs, plus Sharp shot is a good choice cause of its faster recharge rate, time you finish others it will be back up. THis is however for when your using stun poisons, which you want the most chance off the start to proc a stun so more arrows landing the better. Also, its not always viable to switch to the newer skills. What i mean by this is resistability of your CA's. For instance, if you have a master 2 Triple shot in your 40's and switch to the 50's version at adept 1, you lose 20% resistability, making it more useful for time being to use that lower level skill longer, as the dmg increase is small, but the ability to hit with it on higher level mobs is greater. Also, Primal Agility vrs Primal reflexes. Myself I still use Primal Reflex master 1 at lvl57, with its 43% hate reduction. I do this cause can't justify spending 1+ plat to get a adept 3 for only 3-4% more reduction, just isn't worth it, instead upgrade Improved Surveil and Evasion, to better versions, where the money is moer useful, however this is only if you have master one of Primal Reflexes.

Obviously I AM doing something wrong...:smileysad:

I normally play a healer or a tank, but lately I've been enjoying my ranger, leveling him from 28 to 48 in about a week in RE and CT. Most all the time, I've been grouped, and my ranger rocks!

However, trying to solo in SS, I found myself in difficulties. I do well against even conned solo mobs, but have problems against groups at my own level. My gear is not the best, I'm not wasting my plats at the broker, but I have a couple fabled items.

I have been using only one poison (normally a high damage one), not being aware that poisons stack. That my be part of the explanation... However, some of the suggestions presented puzzles me:

When fighting solo mobs, I always follow rules number one and two.

I normally start my attack with triple shot (MasterII), but I never get a chance to use a second ability before the mob is too close...?

As suggested, I use cheap shot and thus get to use another CA (normally only one), then I have to fight melee. Often, kiting is not an option (being in dungeons or surrounded by aggroing mobs). So, exactly what am I supposed to do?

And what tactics should be used when fighting group encounters? My AoE attacks all require stealt, and have hardly any use when soloing. How should I go about to defeat these encounters?

Finally, could someone please explain how these "procs" work. As noobish as it seems, I haven't figured out the meaning behind that term...

As suggested, I use cheap shot and thus get to use another CA (normally only one)You fighting heroics? Or uparrow solo ones? Well, then ya only get 1 CA, because the stun is too short for more.then I have to fight melee. Often, kiting is not an option (being in dungeons or surrounded by aggroing mobs). So, exactly what am I supposed to do?You fight melee, turn defensive stance on if ya getting hit a lot. When cheapshot comes up, 1st turn off stance back then cheapshot and backpedal and shoot! SMILEY (or use backstab thingys, whichever you'd prefer) After that you could trun def stance back if theres still mob(s) which you have to melee.
And what tactics should be used when fighting group encounters? My AoE attacks all require stealt, and have hardly any use when soloing. How should I go about to defeat these encounters? You could se natural selection as an opener, target the weakest member OR the healers / other spellcasters in the group. They tend to stop casting spells when coming to you, so you'll have atleast a chance to fire another CA maybe even 2 before they come to ya (should be dead by then anyway SMILEY).Lvl 50, you get Storm of Arrows, a very nice AoE bow CA... You'll love it! SMILEY
Finally, could someone please explain how these "procs" work. As noobish as it seems, I haven't figured out the meaning behind that term...
Procs... hmm what is it you dont understand in these?Procs are things that... eh, proc SMILEYMeaning they have a certain chance of going of when using melee or bow attacks (latest change is that your melee weapon procs no longer go off when firing your bow, they require you to be in melee to continue proccing)So, chance to proc = chance to go off (does this explain the term proccing if thats what you were figuring out?)The ACTUAL chance to proc is calculated with a formula, which is something like : ( your weapons delay / 3.0 x proc chance )Example with a 1.2s delay weapon with a 25% chance to proc poison would give:[1.2 / 3] x 25 = 10 % actual chance of proccing with EACH hit you make So, it means that the lower your weapon speed is, the better your actual chance of getting a proc off. Thats why our 7.0s delay longbows proc so much since CA hits are counted also (and other proc hits, like other poison or offensive stance hits)Dunno if this helped ya, but ask more if needed SMILEY
