Yes, but even trade (day down, day up) doesn't begin to take care of my disappointment with this thing.  I, as many, had the day off and was particularly looking forward to a long run in CMM or Unrest.  But, of course, that's not going to happen now.

When customers are really inconvenienced, good companys that are sensative to them and want to remain competive will EXCEED their customers expectations.  It seems to me another solution to a free month would be what was said earlier...a weekend of 2xExp.

AFAIKS there is a server called "test" so why this stupid testing on LIVE servers?

Hmm different strokes I guess?

Seems to be an influx of singleshot high levels camping areas in a lot of places now too (and being damned RUDE about it, locking XP down so they can MAX greenfarm linked mobs), looks like people have sold their accounts to the goldfarmers and gone elsewhere... wonder if it has something to do with the odd lagspikes and freezeups since the LoN "testing"?

Not interested in LoN myself so maybe they should make it an OPTIONAL download??

Suck it and see SOE.

(The following information is my *Opinion* alone)
.
.
To sum up:
.
Today a scheduled patch was performed (Called a hotfix by some).  This was scheduled for 7AM Pacific Standard Time. (PST).  Thus, the servers all came down for approximately 45minutes.  So at 7:45am PST, the servers came back up, and everyone (besides the server(s) that were not patched/international), had a new small, download of the new code.
.
Immediately people began reporting bugs in the game, ranging from Mounts dissapearing upon zoning, or 'remounting' on zoning to obtaining dozens or more AA's by zoning.
.
.
What this was?  Some how, some bug in the code, caused whatever previous quest/action/buffs etc that existed before the servers went down on each character to remain.  They did not update.  For example, for me, it was 3 Writ quests I had completed but not turned in.  So, after I turned them in, I zoned, and low and behold.. They were completed again.  (Zoning caused the 'reset' so to speak).  So I could proverbially turn in writs just by zoning , over and over again.  There are/were many other issues, but it seems it was likely tied into one thing.  (Find and fix it, problem solved).
.
.
Where does this leave the players?
.
Well -- The servers remained online (after patch) for an hour, at least.. Some are calling it closer to two .  (I am just estimating).  So, with the mention of rollbacks, et al.  It would seem most likely that a rollback of the time that existed between 7:45am PST (When patch was applied and servers came up) and around 9:45PST-10am PST (When the servers were taken down due to the numerous glitches, bugs, etc.. -- Would be reasonable.
.
Why?
.
Well, many issues were minor,.. and would not effect things much.  Even a little extra experience wouldn't be so big.  However, people who obtained hundreds of AA's, or worse, Abilities that 'dissapeared' would need to be corrected.  So the logical choice would be to roll it back 2 hours or so.  Yes, people are going to be upset with time lost, items lost, experience lost, and so forth.
.
.
What should Sony do to compensate, and what is likely (imo) ?
.
.
Due to the time lost, (if a rollback occurs), and time lost due to the servers being offline,.. Double Experience modification should be in place for the weekend.  -- Monetary compensation is highly unlikely.  I think most people would/will be happy with double experience in Combat and AA.  Aside from those who have tapped out at 70/100 (Or whatever the maximum AA allotment gained is).  It is basically a situation where there is no 'win-win' solution.  I will be quite surprised if servers are all brought back up without at least Experience modification in place.
.
.
The updates have been 'decent' - Everyone wants updates, on the hour, but it's really frustrating to update with 'We're still working on it, no ETA' .. Everytime.  Nor, are they going to disclose technical details of the problem.
.
As of now, At least a login server is up.  So you can get to your character screens, and take note of when your server is back online. (It may be in 2 seconds, 2 hours, or even , god forbid, Saturday afternoon.) -- I would venture , imo, servers should be back up in the next hour, judging by the Test/PVP being up, login being up, and the tone of the last update.
.
.
Also, I use the '.' to space between paragraphs.. For some odd reason breaks do not work for me.  All spacing done in this forum software on this computer gets taken away, and its one large lump of text.  (If anyone knows why, I'd love to know) .
Again, this is all my opinion,.. nothing official, and certainly not deemed to be accurate. (Aka, don't pick it apart, or flame me please) SMILEY
Take care,

Well, I was at a cinema not all that long ago when the screen and sound cut out for about 5 minutes.  Upon leaving everyone was given a token for a free cinema ticket (any film, date and time of our choosing) without having to ask.  It's good customer service. And on the IP transit line there used to be at my old work, there was an automatic 1 day refund for every hour of downtime.  Needless to say, we never had any downtime as the incentive was there for it not to fail.  Good customer service.Summmary:  people just want good customer service, it's not moaning

Haven't you noticed before that the Euro servers hardly ever appear on the list.  I think that us players on the Euro servers are invisible to them until it comes around to time for the monthly subscription.

It amuses me that you're the only person to have mentioned this.  The "recent hotfix that has nothing to do with LoN" only had one fix in it directly related to LoN, so I don't understand how it can have nothing to do with it!

Maybe because the patch notes don't always contain every little detail about every single change that they make in a patch?  I agree it would be nice if the patch notes were complete, but that also means they might end up being several pages long listing a whole bunch of little stuff that pretty much no one cares about, overshadowing the one or two things that people do actually care about.

Vonotar wrote:

So considering the lack of update notes, there was either an attempt at a ninja nerf (which has caused this zoning error) or it was LON that caused the problem.

It never ceases to amaze me that people always assume any change that isn't listed in the patch notes is a "ninja nerf".  Sure ninja nerfs do happen, but that doesn't mean every unlisted change is a ninja nerf.  Anyone who thinks otherwise knows nothing about software development.

EQ2Magroo wrote:

There's nothing in the patch notes about a change, so either this change was so small it didn't warrant a change update (er, hello, all the servers are hosed, that's not a small change) or somebody rolled out a dodgy version of the game code by mistake that has some hard-coded references to the wrong databse e.g. TEST or backup system (my current theory).

Armchair developers always amuse me.  You do realize how utterly ridiculous that theory is right? SMILEY

Same with Splitpaw. We were unaffected by the bad patch but it seems a 'log-in problem' is keeping us out longer. I'm sure they'll address it once all the US servers are back up SMILEY

I hate company screw-ups more than most people and often say that there is a test server for a reason. I still have to say this however:Sometimes problems don't show on the test server. Certain problems might only show up once they are on live servers. This might sound odd, but it happens. That's why certain things that might seem obvious they should've been noticed cause havoc on the live servers.

that was the cinema where they rn a guarantee that if your film i8s interupted they do that. this is an online game and is governed by a difrent set of rules and if sony start giving free month subs ect then every time a little glitch happens you wil lhave masses of pwople demamnding sony give money back ect. the xp weekend is a better option and one that most like.

And customer servise is the thread thats being posted keeping us up to date by gnobrin each tie servers are coming up hes posting and keeping us up to date and sorting the fix out.   My hats off to the games team and keep up the good work. we all hit snags once in a while. dont let the moaning get you down

A month?  The servers have only been down a day.  When the Argent Dawn server was down a couple of weeks ago for two days, Blizzard reimbursed us with 2 days off our bill.  Which probably is what SOE should do, one day down, one day off bill...
A little trick we used to use in the cable tv industry..was we happily give refunds when people demanded them. The trick being this. We refunded them the time they were down only. So..at $14.99 a month, their 5 hours of downtime came to something like .12 cents. It was probably an eye opener to a lot of people as to just how cheap per hour their cable tv was. The server has been down close to six hours right? So..you would get a refund of like .20 cents. :-/

I am 'venturing' that the appropriate roll-back would be that amount of time, due to that is the time frame upon which the bugs existed.
.
It is known that while the servers are down or even locked, the Character select screen is not always accurate.  It will update when the server comes back up.  (I recall being naked, or having very different gear than 'current&#39SMILEY At the Character Select screen in the past.
.
It would surprise me if they rolled it back to a 'Pre-Wednesday' condition.  That would make no sense.
.
.
In any manner, a few servers came online, so others are soon to follow I'm sure, (if, they got things 'fixed&#39SMILEY.
.
As for the raids, its 5:43EST and 2:43PST -- Usually they start around 5PST - 7CST,.. Your raids start at 4-5CST/5-6EST?  (You could be on a different time zone, (ie: International).. But seems odd.
