Pretty much because you don't understand what the AA cap is actually for. The cap is on AA you can spend, not AA you can earn.

The same reason I can own 13 coffee mugs and only have 2 hands.

There is no cap on earned AA.

There are several caps on usage until you have filled other categories, or reached certain levels to unblock the category you want to fill.

So I am brand new to the RAF side of things here...

And this thread confuses me - at level 10 I am grouped with my RAF inviter, I put all my exp to 100% AA - but when I kill stuff it says you have converted your exp to 1 pt of AA... Even if I move my exp bar to 10% AA I get experience for the kill and it converts exp to 1 pt of AA...

What am I missing? it took all night just to get 5AA's so I am definitely missing out on something here - and my inviter had no clue as well.. He thought it was possibly because he was lvl 80ish and mentoring me.

Any help would be appreciated

Just a bug with reporting how much you got. You were getting the correct amount, but it just didn't tell you correctly.
