Why can't we have better monk animations instead of the stupid magical partical effects like I'm casting a spell.  For crying out loud SOE...I'm a monk, not a [Removed for Content]' magic user.

I just don't understand the "stand straight up in the middle of a fight and point to the sky" stance that I do to start my HOs, and then the silly spell graphics that  follow.

Give me better/more fighting graphics instead.

Oh no! We live in a world full of MAGIC and its not fair that my Mundane Martial Arts make pretty sparkly lights...

But I'm not a magic user...I'm a monk.  That's my point.

There is a Roleplaying reason I play a non-magic user...but that's impossible in this game.  All classes have pretty lights and explosions, whether they are considered magic users or not.

I don't want pretty light and explsions like a mage.  If I wanted that I would play as one.

It's just plain silly that there are sparkles in the air when a monk kicks a gnoll and shimmers in the air when I slap one.

I don't know, maybe it's just me...but it's another example of the lack of immersion in this game.  Makes me feel like I'm playing one of the Final Fantasy games on the PS1....and I don't like that.

What do you want to happen? Your combat arts are basically you using your power (mana) to increase your dmg. Do you want to just have an animation and then nothing? It would be very boring to just look at someone doing basic martial art moves all day.. some of the skills are made cool by thier animations.. If you dont like them, dont use them..

Call me crazy but yes...that's what I want.  Zero pretty lights and more/better fighting animations.  We are fighters...not magic users.

I didn't think a monk fighting in EQ1 was boring.  Nice fighting animations made it look cool.

There's no way to not use them.  Even turning all the spell stuff off in options leaves them on.

Here is an idea, turn down/off your partical effects. Problem solved no more flashy lights.

Is it just me, or can "roleplayers" just not enjoy anything in online games?

I see where yer comin from. You wanna be a pure "im kicking yer [FAAR-NERFED!] because im a bad mofo, not because I use magic" kinda fighter? I can somewhat relate because id feel more...idk..skillfull? Just seeing me do all these martial arts moves with no lights or explosions.

most of the animations monks use are class specific.  all the other classes use the same animations.  sure more fancy animations would be neat, but i'd sooner have soe working on bugs, mechanics, and content.  they could give us more animations.  then the guardians will want some fancy animation of them throwing themself in front of an attack meant for a cleric or something.  then the wizards will want voice emotes of some galdalf quote when they nuke.  just seems silly to me to be askin for something like animations while class ballancing is still an issue, and mobs are still attacking from under-world.  you can't have it all.

In my opinion the monk animations with a bo staff are some of the best in the game.  It's just fun to watch if you like martial arts.

To the guy who doesn't like the sparkly effects turn them down in your options like someone else noted.  And come on, it is a FANTASY game.

My monk's power is so great that when he harnesses his chi for a blow it excites electrons in the air and causes the air around his fists and weapons to glow.

I'm sorry that your monk is so weak that he doesn't have that....   /shrug

There's a scholar near the fountain in Starcrest Commune... I forget the name... anyway, talk to them, they'll explain it for you. Basically, you ARE using magic. All of us are. With the exception of the basic strike moves like Kick or Flying Kick, we're using magical fighting techniques taught by a monastic order that enabled us to defeat the Rallosians. It's kind of like the roleplaying game "Earthdawn", where all the player characters are magical adepts of some kind, even the warrior ones.So in summary, whilst roleplaying is fine and very definitely to be encouraged, it does have to stay within the parameters of the game world; sadly for those who prefer "straight" martial arts, the EQ2 world is magic-heavy.

As someone else had mentioned in this thread, for RPing reasons I also think of it as "chi".

Well I think what you're talking about might be a bug.  Or might not.  I find that when I group with a mage, one of my spells performs a mage animation (crossing your ankles, bending down and wrapping your fists together).  I have never seen this animation solo.

I'm not sure if its an animation bug or something the mage buffs you with.  Since it causes no gameplay issues I just ignore it.
