Edit hit wrong key.

I got this at adept 3 and tryed it out for last couple of days and saw no noticable increase over are level 48 one. The scout out still out dps it on heroics , epics and solo stuff. I try to get around to running some logs to prove it just have'nt had time. I was hopeing to have it do 4 and 5 k blasts it rarley hits over 1k and for the hps it has not worth casting it.

I agree.  I've never been a fan of my Mage pet.  I barely ever use him.  Now I admit, that's probably the reason right there that he's not my favorite: b/c I haven't learned how to use him.  So I'm all ears if people want to give me any advice.Right now, I just see it as sort of a waste to only have an Attack button with this pet.  That works with the tank and scout pets enough.  But with a caster pet?  I feel like the Pet Hotbar should have been modified to include the spells you see your Mage pet has when you go into Posess Minion.  Right now, it's just too random.  And if your Mage pet lands too many of his nukes at once, he steals aggro and goes down. This is the number one reason why I don't like this pet.  You just can't seem to control him the way yuo can the others.  Most times I summon him, he gets off a few decent spells.... maybe comes close to about a 900 hit.  And then steals aggro and dies in 2 hits.Suggestions?

Pets don't upgrade like that. Their abilities linearly upgrade as they level, much like player spells used to before Live Update 13 (and like some spells continue to do, like Word of Force and Magi's Shielding). IE: The difference between a level 61 Igneous Magi and a level 62 Igneous Savant (both of the same rank) is slightly more damage. Most pets as you upgrade receive new abilities as you get new versions. For example, Tellurian Champion will have a new combat art that Tellurian Myrmidon does not, Aery Hunter has a new combat art that Aery Stalker does not, and Igneous Magi has a new spell that Igneous Adept does not. If you possess your pets, you will see that. The only pets I've seen that do not follow this rule are Igneous Magi and Igneous Savant.

Igneous Magi Adept 3 has outdamaged Aery Hunter Adept 3 in *every* parse I've ever done except in cases where there is only one mob and the fight is more than 40 seconds. Here are the differences.  Understand them and understand your pets.Igneous Magi (and Savante, etc)This pet has numerous AE attacks.  In order to make this work to your advantage you MUST do a couple things. The most important step is to find the STRONGEST mob in the group you are pulling.  That is the target you want your pet attacking, and further, the target you want your MT taunting.Realize that you CAN use Blazing Presence right off the top with a Mage pet.  They attack more slowly, and their damage builds over time.  This pet utilizes a number of DoT spells that do good damage, but take time to do their work, a lot like a Conjuror.  SMILEYIn raid situations, you can often use BP twice or more in a fight because of the nature of the pet.  With the right tank, you can even lead with Elemental Vestment and really burn those adds down.A typical opening sequence with this pet:Blazing Presence (pre-pull)/pet attack (strongest mob)Pyro(technics / mancy)Shattered LandFlash FloodElemental VestmentFrigid WindsSwarm of BatsFiery AnnihilationSnapping MandiblesCalcifyFlash FloodAt this point, it's a good bet the only thing left alive is the main mob.Aery HunterThis pet has no AE attacks.  His advantage lies in how quickly he attacks.  He's unbelievably fast. The most important thing to realize with this pet is that he's going to open up big.  If you precast Blazing Presence, it's a good bet that both you and your pet will be dead.  You can use BP, but you need to time it so that you have it active in the last 15% of a mob's life.  With this pet, most likely you only get to use BP once in a fight. However, Elemental Vestment is a monster on this pet.  The Mage pet is more measured, and you can pace your own casts to create the EV proc.  With a Scout pet, you simply cast anything you have as fast as possible.  Due to the speed of the strikes from the pet, the EV proc is going to go off almost immediately.A typical opening sequence with this pet might be:/pet attack (target of the MA)/target strongest mob in groupPyro(technics / mancy)Aqueous SwarmElemental VestmentShattered LandsFlash FloodFrigid WindsSwarm of BatsFiery AnnihilationSnapping MandiblesThe trick here is that as your MA switches targets you have to keep sending your pet after the new target, which cuts into his chop time some.  This is where a good deal of the DPS potential of the Scout pet is lost when fighting encounters of multiple targets.  You have to keep sending your pet against the different targets. But honestly, in over 80 raids, I've never seen my Scout pet SIGNIFICANTLY outdamage my Mage pet in any encounter.  Both are Adept 3.  The Mage pet simply does better work because he rarely needs to be redirected.  Yes, I've seen instances where the Scout pet is marginally a better choice.  Things like The Prismatic Captain, Wolan Lakado, Brius Lakado . . . single targets with NO other encounter members.I never have a problem with the Mage pet pulling aggro unless I get REALLY stupid and fail to give the MT 15 seconds or so to claim aggro before Elemental Vestment.  If I don't think the MT can hold the aggro, I simply don't cast Elemental Vestment.  The Mage can do SOOO much damage across an encounter it takes a VERY special MT to hold that aggro.  I am fortunate in that my guild has multiple tanks capable of holding aggro against the damage output of a wide open Mage pet.Consider putting AA's into the Magic Leash line.  The AA starts at -770 threat every 30 seconds and goes up from there.

My experience has been that the Fire pets do substantially more damage than the Air pet.

I'm at 61 and still prefer my Fire Pet (4SMILEY over my Air Pet (60) for quantitative damage.

Used properly, my fire pet will kill low-level mobs much faster than the air pet and will do more damage in a group/raid.

The savant may not drop 5k nukes, but its casting and recovery times are tremendously fast. Personally, I prefer it this way because I could only imagine what other classes would be screaming if 5K hits were coming out of our pets, even if it were once every 45 seconds.

As Xalmat said, the Savant will grow in power as it levels with you. Wait till Savant is level 70, I think you will be thoroughly impressed with its damage ability. ( Throw in BA and EV and be even more impressed )

Actually...

Your 48 pet scales past 61...

I am 63 right now and my 48 pet gets conjured as a 63.  My dumbfire pet when summoned is only 62.

I am sure its a bug and will be correct but I thought I would mention it.

When I am grouping, I take the dungeon into consideration.  If the dungeon is mainly 1 mob ^^^ encounters, then I use the scout pet.  If it is a lot of grouped incounters, then I use the mage pet because of the AOE factor.

The only time I can find a use for my fire pet is when duoing with another caster. When duoing you want at least tripple arrow ups for good exp, and while the tank pet can survive agaisnt tripple arrow ups; It is a slow and mana consuming process to maintain it. So when duoing with another caster you can both keep the mob rooted and attack from a distance using the fire pet.
