Been using nerius pirate sword for awhile, which is now blue to me at 29. It has the stats of 28-84 with 2.5 delay. My attack rating with this sword was 473. I just bought a chaosforge warhammer. This hammer rates at 25-75 with a 2.0 delay and showed on a DPS calculator as being "better". My skill with sword and great hammer are both at 145, yet when i equip the hammer my attack drops to 317. Why? Hammer cons orange, sword is blue.

![]() Because it uses a diffeent skill, you telling me you made to level 29 and didnt realize a sword and hammer use a different skill? Dude hit the EQ2 button, look for skills on the menu, click and read, learn it, know it. Almsot every different type of weapon has a skill associated, much like almost every different action has a skill associated to it. Your max level determines the max you may have in the skill, based on any class/race restritions. As a warrior type it is always best to try and keep them close to max, does have to be max, just close enough so that your not stunted when yuo find as better weapon then you use, that uses a different skill.

Jesus, i guess i have to spell out the obvious, my great sword and great hammer skills, which the nerius sword and the chaos forge both use are both at 145. Yes i'm fully and 100% aware of weapon skills and that was the first thing i checked.

Great sword and great hammer skills auto-increase based on level and are mainly just there to allow you to use the higher level weapons as you level up. Your mistake is that your actual skill at using the sword is based on a skill called "slashing" and your skill with a hammer is based on a skill called "bashing" (pretty sure it's bashing but not positive). Your attack rating depends on these skills.

Bashing? Man, are you kidding? It's Crushing. No offense, but what level is your SK? I find it difficult to believe you don't know the term "Crushing." ![]() |

![]() While you are spelling out the "obvious" - keep in mind that Great Sword and Hammer skill determines what you can wield, and Slashing and Crushing determine how effective you are at using them. There are two skills associated with every offensive and defensive item in the game -- One skill determines what you can use, the other determines how well you can use it. If you haven't been swinging a hammer for a few levels, you're going to have to start practicing with it to get that Crushing skill up to par. My guess is you've been slashing for the past few levels, and your crushing skill has suffered. Jaggnar Nocturne

![]() Hammong has it. Your Great Sword and Hammer skills will always be maxed as you level up. However, your Crushing and Slashing skills only raise while wielding the appropriate weapon type. Since your attack is lower with the hammer, you'll need to use it for a while to raise the skill to the max. Look for it in the skills menu to get an idea on how far behind it is. I'm guessing you're probably 30 points behind right now compared to your slashing.

Swamp, just a shot in the dark here, but maybe because one cons orange and you have "barely begun to learn to use it" and the other cons blue and you can use it to is full potential? This is just a guess.Gorn

I think the last poster may be right. I've noticed the same sort of thing with equipping armor. Blue armor tends to give me higher AC then orange armor even though the orange armor obviously has more AC. I'm not sure if this is intentional to have us upgrade more frequently or if this is a bug. Most likely same holds true with the weapons even though I havn't checked.
