I'm planning on becoming a Bruiser or A Shadow Knight. Any input on pros and cons to both would be greatly appreciated. Here are my thoughts so far, as far as both classes go. By the way I'm playing a female Dark Elf.

Good points-

Bruiser-

1. As stated by Moorgard Bruiser and Monk are supposed to have higher DPS the my old zerker.

2. Evil Monk does seem appealing.

3. New pink armor might actually look good on a female char? Screen shots appreciated.

Shadow Knight-

1. Horse/Mount -nuff said

2. I'm evil, Shadow Knights with new Dark Armor in coming Adventure Pack would look cool, no?

3. Other than that, not sure about my reasons for Knight, they are mainly based on flavor and concept for character.

Bad Points-

Bruiser-

1. May get nerfed due to the fact they admitted they have higher DPS than Zerker.

2. No swords, kinda of prefer swords.

Shadow Knight-

1. Not sure what role they serve, is it same as Paldin?

2. Heard there was a problem with elves appearing to float above stteds. Is this true with Dark Elf females as well?

I really appreciate any info you guys can give me, thanks in advance.

Shadowknights play the role of MT, and they play it well. We can also be seen as a dps class, or secondary tank. As it is currently, the armor all looks the same. Maybe they will introduce new shadowknight only armor with some of the APs that are released, and hopefully they have new models. Shadowknights have a handfull of broken spells atm that require fixing for us to be at our full potential. It all depends on what you want to do. Do you want to be the MT? if so, shadowknight is the way to go. If you just want to be dps, then go bruiser.

Most of the SK utility spells, like lifetap and feign death, arent as good as i hoped they would be. There really isnt any unique spells for em, just dd here, dot there. All pretty much geared towards damage. If you are thinking the sks in eq2 will be similar to the sks in eqlive, you will be sorely dissapointed.

It all depends on what you want. The floating above horse is a bug, and will be fixed, so i wouldnt use that as a negative against the sk class. Just remember that SK is going to be either MT or ST, dps is a small facet, and you wouldnt be picked up for dps outright. If you want a brusier, you will just be dps, and there is usually 2-3 spots per group for dps, as there is only 1 spot for a tank.

If you are looking to make the next GOD class.. I say go Brigand or Bruiser. Either is going to be the next FOTM IMHO.First things first. Avoidance, DPS, and DPP are the top three things that pertain to soloing in EQ2. All those tings translate well into grouping too. All 3 are what the brigand and bruiser bring to the group and make them soloists to beyond anyone else.Brigands and Bruisers have very good DPS from the front and the brigands with even more from a positional attack. With the correct macro like this::; usea Lucky break ; usea Cheap Shot ; toggleautoattackThen stepping forward through an enemy, you can get off all the positional attacks you want as a brigand even solo. Both brigands and bruisers have a high avoidance factor. More so if you pump AGILITY to the extreme. Monks will have light armor but a few more built in avoidance buffs while brigands get some added agility buffs, one avoidance buff called footwork, and medium armor for better mitigation. Both have ways to save yourself with either FD, evac, or hiding. Makes dying with either hard.At high levels, you can be the main tank for a group with either and make guardians look like punching bags. YES you CAN tank with a brigand better then a guardian in single monster encounters. I'm not joking and I've seen it done. In a group, you'll want to group with druids and shamans for healers instead of clerics. Avoidance works much better with wards and regens then reactive heals. Also, pick equipment, traits, and a race that has a high agility and avoidance skills/traits. Your second most important stat will be strength but it's not nearly as important as agility. If I was going to make a new character all over again knowing what I do now, it would be a bruiser or a brigand if I wanted to play an offensive character. Otherwise I'd make a druid for a healer. They are good all around. Good with any type of tank and in any group instance. Not as good as a cleric with a punching bag, or a shaman with a agility monkey, but good all around.

YES it's considered "stealing" by those that work at SOE so leave my nodes alone biznatch!

I'd say SK isnt for you.

Your top reason is the horse...thats bad...its not all its cracked up to be...I'd rather turn others into frogs.

Armor all looks the same...so you wont be happy there either....

I'd say try something other than a fighter...try a new role...

Thanks for the replies guys. much better the most of the responses I got on the Bruiser page. The horse wasn't the only reason, but I do think it is a good reason. I'd rather save my 2 pp for something else. As for trying something besides a fighter class, I pondered Warlock, but I'm already in the fighter tree again, perhaps another time. I prefer to MT, so I think I'm leaning towards Sk, but we'll see.

Don't let anyone tell you differently shadowknight are a very fun class to play. Sure we've got our bugs/problems to be fixed, but don't most classes?

A shadowknight is all about knowing how to play your character. Someone that knows how to play their SK properly will not have problems being MT for any group killing anything any other fighter could. Now someone that doesn't know how to play their SK is just gonna get walked on, taunting with a sk is very hard, and if you can't do it, you're gonna have a reallly hard time being a MT.

I found that as I progressed, many, many groups would tell me, at the end of a nice grind session, how they never realized SKs could tank so well, and that I was the best tank they have ever had.

It's all about skill, if you wanna enjoy yourself playing a challenging class, it's a rewarding feeling to know that you're one of the few out there that know how to play their class. If you wanna have an option of soloing or grouping SKs go for the gold, I can solo very well (although xp is still crap, its a possibility).

Play what you wanna play though.

Shadowknights are great fun, however lets face it, no matter how good they are you're just going to complain about them in the end.  Otherwise you wouldn't be rerolling from a Berserker.  I duo with a Berserker every night and he has had no problems adapting (and i use that word loosely as very little adapting was required) to changes to the Berserker class.

First thing I can see you complaining about will be the look of our horse, I almost guarentee it.

Amen.

EQL's SK was much, much more versatile and capable of so much more.
